Diner Reviews
  • "I think this is one of the best dining experiences I have had in Indianapolis. It was my boyfriends birthday and I requested in a note from the Open Table Reservation website to make it special! They went above and beyond. We were given a private table overlooking the kitchen. We enjoyed so much watching the dedication of the kitchen staff, talking to the sur chef and watching the beautifully plated dishes coming in and out of the kitchen! We tried 3 small plates and 2 large plates, every single one was superb! The dessert was to die for. The staff was super friendly and the service excellent and timely. My boyfriend was so deligthed. Oakleys definitively made the night special."

  • "As always, we had a wonderful dinner at Oakley's. Our celebration was our 31st anniversary and we were not disappointed. The service and food were both great. Always look forward to the ever changing seasonal menu. Salmon was superb, but not to be outdone by the decadent chocolate brownie dessert! Highly recommend both."

  • "Their food is always VERY good. At lunch time, you typically don't need a reservation"

  • "Granted, we came on a Friday night when the restaurant was swinging, but it looked to us like there were just too few wait staff stretched thin for the crowd. Food still arrived hot, but it did have to sit on the ledge waiting for runners for a bit , from what we could see. But it affected little things; we waited a bit getting water glasses refilled, for example, or requesting additional small plate orders. Food was awesome, though, and the restaurant is beyond beautiful at night. We'll be back!"

  • "The food was amazing and the staff is very knowledgeable for anyone needing some assistance in understanding what to expect from the unique menu selection."

  • "Delicious as always! Butternut squash maple soup was amazing! Love the rotating menu! Have tried dozens of different dishes here and have never been disappointed. I've been to French Laundry, Ad hoc, Slanted Door, and Oakley's is right up there in quality of food. Service is fantastic."

  • "We travel extensively, making sure when we visit Indy we go to Oakleys."

  • "Very nice Friday night dinner. Was not loud at all compared to how many people were there. I ordered the "toad in hole" and the eggs was so incredible I have dreams about how good it was. The scallops were also filled with amazing flavors. I would stay away from ordering anything other than beer and wine at the bar."

  • "Truly terrific food, beautiful presentation. All in all, one of the best restaurants anywhere. Oakley's is on the expensive side, but the food delivers-- amazing taste and is absolutely worth the money. Very few restaurants are."

  • "Family members and I took my husband there for dinner to celebrate a landmark birthday. The food was excellent and so different from what you have elsewhere. The service was very attentive, yet we were able to talk, visit and celebrate without undue interruption. We'll definitely go back for other special dinners."

  • "We did the tasting menu with wine pairings, and the chef and staff out did themselves in variety, service and deliciousness. Have been raving about it from the moment we left. WELL DONE."

  • "Let me start by saying that I am completely biased. I love Oakley's Bistro. It is my choice for every special occasion in my life. Oakley's is the whole package: amazing food, exceptional service, outstanding wine and cocktail list, warm and welcoming ambiance. Thank you Chef Oakley and staff for yet another memorable dining experience."

  • "We went to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, and as always, Oakleys delivered. The food was very inventive, the service attentive but not intrusive, and we were given a table in the middle, between the booths and the banquette seating, so we had plenty of room. It was a lovely evening."

  • "Oakley's has become one of our favorites because of the adventurous and outstanding food, excellent service, attractive ambiance and local ownership."

  • "It was a wonderful place to enjoy dinner with a large group of women. The restaurant prepared a beautiful table for us that was ready when we arrived. The service was great with the exception of the very end getting desserts and checks. This was likely due to some of us enjoying the Northside Nights Menu where dessert was included and others ordering from the menu where dessert needed to be offered; We also had some women needing to leave a bit early which increased the work of our server. The meal was great - loved the Salmon - and the mood was festive. Any issues with the noise level was probably because we were a large group among a lot of 2 and 4 top tables. Everyone had a great time and many expressed the desire to return soon."

  • "Time and again, Oakley's is consistently the best restaurant in Indianapolis. Food is excellent, presentation is fantastic and service is outstanding."

  • "Some of the onions in our french onion soup had been burnt (and I'm not talking about caramelization, but straight up burnt), and made the whole soup taste off. It kind of set my mood for the rest of the meal. Everything else after that, honestly, was absolutely delicious, but after paying $160 for 3 people and having burnt onions kind of made me unsure whether or not I'd go out of my way to visit this place again."

