A word from OCabanon
In the south of France, more precisely in Provence, a cabanon represents an authentic cuisine, usually located in a house's garden, where all the mothers and grandmothers used to cook regional specialties for the entire family and anybody lucky enough to be around at the right place at the right time.

The door was always open. Since we had the chance to witness it in our childhood, we wanted to recreate this environment with the same welcoming spirit. So we decided to name our place "OCabanon".

“Cave à Manger”, literally means “Cellar to Eat”. In fact, the idea is to bring a nice pairing between wine and food in a cosy place.

We want our “Cave à Manger” to be a friendly destination, where anybody can discover love stories between wine and food, share and gossip around a good bottle.

I am so excited to have a real neighborhood bistro close to my office / Penn Station. Love the atmosphere, the wait staff is super-pleasant, wine list is awesome. Have been three times since September, and they are still struggling getting the food out hot and in a reasonable time, especially if there is a large group in the place. On the plus side, they don't rush you out. If they can improve the kitchen turnaround, I will be a regular.

The atmosphere is great - met with a friend whom I did not see for a long time, so we were looking for something cozy, not crowded noisy place as most of the bars in the are would be It was a perfect spot for the two of us to sit and catch up We ordered tapas, - and it was OK but super fatty-oily. Maybe other food was better - this is the only thing we tried the wine was good, so no complaints here the main advantage - you would not expect to find such a nice, simple, European-looking place right in the vicinity of Penn Station. Will gladly go there again while meeting with friends, when atmosphere is more important than the food

Happy to find a place near Penn Station with a different menu. We had a lovely glass of wine and the tapas plate, which was very nice, and then ordered the beet salad, risotto, and kebab. Service was leisurely -- fortunately we had a lot of time before our train. A salad and the risotto arrived, but it was nicoise instead of beet, and they took both plates away. A beet salad eventually arrived (one third the size of the nicoise -- odd, not really enough to share), along with the same dish of risotto, now barely lukewarm, followed by the kebab. All were tasty, but the risotto would have been even better hot!

We were 6 people who didn't know each other well, looking for a nice place to have dinner and a good chat. After I placed the reservation, the owner called to inquire if there was any special occasion. That was a first for me. Our table was in the back set apart from the crowd- just perfect. The service was attentive and helpful but not intrusive. We each ordered an app and shared a beautiful seafood paella. Everything was delicious. I will definitely return.

The restaurant called me 5 days before our reservation to find out if there was any special food they could prepare for our group of 6. How often does that happen? The menu is made up of small plate offerings that are large enough to share. We ended up getting a bowl of their excellent lobster bisque for each of us then 5 other items to share. We had food left and were well satisfied. Wine list is exclusively European with emphasis on France. Had a nice rose to start, then several bottles of a good Chablis. Would recommend for a group that likes to have a conversation over an unhurried dinner.

My husband and I were attending a concert at Madison Square Garden and wanted a place to have dinner prior to the concert in the neighborhood. This was one place I found that was other than a sports bar, so we thought we'd try it. It said it was French and included many small plates and a great wine list, and all that was true. The woman manager made us feel welcome right away and gave us tips on what to order as well as the wine. She checked in on us frequently, but never to much. The food was very good. We especially liked the cheeses and charcuteries plate. Will definitely visit again if in the neighborhood. Great value as well. Save room for the creme brulee!

I had high expectations for this place based on reviews. Service was very kind and and professional. I did not find ambience special, though it was pretty early in the afternoon. Food was ok, but not outstanding: while all meals had some outstanding feature or taste, all had some bothersome aspects as well: gazpacho had satisfying avocado pieces though tasted like tomato paste, risotto had great mushroom and truffle touch, though was layered on unchewable lettuce ball, etc.

Wonderful place in our Chelsea neighborhood. Not too busy yet. Not a place for a huge meal, but the appropriate portions are high quality, well seasoned and tasty. We're in love with it, and despite not being drinkers and able to sample their seemingly wonderful wine list, we will be back, again and again. The owners are passionate about the restaurant and the staff has been wonderful to us.

Thanks to OpenTable which suggested this restaurant around the corner from where we were, we landed in this lovely place. French food tapas style. Great idea. The presentation of old standards is creative, pretty and appetizing. The food is fresh, tasty, elegant. Loved the risotto with mushrooms, the salade landaise with fresh fois gras. The wine selection is great and affordable. We were introduced to delicious wines we didn't know. The owners are very friendly and the welcome we received combined with the delicious food made us come back the following week and we were even more delighted.

My fiancee and I ate here on Saturday evening, as we wanted to grab an early, quick bite before going to a birthday party. What a lovely place! The decor is quite cool, the service was excellent, and food (wine bar, small plates style) was delicious. We had the oysters, cauliflower salad, meat plate and wings. I was very tempted by all of the desserts but we were running late. And, my fiancee and I have very different taste in wines and we both loved our choices - a deep, sweet reisling and an aromatic sauvingnon blanc. Our server was wonderful - interesting, had great insight on the dishes and on the decor! I'll be there again.
