  • "Took a group of 7 here for a birthday celebration and had absolutely perfect service and delicious food. Several people commented on how tasty the food was the next day - one person said it was the best version of the entree he ordered that he's ever had, and nearly everyone at the table was a septuagenarian or higher, so that's impressive! Delicious food, great wine, and absolutely perfect service. We'll be returning again, and several first-timers to the restaurant will as well. I'm celiac and there are lots of options and the staff is well-informed."

  • "Everything from the drinks to the entrees at Oba is extremely tasty. It's a great place to just do tapas or get a full meal, and feel satisfied with either route. The guacamole is special in that they make it fresh at your table, to your liking. This really sets the experience apart from normal dining. The ambiance is a bit wild, but in a very natural and expected way for a Latin restaurant. It is a great place to take a group for an involved/family-style dinner."

  • "Food is good. We never have any luck really finding a meal we want to order. But we always find small plates that we can make a meal out of. But we decided it' s our last trip. 6.00 for 3-4 bites of an empanada and 18 for chips and guacamole is over the top. There are so many good places and carts we don't have to do that anymore."

  • "I hadn't been to Oba in about 5 years and found it still going strong. The food is still the star. Our entrees were well cooked and beautifully presented. Even the simple arugula salad was full of flavor. All this makes Oba popular and that can be tough when you're looking for a pleasant dinner for two. We were initially directed to a table in the middle of a room between a party of 15 and another party of 8. When we asked to be moved, the staff was accommodating and let us know with just a short wait, we could have a booth. There was some confusion among the hostesses (perhaps because there seem to be so many--at least 3), but in the end we were comfortably seated."

  • "We have been doing Portland Dining Month for three years and this was the best experience yet. We ordered the 3 course, $29.00 specials. The spinach salad was one of the best we have eaten, the Mahi Mahi perfectly cooked and served with tasty accompaniments, the pork with rice and black beans fit in with the Mexican theme of Oba, and the flan was quite good. We will return to enjoy Oba's regular menu."

Our waiter was very helpful in explaining menu options off the main menu as well as the promo one as we made our choices. Service was very, very courteous. We were not rushed. Food was served in a timely manner with great presentation and taste from the plate."

  • "My wife and I do not get out much any more with child factor and work schedules. We got a rare babysitter and chose Oba based on the Portland Dining Month promotion. We did not choose the promotion dinner, instead just got drinks and tapas. The service was very good, and the table was a nice 2-top. The place is a good blend of modern and comfortable. We ordered the calamari, crispy chipotle coconut prawns, pork arepas and seared ahi appetizers (tapas). The best of the bunch were the calamari which was good but a tad too salty, and the seared ahi, though it was lacking some seasoning. The pork arepas are good, and maybe the best value. The coconut shrimp were overcooked and a mild disappointment. 2 drinks each 4 apps $102 with tip. Too much."

  • "My online reservation said it was for my Husband's birthday. I had never been to Oba before so I just asked that we be seated by a window. The hostess was very pleasant and apologized that they had no tables at a window but presented a very nice, cozy booth, which was perfect. Our server was so knowledgeable and articulate regarding the menu and showed a real passion while describing many dishes in great detail. My mouth was watering! We already enjoyed a few appetizers in the bar for HH so for dinner we ordered about 4 or 5 tapas. We had octopus bruschetta, beef skewers, arepas, the bacon wrapped jalapenos, etc. Everything was great. The shrimp ceviche though was just ok. Our margaritas, mojitos and sangria were all very good."

  • "Loved our evening at Oba. Everything was perfect! To start, the cocktails were amazing: my grapefruit drop was delicious as were my friend's drinks as well. Three of us ordered the Ribeye and prime ribs. They were perfectly prepared with great seasonings and doneness. Our other friend had the paella, which he enjoyed also. The accompaniments to the entrees were wonderful too: the gruyere potato gratin & asparagus. Dessert was delicioso! This evening reminded us of our trip to Spain. Thank you again for a memorable evening!"

