Diner Reviews
  • "The food and service here are always fantastic. The servers know the menu very thoroughly and are able to make solid recommendations. I come here for every special event and I have never been disappointed! The food is also delicious and management is very friendly!"

  • "I was not happy with the filet recommended by the waiter. Actually no one at our table was happy with the beef. It's tough to spend 50+ dollars on a tough tasteless steak. Very disappointed. Some of seafood was OK, but everything was very over priced"

  • "We love to come this restaurant, we have been customers for years and have recommend it for seafood. Best in the Twin Cities."

  • "After we were done with our meal, we realized that you paid for a good service but no for a good food. So, If you like to feel important on restaurants, this is your place. If you like to have a good meal for the price maybe not the right place."

  • "2 of our seats had their back to the walk way and were constantly getting bumped into by staff and patrons. Food was very salty."

  • "I brought my husband here to celebrate his birthday and that detail wasn't missed! They greeted him with birthday wishes, provided a birthday wish on the menu, surprised us with an appetizer bite and an impressive dessert to celebrate! We both left feeling like that was incredible service and they were so intentional to make the meal a special memory!"

  • "We started the night with a small hiccup but once the confusion was discovered we had a wonderful experience. The food was superb. Started with the Crab Cake Taster followed by Parmesan Crusted Alaska Cod and for desert Lemon Panna Cotta. Our server Ricardo was one of the most delightful servers we have ever experienced. We will readily recommend this establishment to anyone who is looking for a great seafood dinner in downtown Minneapolis."

  • "We came here for restaurant week and I was very pleased. My meal was ok, but I believe someone more of a fan of soft shell crab would have loved it, so I think it's more personal than te quality. Our service was great. We called ahead as we had a birthday in our party, they put the birthday boy's name on the menu and made everything extra special. We really enjoyed our time here and will make sure to come back again."

  • "Loved their restaurant week offerings. Particularly liked the Parmesan Crusted Cod and I do hope they'll add this to their regular menu. I'm sure we'll be back."

  • "I had wonderful food there a year ago during the restaurant week, so I decided to go again this year, but I'm very disappointing this time. I ordered steamed mussels, the taste was good, but not fresh and over 50% has sand inside. From the restaurant week menu I ordered cod, it was burnt/ over cooked, I couldn't taste any fish flavor (not sure if this course suppose to be this way or it's just not my taste) Other than the main course and the steamed mussels the crab cake and dessert was good"

  • "The food and the service were impeccable. They couldn't have done enough for us and knocked themselves out to do an amazing job; making sure everything was to our taste and making great recommendations. It was truly a pleasure!"

  • "Went for dinner and had amazing food and service. The ambiance in the dining room was wonderful. Went early for happy hour drinks. We discovered a really good happy hour menu and will go back for that. Was surprised at the great choices and prices."

  • "This was ours and our friends' first time at Oceanaire and we will definitely be back! The service was perfect and friendly, the food was amazing and the atmosphere was not overly stuffy at all! What a great place!"

  • "We stopped in for restaurant week. Our meals were outstanding, the service was fantastic and we sat outside on what ended up being a gorgeous evening. We left thinking we need to come here more often..."

  • "Food was good. Crab cakes were awesome. Not a fan of the desert. Had the tin roof Sunday and the brownie was hard. Ended up only finishing the Ice cream part of the desert."

  • "Have not been to Oceanaire since their move from the Hyatt. Luckily we were seated in a small enclosed room off the bar as the rest of the restaurant was extremely loud. We went for "Restaurant Week". The food was fine but nothing special. Would like to go again and order off the regular menu but unsure if I want to sit in the main dining room as it was so loud."

  • "Food was good, service slow and noise level was very high."
    Dined on 7/23/2014
  • "...or if you do, choose from the regular menu. And also be prepared for a very frenetic atmosphere and a noise level that makes conversation more than difficult. The staff worked hard, and management was certainly on their toes, in an attempt to make this an excellent experience for every diner--so no complaints about service. But our party of four tried most of the different selections on the Restaurant Week special menu and found everything sub par at best. Bland."

  • "server was very attentive and helpful, food was delicious. Try the crab appetizer"

  • "What a great place to celebrate a special birthday. Lots of items with a multitude of price points. Make sure to try the crab cake and the hash browns Ala Oceanaire. Oysters were fantastic and marlin and salmon grilled to perfection. Polenta was creamy, with a hint of heat from chilis. Yum. Decor is a beautiful blue throughout, and the only complaint might be that the tables were packed in pretty close to each other. Overall, a fantastic place; I'd go back in a heartbeat."

  • "This is my 2nd time there and both times my guest and I had to lean into the table and yell to each other in order to converse over the loud music. Plus everyone else screaming at each other to talk over the music, very counter productive. Not what I would expect when paying $180 for 2 people."
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "3 of us ordered salmon and they were all over cooked. Plus one of us found a worm in the pepper on the relish tray. Crab cakes were outstanding."

