A word from OCabanon
In the south of France, more precisely in Provence, a cabanon represents an authentic cuisine, usually located in a house's garden, where all the mothers and grandmothers used to cook regional specialties for the entire family and anybody lucky enough to be around at the right place at the right time.

The door was always open. Since we had the chance to witness it in our childhood, we wanted to recreate this environment with the same welcoming spirit. So we decided to name our place "OCabanon".

“Cave à Manger”, literally means “Cellar to Eat”. In fact, the idea is to bring a nice pairing between wine and food in a cosy place.

We want our “Cave à Manger” to be a friendly destination, where anybody can discover love stories between wine and food, share and gossip around a good bottle.

Lovely small tables in front open to the street but inside the restaurant. Wine expensive for lunch menu. More seating in back of restaurant. Waitstaff were all French and very accommodating."

  • "My fiancee and I ate here on Saturday evening, as we wanted to grab an early, quick bite before going to a birthday party. What a lovely place! The decor is quite cool, the service was excellent, and food (wine bar, small plates style) was delicious. We had the oysters, cauliflower salad, meat plate and wings. I was very tempted by all of the desserts but we were running late. And, my fiancee and I have very different taste in wines and we both loved our choices - a deep, sweet reisling and an aromatic sauvingnon blanc. Our server was wonderful - interesting, had great insight on the dishes and on the decor! I'll be there again."

  • "I did some research for wine bars around Penn Station as I was meeting a friend. I wanted something interesting, especially where the wine was concerned. I'm so glad I picked OCabanon. I booked my 6pm reservation on OpenTable and arrived early. I wanted to make sure I got a nice quiet spot. The room at the back of the restaurant is great. All the wooden bookcases are filled with wine bottles standing up. The cheese plate I shared was great and while we didn't actually have a dinner I would return for sure. I highly recommend this new restaurant for the wine, ambiance, and food. All of the staff we met were really nice and went out of their way to make our time really pleasurable, "

  • "A contemporary, charming brasserie which features charcuterie, and other french country treasures. Even vegetarians can find delightful plates full of flavor. I had a delightful mushroom/truffle risotto, my friend had the Boeuf Bourgagnion, and we shared a perfect Creme Brulee. We will return."

  • "Decor is very cheap given how pricey the menu is - doesn't quite fit. The location seems to want to ride off the Chelsea location but is sort of stuck in no-man's land under penn station. However, the food was better than expected - had the pate in the crust, and a chautecurie & cheese plate, and the service was very good and friendly - esp for a French restaurant. At the bill they bring out candy which is a cute touch. We had a coupon so it was fine, but I don't think it's worth the full price given the poor decor and high prices."

  • "Perfect for a relaxed date night or a girls' dinner. I came here with my boyfriend with a Gilt City deal and loved it! Food: definitely try the foie gras bagel, it was delicious. So was the teriyaki cheese skewers. All the cheese and charcuterie boards were good too, a nice way to start the meal Service: very friendly and warm, but the place is a little understaffed, so don't expect fast service all night (which wasn't a huge deal for us) Ambience: sit in the super cute little wine room in the back, it's not too loud or dark"

However, the staff was so gracious and kind to change my reservation down to 11 people. Our waitress is excellent. She is so patient, accommodating and knowledgeable. Wine and food is great! The chef is so personable and made sure that we're having a good time. I will definitely go back again."

The food itself was impeccable....get the beef cheese skewers - out of this world! I am telling you every bite is a party in your mouth. The service was great as well.   • "I had dinner at Ocabanon a few times and always had a great experience there. The concept of sharing delicious food with a glass of wine is not new but the way Ocabanon does it is unique. The wine list is eclectic and diverse, the staff is always remarkably helpful in recommending wine according to your taste and your meal. The owners are very welcoming and passionate with food and wine. And the food is really amazing: everything is freshly made with ingredients from the best suppliers in NY - special mention to their cured meats who take you to Italy or France and to the beef-cheese skewers which are to die for. A must go for a date, a group or even a party/event as they have an amazing space upstairs that can be booked for parties."
