I absolutely love the look and feel of this place. It has been nicely updated from the former establishment, with a lively crowd and an inviting bar. We came as a group of six women, which was the best way to explore the good-sized menu. Our waiter was very accommodating in recommending a modestly priced red wine with the qualities we specified, and which we enjoyed very much. Though our server expressed skepticism at the amount of food we ordered, the fair portions were perfect for sharing. Our varied choices gave a nice overview, and everything was good to very good, but not amazing: an antipasto board, several individual mozzarellas, beet salad, duck pappardelle. Beautiful pizzas were constantly being ferried from oven to tables and our Funghi Porcini was crisp and tasty. Ricotta di bufala cream and almond biscotti parfait were sweetly delicious surprises, given that Italian desserts usually disappoint. I'd go back anytime for a seat at the bar with wine and most anything on the menu.

Everything we ordered on 2 different occasions was disappointing. Bloody Mary was terrible, salad was ridiculously minuscule and lacking of flavor. Pizza was odd and fair tasting at best.

The food was top notch, yes including the mozzarella. The pizza was some of the best I have had, including pizza in Italy. The wine list was extensive with solid options throughout the price range. I think the place is just great for pizza and late night snacks with wine.

Went here for brunch with a friend. HUGE, beautiful space but it was a little stark and empty. The staff was friendly but forcing an Italian greeting seemed like bad acting and not authentic (but I appreciate the effort). Service was a bit slow despite the place being relatively empty. Food was good - not amazing, but again its just brunch so its hard to tell. I would try it again for drinks/dinner to see this place in a more lively state - feel like it has potential to be cool.

My friend insisted on taking me to Obica for my birthday. Great recommendation! All my guests enjoyed the wine, food and the service. Knew I would be back the first 5 minutes at the bar. The bartender was very knowledgeable about wine, friendly, and attentive. The waiter and sommelier were a delight. Can't wait to go back with other friends.

Food was very good, but.....we were led to a table in a downstairs private room. There were 4 tables of patrons. One of them was a party of 10. In that small a room our group of 4 could not hear each other speak. We ordered appetizers and entrees and told our server we were sharing everything. 5 minutes later EVERYTHIng we ordered arrived at once. It was ridiculous. We sent back the entrees and just kept the appetizers and had them bring the entrees again later. Our server was trying but I had the impression she was overwhelmed. I would recommend the place for the food but warn people not to accept a table in the downstairs private room.

Second time here and it's as if "who's on First" A few different people standing over us and most annoying was someone removing items from the table after I told waiter we will be ordering additional items. The room looks lovely, the food I've had both times was very good, but there's something missing in their hospitality/serving.

After passing by yesterday I decided to visit Obicá for lunch today with a friend. Fabulous addition to the neighborhood! We had the prosciutto, Buffalo mozzarella and arugula pizza along with a couple of items from the mozzarella bar. They were all perfect! As an appetizer we order the lamb skewer from the bar menu and were disappointed the lamb was not seasoned though the fava bean puree was amazing. I have not gotten tired of the nouveau industrial design trend yet so was very happy with the décor. The service at the bar was amazing. The host station upon entry gave the impression that they were still trying to work out some kinks but congenial enough. I highly recommend this new restaurant (just 4 months old!)

Brought some customers to have dinner - had lunch a few weeks back to check the place out and was pleased. It was monday but really if you business theme is Mozzerella, should you really be out of 2 out of 4 Mozzerella options at dinner? Also our server disappeared toward the end of ou dinner and our evening dragged on at the end.

Nice modern interior. Lots of hard surfaces, so lots of noise. Service was speedy, efficient, but no real communication. Wine glasses too small, and pour was also small. Not a good first impression. By the glass is $13 and up. Cocktail also small! This is a problem that needs to be addressed if they are going to do well. Food was good. Fritti app. done well, but not even a lemon to go with it. Aioli would be nice. Scallops, small portion but very high quality, the "braised" fennel that went with it was crunchy; did not work. Duck pappardelle delicious , but had no discernible duck flavor. Too many more generous and enjoyable places in this neighborhood to entice me to return.

This restaurant was a bit of a disappointment after having many terrific lunches at the Midtown location. Perhaps the trick is to stay with the mozzarella and one or two side dishes. The mushroom pizza was fine, but the lasagna was heavy going and not particularly enjoyable. Stick with the simplest things until they polish their act.