  • "My wife and I took advantage of their restaurant week special. The server seemed a little disappointed when she saw we were ordering off that menu and tried to encourage adding additional items and a bottle of wine, but her service was pleasant and professional otherwise. Food was excellent, but small portions. I didn't feel $30 for 2 oysters, a small soft shell crab with shredded carrots and jicama and some pieces of watermelon, and a regular size desert, was a particularly great value, although I knew this is an expensive restaurant. The noise level is high, if you enjoy that "vibe", but I would not recommend it if you wanted to converse with the people at your table."

  • "Everyone working knew how to handle the full tables/bars. My date and I ended up waiting 10 minutes before someone greeted us, and brought us to our table. Our waiter, Douglass, is a sharp guy with a great personality. He knows his menu, and he has a very inviting personality. The drinks tasted great, the food was delicious, and wait times on our orders (given that it was very busy) felt pretty reasonable. I don't mind paying a premium for quality food, drinks, and tipping extra for service like Doug's."

  • "Planned proposal after dinner. The food was great and the people were very accomadating. We will be back for sure. Best seafood in downtown Minneapolis for sure."

  • "Wonderful evening, great server Jamie, fabulous food, will attend again thanks to Food Week."

  • "The place has a nice vibe - sort of upscale, but they're not snooty about it and won't turn their nose up at patrons who show up in shorts and a t-shirt. It's more of a business casual place and accommodates everyone from families to business groups to date nighters. It's hard to find good seafood in the Midwest, but if you can't get to PEI or Boston or Maine, just head downtown to Oceanaire. Their clam chowder isn't as good as the stuff on the East coast (sorry, Oceanaire), but their crab cakes are fabulous. They also have fresh, raw oysters to satisfy my seafood cravings."

  • "We arrived early to grab a drink at the bar. When we checked in, they insisted that we be seated at our table instead of allow us to get a drink first. They sat us at a make-shift table by the bar. You could see that they set up a couple tables in the bar area, put table cloths on them and were treating them like standard reservation tables instead of the bar tables that they were. These make-shift tables were right in the main walkway between the actual dining room and the bar so we were constantly getting bumped and in the way. We didn't have a waitress, one of the bartenders would come and take our orders. They were nice, but they were the bartender. Our food was always brought out by a random kitchen worker who didn't say a word to us."

  • "Crab cake appetizer good. Only 2 oysters. Guess I didn't know how skimpy restaurant week portions are. Main entree good. Not a fan of the desserts at all."

  • "We went for resturant week and were not disappointed! The food was delicious and my husband and I enjoyed everything on their menu. I had the crab cake to begin and my husband had oysters. Being from the east coast, I was concerned that the crab cake would not live up to my expectation. Nothing could be further from the truth! My husband has the soft shell crab--fried beautifully! I had the marlin and it was fantastic! It was prepared perfectly and not overwhelmed in sauce. We had exceptional service from Doug. He made the experience extra special with his friendly service and just the right level of presence. He and Oceanaire understand that resturant week is an opportunity to cultivate new customers and we will go back."

  • "The parmesan encrusted cod was the best choice for the evening. Salmon was good as well. Had the corn side dish but next time would go with one of the potato choices. Definitely split the side dish between two or three folks."

  • "Special evening for my wife’s birthday with a “Happy Birthday” greeting at the desk, birthday wish with her name printed at the top of our menus. Food and service both 5 stars. Our server keeping track of the time for us to get us to the Guthrie Theater on time, we always have an excellent experience there."

  • "We had such a great experience our first time dining at the Oceanaire a few years ago. Wanted to try the new location. Was surprised at how "energetic" it is compared now. Tables are almost on top of each other. Even when we were being taken to out table it was like a game of dodge ball with wait staff trying to get to tables in narrow walkways. We did have a wonderful lobster special. Not so sure we would go back for the regular menu and price compared to the value of what we would like to be a more romatic evening out. We must be getting old. LOL!"

  • "We enjoyed an exceptional dining experience @ Oceanaire this past Friday evening. The service was professional but friendly, helpful with menu choices and wine selection. Their crab cake is the gold standard for all crab cakes. The shrimp cocktail is huge shrimp poached in a seasoned broth, chilled, making the shrimp exceptionally good. The lump crab cocktail was generous & contained huge lump crab pieces in a lettuce cup. The oysters were the plumpest oysters I have ever been served. They were cold on a bed of ice and each contained their natural liquor still in the shell. The 2 pound lobster was excellent and the halibut, pan sauteed was perfect. The fresh fruit, berry and peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream topped the meal."

  • "Four of us went for lobster night. It was crazy in there. I felt they did a pretty good job of dealing with the crowd. The food was very good. My biggest gripe is $30 a bottle on corkage. Sorry, that's just too much. Fine if you want to charge that total when we have 2 bottles, but not $60 bucks."

  • "We both had lobster. It was perfectly prepared. Excellent taste! We had a great waiter, Charles. He was very attentive and did a wonderful job removing our lobsters from their shell. We will be back!"
