Diner Reviews
  • "My colleagues and I try to select a special restaurant a few times a year, and this was by far one of the best yet we have chosen. The atmosphere, food, and service were all top notch. We would recommend it for business or pleasure of any kind. One other nice discovery was that if we first purchased our wine next door thru the Wine Bank, the corkage fee was waived by the restaurant. We also were celebrating a birthday, and they went out of their way to make our Birthday Boy feel very special, including "Happy Birthday" on the menus, and a complimentary dessert to share by all in our group. "

  • "Very sleek and stylish...waiters in white jackets, etc. The food was delicous- we shared everything. At $52 for a piece of halibut, seemed like the thing to do. It was, however, the best piece of fish that I have ever eaten. "

  • "The food was amazing and the restaurant is beautiful! Can't wait to go back!"

  • "I let the reservations folks know this dinner was for a special occasion, and the Oceanaire staff took that fully to heart. Everyone from the receptionist to our server mentioned our occasion. We felt pampered and very much taken care of from start to finish. Food was outstanding and the gratis baked Alaska a much appreciated touch. For this kind of event I do recommend an early seating, since the place really fills up by 8pm or so."

  • "Oceanaire in San Diego delivers again! We went for our 33rd wedding anniversary and we were greeted with a congratulations, a table we asked for and an extra special touch - a Happy Anniversary greeting printed right on the menu. And it just got better from there. They waived the corkage fee and the food was fantastic. My wife had the Halibut Louis style and I had the scallops. Both were exactly right for us. Then they threw in this mound of on fire ice creme that finished off a perfect evening. Thanks Miguel! You did it again!"

  • "This is my third time at an Oceanaire. Don't recall it being as noisy as this time. Server did not pay attention to the wine after the first glass was poured."

  • "The service we received from the time we entered the restaurant was fantastic. The excellent service alone made the whole visit exceptional and the great food just made the whole evening an enjoyable experience."

  • "Food was very good and LOTS of it... Our waitress Kari was attentive to our needs but not intrusive...very good service!"

  • "When we were seated we were very pleased with the service we were already sold so it was not necessary for the waiter to keep on selling. We ordered our appetizer (oysters rocker feller) we no sooner had finished and about 5 min later our dinner was served. Way too soon. We were still trying to digest the rich oysters. The table across from us ordered crab legs for their appetizer and we were served our apps after theirs we were already done with our dinner and leaving before they even got their dinner."

  • "My family, myself, and my son's girlfriend had dinner reservations this past Wednesday 3/26/14, for a late dinner. Although this was our second time dining at Oceanaire, the service this time was a little off the mark. Trust me, the quality of your food is nothing short of fantastic! However, we had to wait for lengthy periods of time from ordering our main entree to refills on our drinks. Even though there were still quite a few people dining that evening it looked like the staff was shorthanded. Nonetheless, those types of logistics should be seamless to your guests. Lastly, our server, as nice as she was, really was not attentive to our table."

  • "Restaurant never let's us down. Tried 3 different types of oysters all of which were fantastic. Sides were really good also. Got to try the fries (hit of vinegfar) and broccoli with bernaise sauce."

  • "First time here. I have been told about Oceanaire many times by many different people. Such an amazing dining experience. The servers are very knowledgeable about their entire menu. The seafood is fresh daily and the flavor of each dish was amazing. I ordered the Swordfish and had it prepared their "dynamite" style. Very good portion. Very tasty. Not too spicy. the brussels sprouts with bacon was amazing as well. The cocktail drinks could use a little more work but not really a big deal. Wasn't there for the drinks. We weren't able to try the famous "Baked Alaskan" that everyone around us was ordering. Overall the experience was amazing and would recommend Oceanaire to anyone that is a seafood lover."

  • "Seafood dishes (all 8 of us had different seafood dishes) and salads were very enjoyable. Wine list extensive and very pricey. Whie waiting for meal, delicious bread and a tray of veggies were provided...nice touch."

  • "We enjoyed Oceanaire. The food was amazing.. maybe on the pricey side. The ambiance was nice. We can't wait to go back. Our only regret is we didn't try the halibut."

  • "Have to give high marks for everything. We were late for our reservation on 3/15 but were greeting warmly by Keith, Manager who reassured us and gave us a great table. Josh, server, friendly and knowledgable. Made sure the food was coordinated in time to get us to the theater at 8 pm. Clams Casino, shrimp and grits, calamari, crab cakes all excellent. Swordfish and steak cooked to perfection. Will definitely return and recommend to others."

