The atmosphere, the service, the drinks and the food were all top notch. We were celebrating my husbands' birthday and we ordered numerous sides to compliment our fish selections. Everything was excellent. It was truly a memorable evening and we plan to return soon."

  • "My wife and I dined here for a special dinner on our last night in San Diego. Overall, we had a very lovely dinner with good food and acceptable service. Our waiter seemed to be more attentive to other tables and often would start walking away while I was finishing an answer to a question he asked us. We felt a bit like he had better things to do than be our waiter. Our food was very good for the most part. Seafood salad was exceptional, as was the Mixed Seafood Grill, with one complaint. The scallop portion of our plate was clearly cut in thirds, even fourths, being mere cross sections of a scallop, while the menu price was higher than we felt appropriate. Again, good restaurant, good atmosphere, just several things holding it back."

  • "I made our reservation on line. I ended my email message with, "Looking for a wonderful fish dinner on our 30th Anniversary." When we arrived, everyone that we encountered wished up a Happy Anniversary! The food was outstanding as was the service. A bit more expensive than I am used to but I guess you get what you pay for. At the end of the meal, the waiter said, "Wait something else is coming!" He brought a large plate with the most beautiful Flaming Baked Alaskan dessert. This was not requested and was done totally by the restaurant. At the top of the personalized menu was a special greeting, "Happy 30th Anniversary!" in one inch letters. This restaurant truly knows how to make their guests feel very special!"

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Oceaniare. The service was exceptional as was the food. I had the Black & Blue Yellowfin and my husband had the bone-in ribeye. We shared the potatoes au gratin and each had a salad. The wine the server recommended for me was perfect. The atmosphere is fancy without being stuffy or oppressive - perfect for San Diego. Can't afford to eat there often, even with $50 in gift cards we spent over $100 but for a special occasion I would definitely go back."

  • "The night before our reservation they called to confirm and asked if we were celebrating anything, we happened to be celebrating our wedding anniversary. So they printed us special menues that said "Happy 11th Anniversary" and offered us a free dessert!! I ordered the Boston Scallops with the blue crab Louie enhancement and it was amazing, my husbands black and blue Ahi Tuna was also delicious!! We tried the crab cake and clam chowder for the appetizers they were really good and the free dessert was a cookies and cream baked Alaska! It was just a really good dinning experience and we plan to be back!"

  • "We had reservations at 7:00 on a Friday night. Restaurant wasn't busy at all but our waiter wanted us In and Out! Not sure if he was on something but we had to ask him twice what his name was (Noah) because he was talking so fast! He gave us 2 minutes to decide what to order and we hadn't even looked at the menu---long story short we were done dining and out of there in 55 minutes! Never been so rushed in a restaurant. I had shrimp scampi, shrimp were overcooked and pasta swimming in lemon juice. Brussel sprouts were so over cooked they weren't even whole and cooked with chunks of fatty bacon so you couldn't tell if you were eating bacon or sprout. Halibut was good but 2 entrees, 2 glasses of wine & sprouts was $200. Won't go back."

Always consistent, food comes out timed perfectly, wait staff always ready to help but consistency knows how to stay back and watch the pace of the patrons, and not interrupt too often. Especially important for conducting business. I had an absolutely delicious piece of grilled salmon (King)."

  • "What a surprise! We picked Oceanairre from Yelp, and saw the amazing menu and pictures. Then the ambiance, classy spoon-booth seats, and professional white-aproned staff, set a picturesque tone! So 1950's meets modern! Josh (Stooch), was the perfectly timed server, who knew the menu like the back of his hand. He made sure our anniversary was not only memorable, but the best waiter we have had in San Diego! 5 stars!"

  • "I really want to like this restaurant we have been there on many occasions. The service is fabulous, one of the best in san diego! Food is also outstanding, but the pricing is just too high. Salmon without any sides $44. Maybe its because I cook and we buy our groceries at whole foods, so i know the price of excellent food? Perhaps the happy hour menu at the bar is more in tune? I will say that the shrimp and grits is fantastic at $15."

  • "Arranged a business dinner for 6. The restaurant was recommended by one of the attendees. Our meal took over three hours, just for service. It was not particularly busy, but our appetizers alone took over an hour. When the entrees arrived, several were significantly overcooked. The desserts were huge. Luckily, we were able to share across all our party. I'd eaten here once before and thought the food was good. This was disappointing enough that is unlikely I'll eat here again."