While the food was good, it couldn't make up for the bad service. The hostess said she would seat us, then took 10 minutes before remembering. After we sat, another 10 minutes before being acknowledged. We had menus and a wine list, but not a wine-by-the-glass menu. Another delay. The burrata was great. A tomatoes with basil pesto plate we didn't order also came out. We were unsure if it came with the burrata. We ate it. It was good. We were charged for it. I didn't mind paying, but it speaks again to the overall service confusion at Obica. Food kept going to wrong tables, ours included. A manager recognized how the service failed and was very nice. We actually weren't upset by the experience, but disappointed and would not recommend.

First lunch at Obica. Service is attentive and friendly. Surfaces hard so noise can be an issue. We had good green salad and daily special soup and both were good enough to order again. The branzino was excellent and the chicken special was quite good but the portion too small to be the daily special -- where is the rest of that bird? Fruit plate dessert was nicely done and big enough to share.

A friend who lived in Italy loved the original Obica. So I was excited to take her to the New York version. Our reservations were for 8:30 PM on a week night, and the restaurant had a nice buzz and also plenty of empty tables. So we were disappointed to be placed in the very back next to where the dirty dishes are (loudly) bussed and servers shout. There was nothing wrong but also nothing very exciting about either the food or the pro forma service. Given how many extraordinarily good restaurants there are in the broader Union Square area, there is no reason to go back. And I was particularly annoyed the next day when I received an email from OpenTable claiming the restaurant said I was a "no show." I won't go back.

I discovered Obika in Rome and it’s my favorite place there. When I heard Obika opened in NY I was ecstatic. I went a few days ago and ordered mozzarella as a starter and fungi pizza. Mozzarella was too cold for my taste but I guess that is due to food safety regulations. The pizza dough was under-cooked and mushy, it didn't even taste good. I’m pretty sure this was baked by someone inexperienced. Bake the pizza dough first, then add the mozzarella and skip the olive oil drizzle! Other opportunities of improvement..Pour an additional ounce of wine, if it’s too expensive - add lower priced wines in the menu. Add signs to the bathroom downstairs, it’s a maze down there. There is so much potential in this restaurant and these are easy fixes.

They've jammed too many tables into the restaurant. It felt like the staff was going to run into you all the time. There was no clear path to the bathroom, you had to squeeze between someone's chair and a pillar to get to it. The management is very energetic and seemed like staff was running around all the time - at one point a manager ran into a kid's chair at another table and kicked it out from under him. Also, the pour of wine in a glass was tiny which I always find really annoying. That said, the food is good and the service was attentive. So I will go back, but if they don't adjust the layout then probably not for long.

We have a go-to mom-and-pop trattoria in our neighborhood, but we were having dinner with friends and wanted more of a vibrant scene, so we gave Obica a whirl. The food was great, definitely order mozzarella and a pizza. The wine and cocktails were also very good. If you're looking for someplace lower key, then I wouldn't suggest it. But for a fun night out with friends, it's a good pick.

Went to Obica for brunch and will likely return for a second meal. The space is modern/severe but attractive, and the food seemed fine. Haven't sampled the menu widely enough to be confident recommending the restaurant -- especially when there are plenty of top-notch Italian restaurants (plus a few clunkers) nearby, several of which seem superior. A second visit to Obica is needed before forming an opinion.

We had lunch. Service was unhurried in a negative way. Hard to get a waitress. Pizza was good. REminded me of Motorino and Ribalta mix. good crust and nice cheese. We had the classic and one with ham and arugala which was better. Pasta with duck ragu was minced duck and had no discernible taste. Lasagna was miniscule. Pasta with pesto and ravioli were adequate portions. Wine list is out of sight for a place with this ambiance. Our Tanqueray martinis were $17.00 and barely filled half the glass. Not nice! Too much for too little.

I found this place because it was listed as New and Hot on Yelp. It definitely deserves that title! I made a reservation using OpenTable the day of for around 7pm. We (table of 3) were seated after a short wait. Our waiter was funny and did a good job about not being able to pronounce Italian words any better than we could. We had three glasses of wine, which were all very good. I got the Margherita Pizza and it was nothing short of the most delectable pizza I've ever had. Seriously, the flavors were so perfect and the crust was so soft and wonderful. We had tiramisu for dessert and that was equally fantastic. I'll definitely be coming back!
