Diner Reviews
  • "West coast oyster appetizers were fresh, delicious and well shucked - especially the kumomotos. Complementary veggies/pickles were sparse, though the waiter happily supplied pickled peppers when I remarked that I had been looking forward to having them. The 2 lb Lobsters were so-so. One had a shell full of dark spots, suggesting that the lobster was old. The waiter happily (insistently) replaced it, bringing a complementary shrimp cocktail as compensation. Even after replacement, the lobsters didn't rise above "meh," but Denver is a long way from Maine. Even with professional, friendly service it was hard to escape feeling that the Denver Oceanaire doesn't supply the same seafood quality/freshness as the east coast outlets."

  • "We had the Friday Lobster special. The service was great, but the lobster and the asparagus side were both a bit tough. Our servers were great and so was the wine and key line pie."

  • "My husband and I went to Oceanaire for "date night" and just had an amazing experience. From the staff being super friendly, to opening the door for you and being very hospitable, I could not have asked for more. Our waiter was Jack, and he was very knowledgable about the menu and the food. He also was very attentive to us and never let us feel that we were less important than his other tables. We were treated "first-class" the entire time. I had the halibut and my husband had the lobster.......It was wonderful! The food was top notch and you get exactly what you pay for: excellence! I will definitely be returning!"

  • "The food and service is fantastic! It's a larger restaurant...I wouldn't call it charming, but it's in a great location near the Theater. The server was well versed in her wine suggestions and descriptions of various fishes available. The fois gras scallops were unbelievable... and finish with the cheesecake. It may be the best I've ever had, but be prepared to share: ) Enjoy!"

  • "We won't be going back to Oceanaire Seafood Room. While we love the experience, and the food is still good, it's just ridiculously expensive. My wife and I each had 2 appetizers (one of which was a $8 wedge salad) and nothing but water to drink and the bill was $90. Just not worth it. The crab cakes, which continue to be very good, are like mini-me versions of what they used to be. They are tiny, but yet are $18 each. See ya......"

  • "We went to celebrate my husbands birthday. We enjoyed the atmosphere. The "palette cleanser" and hot towel were nice touches. The escargot was awesome, and the potatoes au gratin were out of this world, so rich and creamy! The service is top notch- but one suggestion: get larger water glasses! The service is so on top of filling these tiny glasses that they are at the table so often it feels intrusive. Larger glasses would be more efficient and make for a less inturruptive dinner. Small complaint. I know. But otherwise it was wonderful and we will return soon."

  • "Don't miss this spot for the best seafood and service. Try the lump crab cakes and augratin potatoes. The service is excellent! The location is in the middle of everything."

  • "We enjoyed an outstanding dinner. We had a group of 9 and a group of 5. The wait service was outstanding. We ordered a variety of entrees: swordfish, salmon, stuffed shrimp, and their steak and cake prefixed. Noone was disappointed. The side are large enough to share. The augratin potatoes were delishous."

  • "The "crew" running this place is over the top. They are the most food knowledgible wait staff I have encountered anywhere. They are quick and efficient and genuinely interested in you and your dining experience. The food is excellent. Wonderful quality, properly prepared and served elouquently. Mark it on your schedule of things to do and places to go. You'll return often."

  • "We visit Oceanaire to celebrate special occasions and always have an excellent experience. The serving staff is attentive, personable, and very competent; the menu has a variety of fresh seafood offerings as well as steaks, along with a good selection of oysters, appetizers, salads, side dishes, and desserts. It is the only place we know of this side of Baltimore that does Maryland crab cakes correctly. We've never had any dish there that wasn't perfectly prepared and delicious. It is expensive but worth it."

  • "To be honest, my husband and I were looking for a seafood buffet so when we got to your restaurant we were kinda thrown off - but pleasantly surprised! I felt we were not dressed for the restaurants atmosphere but we were not treated any differently than all the rest of the customers. Our experience was wonderful and the food was great! Definitely will be returning."

  • "The service and ambience were outstanding, the food however was not very good. The stuffed shrimp were tiny and the stuffing mostly bread and not tasty. We had to pay an extra $4 to change the side. The hash browns were delicious but the extra charge was in bad taste. Everything was overpriced for what you received. The cod was to come with cauliflower and macadamia nuts and you needed a magnifying glass to find them. The cod was extremely bland. The fruit crisp was enough to feed many but overly sweet and gooey. This was a very costly meal and the worst on an 8 week trip across the country!"

