One of the best dining experiences I have had in Tampa. I usually ask for Jonathan Holmes as a waiter as he is superb and always makes the night for us ... he remembers the small but important things that are special to us and Jon is over the top good. Our waiter, Dave, was also excellent and very attentive ... just perfect. Our server, Richie, was outstanding... as was the food. Three of us had steaks and one had the chilean sea bass. All of us were extremely pleased. One couple split a salad, which was then the perfect size. The four of us ordered three sides, which was also just the right amount. The au gratin potatoes were our favorite. We ordered two desserts to split, the carrot cake and peanut butter/choc pie....both were terrific! The strip steak was not as large as Sand Pearl, Ruth Chris or Capital Grills Steak and my husband had the two lobster tails and they were very small for $48. We shared the Shellfish Cobb Salad and that was a nice size serving and delicious I might add. Would definitely get that again if I go. Food, Atmosphere and service were excellent. Liked menu selection, not many dishes but nice variety, friend is vegetarian, was pleased, too. Liked approach to balance meal with meat/fish, veggies and starch.
Nice "build your own steak dinner" selection. Tried filet mignon, w/ jalapeno gratin, bearnaise sauce & asparagus - cooked exactly how I wanted. Friend had sea bass, nice combination with rice. Portions a little large for my taste, Like appetizer & desert, too. Shared the cheese fondue, great taste. Good wine selection by the glass! Had Bubbly Berries cocktail as aperitif. When presented, server pours it over dry ice! Good taste, too. Excellent service, very knowledgeable. I come here a lot with my girlfriends and it has been an amazing experience every time. I recently celebrated my graduation here and our waiter was so sweet, he took the dessert off our bill as a congratulations. Totally unexpected and very kind of him to remember. The food is definitely overpriced but I believe that is because they pay their servers well and buy expensive fresh food. The inside of Ocean Prime will remind you a lot of a modern version of the Titanic's dining room. Absolutely beautiful. My server was knowledgeable and explained in great detail EVERYTHING on the menu. Always a great meal with detailed service. Great for dinner or just apps in the bar. My one complaint is that is usually very warm but the food and service make up for it. It's not quiet, but the food is excellent. We sat on the terrace at our choice, a great decision, and by the time we left at 9 pm the place was full. The ambiance was wonderful, but, certainly not worth the inflated pricing. Don't expect your meal to come with the "usual" If you want salad...it's extra, vegetables...also extra, potatotes or rice... you guessed it... extra starting at a whopping $10 a pop and up. So start with the lowest priced steak $38 ... add a salad +10, a potatoe +10, and a vegatable +10 and that already expensive $38 steak racks up to a mere $68 per person. Especially the Jalapeno Lobster Mashed Potatoes! I make it a point to avoid many potatoes because the taste just doesn't satisfy the amount of space it fills in my stomach. As for these, I couldn't resist having 3 servings from the huge dish it was served in. We still only finished half of the potatoes!
The service was excellent up until the very end. I think the waiter could have visited out table a little more often. The first half of dinner was perfect, but I think the last hour probably should have only taken us about 20-30 minutes. The waiter was exceptionally nice and very knowledgeable!
Unfortunately, we left and forgot all of our leftovers. My one and only complaint (hard to find one) was this last lunch it was a bit noisy being in the back room to hold a true business lunch where we needed to hear each other. Food and service were excellent as always. Have had business lunch before in front room and for some reason it was easier to hear. Out of town parent of USF graduate---local family hadn't heard of restaurant and now promise to be regulars. Wonderful experience. Menu was not overwhelming but everything sounded so good we took a long time deciding and probably ordered too much food. Everything we ordered was excellent. Waiter named Guy was excellent, friendly, informative but not too invasive. The place is expensive but totally worth it. We'll be back. It was a Saturday night and we had an early dinner and we were headed to the bar for a drink afterwards but it was packed and jammming, so we had to go elsewhere.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMit was great.
