What a special place! Andrai (sp?) was our waiter and was outstanding. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. We all decided we'd go there again. The seafood is wonderfully prepared and presented. The service was perfect for a dining experience given that the server was extremely attentive to every detail including the fact that we wanted to dine and not eat and run. We will definitely return soon for another memorable evening. "

We had been sitting at our table for about 40 minutes before we got our apps. However, it was well worth the wait, the food is really something if you're into sea food.. I'll go here again for sure."

We were seated on time, and our waiter was great and very knowledgeable about the menu. He gave prompt but not overbearing service. Our meals were prepared to perfection, and would rate as the best seafood of any place we have visited. The ambience is elegant, and the noise level moderate. This is a great place for that special night out, business luncheon or dinner, or pre-event dining experience. In the heart of downtown Indy just off the circle. We will be back!"

  • "Every time my girl friend and I go to Oceanaire we ask ourselves why we waited so long to return. Absolutely the No.1 place for Seafood anywhere, in this case...Indy. This time I had the 16 oz bone in Halibut Steak...never in my life have I had a Halibut Steak so thick, tender, juicy and flavorful. My girl friend had the 10 oz Lobster tail...she loves Lobster and was elated. We both shared the huge Seafood platter on ice...for 2...need I say more? We love this place, and the servers and wait staff work as a true Team...amazing."

  • "My 92 years old father specifically chose the Oceanaire Restaurant because he loves crab cakes. Not just any crab cakes. He is a crab cake snob. Only the meatiest, tastiest, reminds me of my youth growing up by the Chesapeake Bay, crab cakes will do. Dad has pooh poohed many other crab cakes all over Indianapolis. But he finally found bliss at the Oceanaire. And so when I inquired as to which restaurant he chose to celebrate his 92nd birthday, it was crab cake heaven at the Oceanaire. And Aaron was the waiter of choice, also a gem."

  • "I brought my partner to The Oceanaire, to celebrate his birthday. The staff was very friendly, and the food was worthy of it's price. The chef even sent out an amuse-bouche for each of us, of seared scallop on a bed of fettuccine with a light broth. I was definitely impressed. I only gave the service four stars, due to the length of time between the waiter making his rounds; it was Monday night, and the restaurant wasn't extremely busy. Our waiter was very good, nonetheless. All-in-all, it was an incredible meal and a great dining experience."

  • "I typically avoid chain restaraunts. However, Oceanaire is one exception I make as they have never disappointed on the numerous times I have dined there. Whether just sitting at the oyster bar for a quick bite and drink or there for the full deal I've always left very satisfied. On multiple occasions have had business dinners and large group dining there and they were very accommodating and prepared. The food is always well prepared and consistently very good. Service has always been outstanding and the restaraunt itself has a great atmosphere."

  • "My husband and I have celebrated many happy occasions at the Oceanaire in the past. My husband passed away 2 weeks ago and I brought our family to the Oceanaire to toast his memory and dine at his favorite restaurant after his funeral services. For the first time EVER. the service was appalling. Our waiter, Greg, took over 10 minutes to come to the table and then offered us "diet cokes or some other soft drink" forcing us to ask for a cocktail. Then he took over 10 more minutes to come back to "confirm the order"... so it was over 40m before we had our initial cocktail. The poor service and inattention continued throughout the meal. We were very well-cared for by our "busboy" who refreshed our water and cleared the table effortlessly."

The appearance is warm and inviting. the staff, courteous and knowledgeable of all things On the menu and wine list. the oysters were better than digging them myself. Our waiter, peter, was very attentive but never hovered. The fish selections we had were outstanding. I can't wait to come back!"

  • "My wife and I wanted to try Oceanaire due to the rave reviews. We went into this meal knowing what to expect as far as quality of the food and the price, but our expectations were not met as far as the flavor of the food went. We thought it was mediocre at best but I guess it could be that we aren't the"classy" type of people. The food just seemed bland to us (not that we like it over-seasoned either). Our waiter was great and the rest of the oceanaire crew was helpful too. He made many suggestions and explained things for us "simple folk". haha. I would say its worth a try but I would rather spend my hard-earned money at Red Lobster for seafood."

  • "Went for a celebration with my girlfriend and everything start to finish was fantastic. Being a Friday during lent we were not going to eat meat and the waiter/chef were very accommodating to change the scallops dish to something without meat. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great! After the meal because it was a celebration the restaurant brought us a free baked Alaska which we were already planning on paying for. Also something neat is if you reserve ahead of time they can custom print a little message on the top of the menu. This added a nice touch and gave me a few bonus points with the lady. You won't be disappointed this place was fantastic!"

  • "We've been to Oceanaire many times and believe it is the best seafood restaurant in Indianapolis by far. But last night they outdid themselves. We had an Alaskan halibut T-bone steak prepared with Oceanaire's "Black and Bleu" preparation (blackened with Cajun spices, then served with a generous portion of blue cheese butter). This was truly an outstanding seafood dish. In our experience, Oceanaire serves up a nice mix of "old stand bys" and new dishes, so that each visit is a new experience. The wait staff is much more knowledgeable about the fish than in most places and the service is very good to outstanding. We like the ambiance as well. It is pricey ($46 for that halibut T-bone) but its worth it in our opinion."

  • "My wife and I visited this restaurant with high expectations. Given its high prices, we expected exceptional food and service. While the food was good, it certainly wasn't exceptional. Our escargot was bland. It needed way more garlic. And my shrimp reminded me of what we might get at Red Lobster. Although the restaurant was nearly empty, our service was quite slow. Also the mark up on the wines was unusually high. I would not go there again."

  • "Visited the Indianapolis Oceanaire for a birthday celebration, and they went all out to make it special----happy-birthday wishes by the hostess when we walked in the door, personalized "Happy Birthday" menus, a birthday card waiting at our table signed by the entire staff, an awesome balcony table overlooking the main floor dining room, and the biggest baked Alaska we'd ever seen as a complementary birthday dessert. The place was packed and yet our service was attentive and very personal. Incredible food----jumbo lump crab cake appetizer, seafood chopped salad, stuffed Idaho golden trout and seared Maine scallops, grilled apparatus-----all fabulous! Will definitely be returning!!"

The meat in the crab cocktail was perfect, firm and flavorful. My wife had the trout and I had the salmon. Delicious! The evening was capped off with a birthday baked Alaska. Wonderful!"

  • "We have dined at Oceanaire many times and have always had a great experience. I made the reservation over two weeks in advance. This time they crammed 10 of us into a table that should have seated 8 people maximum. I discussed this with the hostess but was told that had no other tables were available. Fortunately our waiter recognized how uncomfortable this was going to be and added a spacer to the table which did helped. Still, the cramped space and the fact that we were in a small closed-in area upstairs really made this a disappointing evening. As a matter of fact, it even impacted what we ordered. We always enjoy one of the seafood towers but because the table was so narrow and space on the table very limited, we opted to forgo this."