  • "I've been meaning to try this restaurant for years and finally went on Valentines Day and opted to try many things as opposed to just one entree. My boyfriend and I shared the jalapeño poppers, prime rib coyotes, pork arepas, crab cakes and shrimp fried rice. They were all very tasty, the perfect amount of spice mixed with richness. Also, for the tapas (sharable plates), you can choose a half size or full size - this option is great if you aren't too hungry or maybe just unsure if you'll like something the first time. We definitely wanted more of each plate when we were done so next time will be full servings of all :)"

  • "We dined at Oba before a 7:30 show at the Keller Auditorium, and our 5:45 reservation timed things perfectly. My husband and I shared the empanadas as an appetizer, then for our main course I had the swordfish and he had the ribeye. Both of us agreed that the swordfish was the better meal, but the ribeye was very nice as well. The dessert menu looked amazing but we did not indulge. Even better than the food was the service - attentive but not intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu but not pretentious, not afraid to make recommendations."

  • "We chose Oba as our first "Dining Month" restaurant to go to as we had been there before for a birthday celebration and liked it a lot. We both thought the two main entree choices were quite good and the salad as the first course was excellent. They were able to substitute sorbet for me rather than the chocolate flan (which was most delicious, but not good for a dairy allergic person!) and it was good also. The serving staff was frequently available to refill water glasses and to bring whatever we asked for. All in all, we enjoyed Oba and will return again."

The dishes were nicely portioned and presentation was lovely. Oba attracts larger parties which lend to a higher noise level, but never the less, a positive environment.   • "OBA's is our family's go to restaurant when everyone is in town. We all get to eat our favs and hang out, we never feel rushed, service is good, food awesome and consistent, which to me is really important when you are dropping some serious money for 5 adults to dine out. Great wine list too. It is fun to hang out in the bar too but it is a younger hang out place and gets busy, esp on weekends. The Restaurant and Bar have a nice lively, vibrant energy which is palpable, I LOVE IT :)"

  • "We went to O'Ba for a birthday dinner. The variety of food was broad. This is a Cuban inspired restaurant - that being said, you have to really enjoy the Cuban flavors on everything. We chose the rib-eye, medium rare, and the Blue Marlin special. The rib-eye did come rare, but was flavorful, nonetheless. The Blue Marlin was a overpowered by the toppings. We left feeling our food could have been better prepared. The service was EXCELLENT! We could not have had a more attentive, helpful server, who was able to handle multiple large tables with ease. I wish I remembered her name."

  • "After reviewing several possible restaurants for our first of two celebratory dinners (my two daughters and their 84 year old grandmother traveling from San Francisco); we chose Oba for the first night. Felt the menu offered multiple choices - no matter what, we could all find something to enjoy. The appetizers were horrible - their Prime Rib Coyotas tasted like frozen food specials from Costco. The Ceviche del Día was marginal at best. The main courses did not fare any better; as the Paella de Oba rated a 5 or 6 on a scale of 10. My prawn special seafood was average - not bad - but for $29 - expected something delicious. There were two excellent parts of the night - our server was very good and the margaritas were outstanding!"

  • "The food was good and the portions were good, the menu offers a different taste and flavor. The restaurant itself very noisy, (people talking), I don't blame the restaurant for that. The drinks on the other hand..well, sometimes mixcology doesn't work. My wife and I tried a couple of house drinks and both time they were just awful. It may just be our taste so try them for yourselves if you dine there. This was my second visit to Oba."

  • "Went to Oba for Valentine's and mentioned in tbe notes that I wanted to propose during dinner. The person that contacted me to confirm the reservation, Katie, worked with me to set up a truly wonderful surprise for my now fiancé. Everything was great from the service to the food to the overall romantic yet lively atmosphere. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and, after some discussion with us, was able to lead us in the right direction for a meal that we enjoyed immensely. A great experience and I definitely look forward to another amazing night at Oba.Thank you again for helping me give my lady, now my fiancé as well, the greatest Valentine's of her life, and of mine as well."

  • "We love Oba but I was a little disappointed this time. Out table was *extremely* rocky and cutting steak was a difficult feat. I had the paella and found it to be overly saucy. Our waitress was great and we enjoyed everything else. I was pleased that our table was ready for us when we arrived a few minutes early. Next time, I hope for a sturdier table and I'll try a different entree. We love this spot."

  • "Return customer who made dinner reservations for 4 about 2 wks prior to the dining event. It was apparent that the server was a bit overwhelemed. She did do a terrific job! HOWEVER, given that I made reservations, I was extremely suprised to have the server come to our table and ask us to leave so they could sit the next set of people. We spent about 1 1/2 hrs dining and were under the impression that we had a max of 2hr for the table as we made a reservation. We were in the process of leaving as we had paid for the check. I have NEVER been asked to give up a table before. There was no mention of this other group having a reservation or not and we were well within the standard 2 hr limit. We spent about $300 dollars this evening."