  • "Great spot for a group. We had plenty of space at the table and we did not feel like we were in top of other tables. Acoustics were great. We were able to hear conversation without other noise around us. Great food and fantastic service. Highly recommend this for any occasion."

  • "The hostess week not attentive to when people arrive and let you mingle around waiting. Once we sat down we did not even get approached by the wait staff for 15 minutes. 15 minutes later we get the menu explained which everything said I could decipher on my own the good was quite expensive and that's fine but I expect quality food we ordered halibut swordfish filet shrimp and oysters all which were okay and nothing to write home about. Wine glasses were never removed from the table even tho we didn't drink wine we had empty drinks twice and waited forever about the only thing fast was the check but that's standard right?"

  • "Although this is a chain, it's very high-end. The service is excellent, along with the food. The atmosphere is very 'East Coast' - like a traditional eating establishment. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable. The food is very good. Be careful about the desserts. The normal ones feed at least two people. The 'desserts for two' are more for like a party of four. I will seek these restaurants wherever I travel to."

  • "Not only that we did not get the right drink that we ordered American Chandon vs. Moet Chandon we also had very average dining experience. My fish was way to salty, my wife's one had to much sesame oil. Also we didn't like some of the waiters comments and behaviours. In total the food and experience was definitely not worth the money, San Diego got better spots."

  • "The fish and how it was prepared was fantastic. Dessert is meant for two people! Good wine list at reasonable prices."

  • "Oceanaire is a fine dining restaurant and the service is impeccable. Our server Josh greeted us by name and knew every detail of the menu. Food is always excellent and there is a lively bar area where you can order oysters and drinks."

  • "My wife and I ate at Oceanaire Seafood Room Sunday night. The food was good not great. I had the fried seafood sampler. My wife ordered the crab cakes. Both dishes were good (not great). The place was pretty empty. The food, service and ambiance are good but not spectacular. However, you are paying spectacular prices, so be warned."

  • "We took my daughter for a special night out to celebrate a recent job promotion, and the staff treated us like VIPs. They gave my daughter a couple of "congratulations" surprises, which was just unexpected and amazing! I won't tell you what it was, so I don't ruin the surprise for others. The service was excellent, the ambiance was beautiful, the wine list was extensive and the food was absolutely fantastic. We don't go out much, but when we celebrate life's major milestones, we always go to Oceanaire."

  • "I have had much better seafood experience in the same price range and both service and food were better. Bottom line: Food was average and service was mediocre. The only extraordinary thing about the place is the price."

  • "I took my son here for his 25th birthday. It was fantastic. Everything we ordered was amazing. The service was outstanding. I liked how the seating was set up so each table felt private. It's pricey, but for a guaranteed delicious, quality dining experience, it's worth it. It's a very classy place and I'd not hesitate to dine there again and recommend it to anyone. They even put my son's name on the menu to make it look customized. He received a delicious complimentary dessert too. They have a large menu with large variety of options for anyone. Thank you for such a great experience."

  • "Enjoyed dinner here with my husband on our last evening in San Diego to celebrate my husband's birthday. Food was delicious, best oysters I have ever had. Unfortunately, some meals come a la carte with simple basic mashed potatoes Costing $9. Very slow service, waiting 15-20 minutes just for wine. Waiter somewhat annoying, too talkative and much too much detail in describing every entree on the menu. The $200 bill a bit on the high end considering I only had a fruit Sangria and my a low end glass of Merlot( $15 per bottle at our home package store) Our baked Alaska was gratis as we were celebrating a birthday. Yes, I would still recommend for a special occasion and have money to burn."

  • "A fabulous menu with a wide variety of options - seafood or steak. Not inexpensive - but definitely worth the money in my opinion. The wait staff - and particularly our waitress was incredible - We will start going back more often."

  • "We started with the cold shellfish appetizer and a 1/2doz oysters both delicious. Our server was double sat (12top & 2 top) and the dinner took a nose dive. We were warned our plates were very hot, a sign it was sitting in the window too long. My 20 oz Carribean lobster tail was so over cooked it was a major struggle trying to cut it with my dinner knife. I gave up after 5 bites. My husband ate another couple of bites before he gave up. I let them take the plate back with 2/3 remaining & ordered another dozen oysters. J.R. had little time to check in on us and the manager who did a table touch did but even pause for a response to his question of "How is everything?". My answer would have been "Sawing the lobster made my arm sore."."
