Upon arrival at the table, guests are provided with a homemade bread basket of warm foccacia and richly flavored spreads. In addition to the set menu, guests could dine at Oakland Hall Inn every day and still enjoy something different. A selection of specials is created daily with seasonal ingredients.
"I want to keep things interesting and offer new things that perhaps people have never tried," says chef Charyk.
An herb garden at the back offers much inspiration to Mr. Charyk and his staff, in addition to fine products sourced from specialty purveyors.
The wine list will not disappoint. In addition to a wide selection of good Canadian wines, Oakland Inn offers 200 labels from both old and new world wines. Well-known labels are also available by the glass.

Diner Reviews
  • "Always an enjoyable experience. The service from our waiter was excellent, our food ranged from good to bland. I ordered the Bison it came with a mushroom gravy, it had very little flavor. Our other diners had New York steak which was delicious, the seafood meals were enjoyed. We had help with our wine selection and appreciated the chance do a tasting. The live music was very enjoyable overall a lovely experience enjoyed by all."

  • "We seldom treat ourselves to a nice dinner, so it is so nice to have nearby dining that is guaranteed an exquisite experience. The food is always first rate, the surroundings very comfortable, and the service a perfect balance of providing for all needs without being intrusive. There is nothing better in the area."

  • "My only concern/comment is that because my lobster had to be re-done, my son & husband were served first and basically finished their meal before I received mine. I would have preferred that they try to keep their food hot and serve us together"

  • "The lobster fest set dinner is a good deal which comes with appetizer, 1.5 lb whole lobster and dessert. The seafood salad is delicious. Seafood linguini is made with high quality seafood. The scallops are huge! Crème brulee is excellent. Even the vanilla ice cream is high quality. The restaurant is more for romantic dinner but my two teenage daughters still love it. The service is great. Every detail is taken care of. No complaint."

  • "Whenever I have been to Oakland, everyone has always been very friendly. I love the ambience. The chef has always been accommodating to all my needs and wishes. This last time, I must say I missed the nice waiter I had the last time I was there. "

  • "Good food but owners desperately need to test the service, ambience and food presentation. (Wow, try tackling the caesar salad!) I found the background music almost non exsistant. The prerequisite for ANY restaurant server would be the knowledge of the basic ingredients in all the dishes. One wait staff "guessed" at what was in the seafood salad. She was totally wrong. The finishing time of our 4 entres was off having to wait a minute for the fourth. I ordered the trio seafood entre. I received one scallop, menu stated "scallops". Lastly, sit for over an hour in the dining room - please re-pad your dining chairs. "

  • "Food was great, especially the ostrich carpaccio. Lamb shank with pasta a bit too salty for me, but overall quality of the food was still very good. We were seated at the more formal dining room, which was more quiet. But if you prefer a more lively scene, make sure to ask for the dining room where the piano is. They have live music every Friday and Saturday night, great music. Staff are friendly as well. "

  • "We were impressed with our dining experience at Oakland Hall. Although a little pricey, the service and food went beyond our expectations. We were seated promptly and our waitress was very good. never The scallops for appetizers were amazing, well presented and perfectly prepared. We also tried the escargot in pastry shell, which was pretty and tasty, and the brie fritters, that were very good. From the lamb, lobster, Kobe beef and fish that we ordered, all were cooked to our desire, and of exceptional quality. Wine by the glass was available in 2 generous serving sizes. There was a pianist and singer performing that night in the lounge and the singers voice was wonderful. We will definitely be back."

  • "Nice conveiniently located Restaurant and Wine Bar. Great for a full meal or just to sit down at the bar for a Glass of Wine in the piano bar and listen to some soft Jazz. The owner Tom is very hands on and comes around to make sure everything is perfet."

  • "Went there for Valentines Day, second year in a row now, and this place never disappoints. The owner is always there to greet the guests and make sure everything is in order. The food is extraordinary, interesting selections, and portions are generous. Great place for any occasion, - good for a casual night out but also a great setting for a dressed up dinner, without the snobby vibe. Went there for our anniversary as well. Will be going back and making it a tradition."

  • "While the main floor table and restrooms were what we were looking for, we found the food temperature to be lukewarm rather than hot. It took 20 minutes for the wait staff to recognize we were finished our tea / espresso and would like the bill. The wait staff were very attentive to repeat customers and not to new customers. We were not offered a second beverage and the wait staff did not return for our payment, we handed the bill and cash to the hostess at the door as we left."

  • "We went to Oakland for dinner on New Year's Eve. Menu was fabulous, DJ was good. It was not packed so that was nice as I usually stay home on New Year's due to over crowding everywhere. The menu was $80 pp which included an app, main, dessert and a glass of champagne at midnight. With wine dinner for four was $600, pricey, but we had fun!!"

  • "The food is very good and prepared with care. Service was good to a point, but then they seemed to be trying to play catch up. I would give them the benefit of the doubt since they started off great, and it was Christmas Eve after all. The bar area was quite noisy, I don;t know why they didn't put us in the other section, it could have been more enjoyable. It's decor is charming, yes it appears old, but charming nonetheless. There is a certain amount of comfort in that, and as I have said above, the food doesn't take a back seat. I would recommend for groups, small or large."

  • "Enjoyable anniversary celebration, welcoming environment two cozy dining rooms on the first floor a few private rooms on the second, the bar area is inviting with nice window tables for a more casual affair, for next time Great menu choices and a few specials also offered, we opted for the surf and turf for two and were not dissapointed. A very good variety of wines available we chose a California Cabernet and what a good choice it was... great dessert choices a couple of coffees and cognac ... for this type of place, quality and service prices are reasonable and as expected on the higher end of the scale... The atmosphere was a bit lacking as there was no background music to fill the space and enhance the personal experience..."