All arrived at the same time, minus one soup. Ordered a side of potatoes which arrived at the end of the meal, after we were through eating. Our waiter was very pleasant; on the plus side."

  • "If you go ask for Spencer who is the best waiter you can find anywhere. The food was ALL excellent and to much to write about. Only negative comment I have is Keith the Maitre D' was not very friendly. No greeting or smile on arrival (= uncomfortable) and no "thank you" on leaving even when I personally said good-bye and thank you to him. Basically just ignored me. I will go back again for sure but if I get the same poor customer service from Keith then I will not go back and spend that kind of money with an unfriendly Maitre D'."

  • "Went here for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. Quickly seated and the printed menus that acknowledged our anniversary was a nice touch. However, the food and service were both very disaapointing, especially for the steep prices that you pay for going here. My wife's fish was overcooked and the kids meals were left uneaten. Side dish of asparagus also undercooked. Could taste the alcohol on the Baked Alaskan, so again mostly left uneaten, but was provided complementary. We will not be going back here to eat. Disappointing meal on our special night out..."

  • "This isn't a restaurant for a bargain hunter; it is for those who like fresh fish with interesting preparation. A friend and I had a nice dinner that satisfied in many ways. The service was wonderful and quick but we weren't ever rushed. The food was good - you have a choice of fresh fish with a variety of toppings. It would be a good restaurant to impress a date or to go for a special occasion. You won't leave hungry but your plates will be clean and your wallet more than a bit lighter."

  • "This is a nice place. I really loved the decor inside. When we were first seated, we were walked to the wrong table. I let the host know that we requested a booth near the window and he said this was not in our notes, but a young lady had called and asked me the day before. Not sure why she forgot to add that to the notes. The host was able to accommodate this request and we got the seat we wanted. Overall the food was tasty. I think the only recommendation I have is to have a description by the Classic Clams Casino, amoungst other items on the menu. We were expecting normal clams and a messy dish with bacon and junk came out instead. Also, the crab cake says "Jumbo"... And it is a very small portion. The menu needs to be updated."

  • "Made sure to have a great place to dine our last night on San Diego, and this place was extremely popular. Fries came out too cold, 2nd time around it was way too salty. The Filet minon was ordered medium well and it came out medium, 2nd time around came rare medium. The host was told and he grabbed the plate right away in embarassment and told us he would fix it right away, came back charred, but my husband was so hungry he didn't care anymore and just ate it. The next day the general manager called me to ask how my dining experience was and when I told him, he gave me a fake monotone response telling me he would make sure my next dining experience would be exceptional. What a joke! Don't call me if you are really not concerned!"

  • "Oysters at dinner table were nothing to rave about. Maybe they had used all the fresh plump ones at the bar happy hour! Crab cake good. Salads were huge and when inquired from waiter was told we shouldn't split one. One would have fed three! Waiter was insincere, curt, and just going through the motions. Time for him to retire!!!!!!! Disappointing expensive evening."

  • "This wonderful restaurant had some of the best oysters on the Planet. I ate a dozen myself and they were all perfect with varities from Vancouver area and Washington State. The crab cakes were amazing perfectly sauteed and 100% crab without fillers the bread served with herb butter was outstanding warm and with a subtle sweet taste that enhanced the flavor. We also had another house special of stuffed sole with a sauce that was excellent, light and flavorful. A 10 for service even though the restaurant was fully booked. We were so glad we made reservations and the General Manager called the next day to make certain were were satisfied with our dining experience. Definitely on our return to list !"

  • "We had a fantastic dinner at Oceanaire. Our waiter (Ken) was one of the best I've ever had - very knowledgeable about the menu, excellent timing, very good at figuring out what we liked. We started with some speciality cocktails and then the tuna and avocado salad (wonderful; just the right amount of spicy). As a main, I had the swordfish drunken style. The fish was cooked perfectly. My date had the dynamite halibut; also excellent. We had the cauliflower side -- who knew cauliflower could be so tasty?! We debated a few different wines and decided to try one that we'd never even heard of; that also turned out quite well. It was an excellent experience and I'm sad that we're leaving San Diego soon and won't have a chance to come back!"

  • "The food was imaginative and well prepared. Fish worthy of a fish house. The waiters were professionals, not kids working on the side, and so service was appropriately fine. Excellent selection of oysters, and available in ones and twos of different kinds, i.e.mix and match. The bill wasn't cheap but this was the best food we had during our week in San Diego."
