Ocean Prime - IndianapolisBirthday TreatWe were completely satisfied at Ocean Prime, Indianapolis. The menu was extensive and the servers pleasant and knowledgeable. The kitchen was backed up a bit but that was not a problem for we had no further commitment.
A frequent complaint of ours, wherever we seem to dine, is the cavalier dress code of the patrons. I know there is little the restaurants can do about this, but OP is a nice table cloth restaurant with ambiance. Patrons in tee shirts just don't fit the image. Then we were seated out on the covered terrace. It's really nice, large fire place, bar, a few tv's and a good view. Mom ordered the "prime feature" (2 bacon wrapped twin filets) and twice baked potato (it's huge...2-3 ppl could easily share). I opted for the quiche (there) and crabcakes, truffle mac & chz (to go). The quiche was delicious and savory, not too pretty to look at but the taste is fabulous. I could've had another slice. I tasted the crabcakes prior to leaving....good but a little loose and very light brown for me. Upon reheating in oven later that evening they were perfect. This time my wife got a NY Strip and I got the salmon. Her steak was again excellent. The salmon was cooked well but had little taste. Was that sugar on top? I get salmon out alot, but it is normally grilled. Maybe optional choices on how it is cooked. I won't get the salmon again. It did not disappoint; my friends were huge fans of the food, alcohol, and wine selections. I started off with a Moscow Mule in a copper mug (fun drink). Tuna tartare for app, tuna with pate for main course, and carrot cake for dessert - all excellent. Friends loved the wine selections. It was so good that we went back the very next day to eat again! Everything we have tried has been incredible. The surf and turf appetizer is to die for, and the bacon wrapped filets are fantastic. The crab cakes, fondue, and pork porterhouse are also great...as is dessert. The peant butter pie is yummy.
My fiance and I eat at fine dining places in Indy all the time, and Ocean Prime is by far the best in Indy. There menu is great, the service is excellent, and the decor is very modern. Tables were just slightly small and crowded together such that the servers had to wind their way around several other tables to get to us. This did not affect the quality of the service, courtesy of the servers, or detract from the overall experience, but it was mildly noticeable. We both had fish, the salmon and the red snapper. They were both excellent and represent the best seafood in Indianapolis. For me, the star was the black truffle mac and cheese. Far and away the best mac and cheese ever. From the complimentary glass of champagne soon after we were seated to the complimentary dessert at the end of an amazing meal, we were treated to top-notch service by John and all the other staff members who came by to wish us a happy anniversary or see if we had what we needed. The seared tuna and the scallops were our entree choices; both were superb. The chocolate peanut butter mousse dessert was decadently rich but worth the extra calories. It was our first visit but will definitely not be our last. The service is top notch and then there is the food! Our brunch meal was the best we have ever had. We have also had dinner there and both times did NOT disappoint. They called us by our names and noted the last time we were there.