  • "I wanted a place where the food was a little out of the ordinary yet not surprising. A little out of the way place with a quiet ambiance and a comfortable atmosphere. It fitted well with the occasion of our second anniversary. With flowers waiting on the table and a quiet corner table the mood was perfect and intimate. We ate wonderfully prepared meals complimented with a lovely choice of wines. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Our server was attentive yet allowed us some quiet time between courses to share some intimate moments together. The atmosphere was subdued and comfortable in line with the mid 1800 slender of this old home. A real dining gem. We had a wonderful time."

  • "I hadn't heard about this restaurant until I found it on OpenTable. We had salads start which were well done and well presented, maybe with a bit too much dressing. And then the seafood platter for two. It was very nice. It's easy to improperly cook seafood but the chef cooked everything perfectly. We were far too full to order dessert. It wasn't as quiet as I had hoped for a fine dining restaurant, But that's the fault of the other patrons and not the restaurant. One thing that bothered me immensely, and I have had it at other restaurants, is when you put 15% tip into the credit card machine it calculates the tip on the tax as well. That's not right."

  • "My initial feeling about the ambience and the atmosphere was very good. We ordered our meals which was a mix of steak, rainbow trout, chicken and lamb in addition to 4 appetizers. Up until this point all was well. The appetizers took 40 minutes to arrive. The entrees took about 50 minutes to arrive and I ordered steak (medium well) and it was burnt on the outside and the inside was more like medium rare. I did not complain as this was a celebration meal and I didn't want to alter the good mood. However I did voice my frustration at the waiting time to a gentleman (who didn't introduce himself) and the response was that they were only human. Having spent $400 on the meal, that response was completely inadequate and it left a very bitter taste."

  • "The food never fails to impress! We had the lobster for our anniversary. I had it steamed and my husband had it done Thermidor, which means its twice baked with cheese and veggies...both were amazing!"

  • "Loved the ambience of this restaurant. Service was good but I have enjoyed better. Manager or Owner of the establishment was on the phone on two occasions and was quite loud. Even though he was in the next room we could hear what he was actually saying. It was a bit distracting. Lobster thermidor ordered. We thought that it was a bit rich and thought that it should be served with hollandaise sauce and not cheese. Quite disappointed with this entree. The duck entree was very good. Scallop appetizer and oysters rockefeller where both very good. Would return again and give the restaurant one more chance. Thankyou."

  • "I was looking for a place to take my wife for our 16th wedding anniversary and after a referral from a friend I decided on Oakland Hall Inn. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly hostess who guided us to our table. We were given a few minutes to get comfortable and do an initial scan of the wine and dinner menu before our exceptional waiter Alex came over. Alex proceeded to tell us the specials of the night. We proceeded to request a recommendation from wine from Alex and he gave us a good choice that accompanied the meal well. We went with the Surf and Turf for two that turn out to be an extremely good choice and enjoyed every bite of the meal. This is a great place for a very good meal and exceptional service."

  • "Beautiful setting in excellent location. Good for special occasions, small weddings . Minimal staff, not very interested in customers but would give another try : The location and Food . Well prepared, fresh dishes, varied menu and daily specials to choose from. Broiled lobster perfect. Grilled salmon superb accompanied with tasty ,warm Quinoa salad. Unfortunately service deplorable, waiter very distracted, did not seem interested .Due to long wait we opted for ice cream for dessert. Restaurant was not full and kitchen very slow. Pity."

  • "The food was as usual, excellent, as the Chef excels in all aspects, from appetizers to mains. We had escargot, beet sld, oysters and the special , lobster thermidor accompanied by a unique caesar sld , a must for those who appreciate a great home dressing. Chef killed it! Corrine is among the best hostesses we have had the pleasure of being attended by in our not limited dining history, the lady gets what it takes to make an evening for her guests. We have visited the restaurant faithfully over the past several years and never tire of the complete experience. The beautiful home, built in 1845, replete with original woodwork and stories of the past is charming. If you do visit, we hope you enjoy the food, service and the setting as we did."

  • "We were greeted by a charming and vibrant hostess who immediately recognized our situation as provided when the reservation was made. She showed us to our secluded table (as requested) and asked if there was anything we needed immediately and then told us our server would be here shortly. The lobster thermador was excellent and the dinner ended with coffee and a complimentary desert to celebrate the occasion. It was a very satisfying evening. Thank you Oakland Hall."

  • "The dinner was excellent as we expected. the service was prompt and courtious and very friendly. We were seated in a room to ourselves so the ambiance was just right. I wil and have already recommended the restaurant to several people. We will absolutely be back.My wife was pleasantly surprised with the complimentary banana cheesecake that was brought out for her birthday celebration. The cake was absolutely delicious and capped the dinner off perfectly. My compliments to the chef as well for the best mussels I have ever had, and I have had mussels in many places to compare. Keep up the good work"

  • "We have been to Oakland Hall before for special occasions and found our experience lacking this time. The hostess and waitstaff were not quite as professional as I would expect for a fine restaurant, and neither were we particularly impressed with the food. The bread basket was served with hard butter straight from the fridge that one had to flake off with a knife. The starters were heavy on quantity but lacking in quality; the tomatoes in the bocconcini salad were as hard as apples, and the Brie fritters consisted of an astounding quantity of fried cheese for one person. The risotto was quite salty. They were sold out of the dessert of the day even though we ate relatively early."