  • "Would be great lunch time restaurant in summer to eat outside. Booth next to kitchen was really cool."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "It was ok - that's all. Purporting to be a French restaurant, it fell way short of the mark. It was expensive but the quality just wasn't there to substantiate the price. Service was mediocre."

  • "We were there for a romantic dinner and its pretty tight without much noise dampening so it was pretty loud and you felt like the people next to you were right on top of you. The food is very good and very creative and flavorful. We just did a variety of small plates which was perfect."

  • "Oakley's has been a favorite of my husband & I since it opened! I recently had dinner there with my niece & a friend to go over some wedding plans. It was a perfect place to do this. We enjoyed the wine tasting first, then settled into a booth and had a delicious meal.It was quite enough that we could talk, yet lively. Our server was Lisa, great to see her back at Oakley's! She recommend the duck fat almonds to munch on while we finished our wine, and helped us choose a wine that would work with our dinner choices. Perfect!! I have and would again recommend Oakley's to anyone that wants a wonderful dining experience!"

  • "Great place. Love to go with a group. With so many great things on the menu, we like to order lots of things to share. Flavors are intriguing, presentation is outstanding and service couldn't be better. Oakley's has become our go-to place on Indy's north side. We travel from 50 miles away to experience this outstanding dining experience."

  • "Oakley's has that rare combination of an imaginative menu that delivers on taste and is served by attentive staff. Despite being in from out of town for our first visit we were treated like old friends. Our waiter (Stephen) was very helpful and friendly. The choices were interesting in concept and in flavor. The pace of the meal was perfect. We'll be back."

  • "4 of us had dinner on a Thursday night. We had things like Deviled eggs chicken Benedict. I had something called duck, duck, goose. Good selection with 1 column of small serving dishes which also worked well as appetizers or main dish for a dieter. The next column with larger servings. Service was great. My martini was perfectly prepared. Couldn't have been much better."

  • "I had asked for a special table and anything else they could do to make my husband's birthday special. We got the worst table! It was tiny, against a brick wall. I asked to be moved to an open table by the window and was told it was for 3-4 people. Well, 5 minutes later, a couple was seated there (I was NOT happy!). Our waiter was unattentive and acted like he was in a hurry (NO personality). I told him we were celebrating my husband's birthday; he could have cared less. Food was tastey, but VERY small portions. I ordered short ribs and there were 2 bites of meat in the whole dish. Place was packed and noisy. Bill was $140 for 2 ( with 3 drinks and 1 dessert). Left totally deflated and disappointed. Will never go back or recommend."

  • "My wife and I dined at Oakley Bistro to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant hasbeen a favorite of mine ever since I moved to the Indianapolis area 4 years ago. Last Saturday evening we were once again reminded of what a great restaurant can be as we had another great meal. My wife loves the starter, corn dog shrimp, then we sampled the chautarie plater which was excellant. My wife ordered the seasonal salad and sea scallops and I had the braised short ribs. So with a shared piece of chocolate carrot cake and coffee, we had enjoyed a great meal."

  • "The menu choices were unique. The food was delicious -- I selected the short ribs. The sauce and accompaniments were tasty. The portions were ample but not belly busting. Our waiter was very pleasant though service was on the slow side, both in waiting for our meals and for the check. Despite the somewhat slow service, I will return to Oakleys in the future and recommend it to friends."

  • "We decided to celebrate our 27th anniversary in Indianapolis since there was a Sybaris Pool Suites located there. We made reservations several weeks ahead of time and told them we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Did they do anything to make our visit special? No, they did not acknowledge our special day at any point during our visit. The food was good but overpriced. My belief is that they should just become a neighborhood gem by reducing prices just slightly. The wait staff also needs to recognize that everyone at the table is important. Our person ignored my wife and only spoke to me when checking on us. They went close to the line of making us feel welcome by asking how our meal tasted and saying thanks for coming as we left."

  • "Another amazing meal! Love trying the new menu items!"

  • "We have gone to Oakley's a couple of times per year for years. Recently, it has stopped offering bread and my main course (the pork cheeks nightly special) was delicious but hardly filling. Very few vegetables. The menu now has veggie side dishes. Is this just a ploy to keep main dishes at moderate prices? Our bottle of Tamarack Merlot was pretty good at first but faded in the glass an hour later. It is in decline."