  • "While the food and service are very good, but value is hard to justify. Entrees seem overpriced, even for the quality. "

  • "Our waiter killed the occasion. He upsold absolutely everything. When we complained that a couple of fish dishes were overcooked, he said flippantly, "I'm sorry to hear that". Then he walked away. When one person in our party accidentally spilled her drink he suggested she should stop drinking. The food was otherwise okay. The service was stunningly unprofessional."

  • "Short version: High end seafood with excellent service. Longer version: This is the 3rd time at this particular Oceanaire, I have been to several others around the country. For a Sunday night, I was expecting it to be 4 stars, but this time the service and food were top rate. I had the Halibut, and my companion the Shrimp and Grits appetizer as the entrée. We both shared the crab cakes for an appetizer. Cocktails, wine - everything was excellent. Service was top rate as well, our waitress really did a great job - this time they did up their game. Nice place to take clients. "

  • "This is a great restaurant-wonderful food, atmosphere and wait staff. You pay for it, as it is very pricey and that doesn't even count if you want any accompaniments like vegetables. I've been here before, but this time was different. If a fine restaurant thinks customers will pay (and return to pay) this kind of money for dinner the entire experience has to be perfect. In my case, it almost was, except for the crabby hostess. At first I thought it was just me, as I asked for a different table than where she first sat us at (right by the door). As I watched as other diners arrived, it was the same. Even if you are having a bad day, as hostess or host you need to pretend to be happy as new guests arrive."

  • "Traditional birthday dinner spot. 4 years and counting. Everything here is wonderful. The food, service and ambiance is awesome. We usually go the day after Memorial Day and the restaurant usually has a lighter crowd so the setting is more intimate. Jason was our very attentive server. "

  • "We went for my wife's birthday and from the moment we arrived they made her feel very special. Greeting us with a Happy Birthday & a keepsake menu. The Calamari was great as was the Escargot w/ puff pastry, our main courses were equally delicious. Their menu offers something for everyone. Our waitress, Irish was very knowledgeable and really nice. They surprised us with a complimentary Baked Alaska (which was huge!) for dessert, we felt bad not eating it all but we were pretty stuffed from dinner, but we made a decent effort! Valet parking was only $8 (even w $5 tip was still less than other places were charging) and well worth it, the valet staff was also very polite from the moment we arrived, which set the tone for the entire evening. "

  • "The gentleman who sat us causally asked if we were going to the theater - which we were. We chatted about some shows that have been in town. When our waiter, Scott, introduced himself he mentioned that he was aware of our plans and he will keep an eye on his watch for us...nice touch! Scott was very informative and knowledgable about their menu and seasonal specials. Based on his recommendations, we started with the salmon tartar (so good and a huge portion), I had sea scallops with English pea risotto, my hubby had the Arctic char filleted tableside with pork belly. We enjoyed everything! Another perk: they can box your leftovers and refrigerate them while you're at a show - just stop back by on your way home to pick them up! Clever!"

  • "Oceanaire is where our family holds many birthday and anniversary celebrations. The fish is always fresh, the preparations imaginative, and they have plenty of other options for non-fish lovers. The thing that really sets this restaurant apart is the excellent staff. They hire well and train well and you always receive great service here. The icing on the cake after my husband's recent birthday celebration there was that they found my error in adding the restaurant charge and the tip and corrected it! I love this place."

  • "Have been here several times. Always look forward to a great meal & great experience. Perfect after a show at The Buell Theater. We live 122 miles away, but when we come to Denver, we always try to fit a dine at Oceanaire. "

  • "Good food but incredibly overpriced. $41 for a 7 oz piece of cobra with nothing else on the plate. Tries to be very pretentious. Will not return. "

  • "This place is great---we sometimes forget to visit it because there are so many great foodie restaurants in Denver--with new ones coming all the time. We loved the seafood--everything was amazing and cooked perfectly. The oysters were amazing and they had a nice variety, the shrimp ceviche and chips were great and we loved the lobster mashed potatoes. Wow. The scallops were cooked perfectly which is not easy to do. Loved it and would highly recommend if you love seafood. "

  • "For a leisurely lunch or dinner when attending the Denver Performing Arts Center, this was wonderful. We chose the restaurant because of its location and convenient parking and we knew that Mother's Day Sunday was going to be extremely busy. They had a special Brunch menu in addition to many of their regular items. We had fresh oysters from their large collection of varieties, a lump crab eggs Benedict that my husband thought had some of the best hollandaise sauce he had had, and a side of hash browns a la Oceanaire that were wonderful. The staff was very busy with this Mother's Day/theater bound crowd, and the food service was pleasant, everyone smiled and there was endless offers of service. "
