Diner Reviews
  • "The detail I most liked about Oak is the atmosphere. I really like the decor and feel of this restaurant. It has a calming yet sophisticated feel. The service was just fine though it felt like our server was always in a rush. The food was prepared well and tasted fresh. There was not much about the food here that made us think "wow", except for possibly the dessert. I would likely come back to Oak for a drink at the bar and dessert."

  • "Oak provided a nice dining experience. It is elegantly done with low external volume level. Excellent place to converse. The appetizers were "knock your socks off" good. Presentation was outstanding. Entrees were merely OK...not great, not awful. Service was prompt and attentive. Menu is somewhat limited, but adequate."

  • "Dependable, quiet enough for great conversation, excellent service, outstanding food, and just great restaurant. We took a large group there (8) for a late dinner (8:30 pm) most of them for the first time and had a great dining experience (again)."

  • "I was surprised we were able to drop in last minute as it's been full in the past. Service was very nice eexcept for the constant reaching across our table every few minutes to fill our water.... Sigh. We did the halibut and grouper. Nicely done and fresh. Missing that little extra for the fifth star rating. Didn't check the wine list or desserts. Maybe next time."

  • "I was extremely happy with Oak. The flavors were exciting and satisfying. It seemed every choice on the menu would have been a solid one. PLEASE keep the website menu up to date. The service was impressive and never over attentive. The reason I didn't give the food 5 stars is simple. It wasn't the most exciting food. Everything was tasty and I will definitely mention how amazing the food is to other people, I am not excited enough to call it a foodie friendly place. ITS SOOO CLOSE!!! And actually with your clientele, serving something that is exciting for a regular diner yet still is approachable to everyone keeps the restaurant flush with foot traffic. However it doesn't completely satisfy my standard, which is incredibly high."

  • "Liked this place. Very attentive team of people. The food was GREAT. The Bar is a awesome place to have a conversation and not have to yell at each other. Not over hyped trying to be all things to everybody."

  • "I truly enjoyed the level of service, the decor and those sofas were a HUGE hit, with us. The attendant was superb, he was attentive and had something ALL attendants should possess ---- PERSONALITY."

  • "Bartender was excellent, great manhattans. Food was very good except for the fish, which was average at best."

  • "Was just at Oak and had a wonderful experience. The service was caring and not hurried. The food is plated in such a way that it looks like smaller portions, but you will have trouble finishing it. I thought the wines by the glass menu could use a few better selections, but overall it was wonderful."

  • "the three stars is for the expensive wine. At $19 a glass, it is hard to order several glasses in order to enjoy the restaurant."

  • "Great space. Good was just ok. Menu limited. This was my second time and the food was better the first time."

  • "We had a late reservation on a Monday night (9:30, last seating). We got there 20 min early and were seated immediately. There were only a couple of tables occupied, which is not unexpected for late Monday. The cocktail menu included some good drinks, we both enjoyed 2 mixed drinks and thought they were well done. The menu is small but varied. We started with Artichoke soup and the Risotto, which we both enjoyed. I had the duck which was well prepared and tasted great. My husband had the venison which was well prepared, but seems to not be his favorite protein now that he has tried it a couple of times. No fault of the restaurant on that though. I'd like to go again on a Friday or Sat night just to see what the vibe is like."

  • "1. We were seated in a booth which was very very uncomfortable. We asked for pillows to which helped a little. 2. The food is very good but overpriced. 3. All in all an okay spot but not worth the money! 4. Takisker Single Malt is $22 for 2 oz. WAY overpriced."

  • "The ambiance was great, love the decor. Classy meets industrial. Wine list is extensive, food was good but not crazy good. I had the scallops, which were tasty. We really enjoyed the aged cheddar grits. This place is very fancy and expensive. The service was excellent but too involved with our dinner for my liking. The waiter recited every single dish on the menu, which was unnecessary and time consuming. The dishes are beautiful, a work of art, however the taste is the most important thing to me, not the presentation.. I enjoyed myself but would not go back because of the price and the food did not knock my socks off.."

  • "I enjoyed this setting/ambiance. I was impressed that we were able to hold a conversation and hear each other so well in such an open space. Started out with a cheese platter- good, but very costly for such a small amount of each type. Tried pork belly- good flavor, but not cooked well- had to use our knives to saw through it! Entrees were good. Husband had seared sea scallops, which most good restaurants know how to do well, but farro with it was too salty. My fish had good flavor and was well cooked, but the paltry accompaniments left much to be desired. Overall, service was adequate, but became very smug immediately after we had signed the bill. As if to say, "thanks, but we need this table." Above + cocktail + 2 glasses of wine= $160."

  • "We had an attentive waiter - not rushed, but timely service. The menu is not large, but has interesting options. Food presentation is very nice, and dishes were nicely seasoned. We had venison and cobia and both dishes were delicious. I love my coffee, and the coffee refills came when I was ready. We'll be going back."

  • "This was our third visit and the first disappointment. The setting is beautiful and comfortable, and we would not mind the high prices if the food lived up to them. My husband had the $45 ribeye, which was thin, small and unremarkable. I had the $38 special pork chop, which I was assured would be cooked medium and juicy -- wrong! The one good exception was the delicious special appetizer of shrimp fettucine. Our server was very unpolished for this type of restaurant. There are too many dining choices in Dallas for us to consider returning to Oak."

  • "We celebrated a birthday with a small group. I asked for a quiet table and the Oak staff did not disappoint. Food, service, ambiance was all perfection. I love the brussel sprouts for the table. The lobster dish with a touch of vanilla was surprisingly good. Such a fun, delightful evening!"

  • "I took a client (who is a foodie and wine snob) to Oak for dinner on Wednesday night. I was seeking to find a high-quality dining experience but different from the many Dallas steakhouse-tpye restaurants. Oak was perfect! The food was spectacular. The menu featured several wild game options including venison meatballs which were delicious. Our waiter (who also might have been the chef) was great. Friendly, professional and very knowledgeable about both the menu and the wine list. All in a great dining experience - great food, good wine in a cool, quiet atmosphere. In addition, I got the business!"

  • "This is my second visit. The food is creative, excellent, and extremely well presented. The ambience is good for a date or a business dinner. The crowd tends toward a sophisticated mix of locals and business diners. Not many 30-somethings here. Everything I have eaten in the two visits has been excellent. A minor complaint is that the staff does not know much about the excellent wine list the restaurant offers. On my first visit, our waiter described a wine we asked about as "super delicious". On the second visit, a different waiter simply had no clue when asked about the difference between to different selections. Overall a great dining experience and worth the steep prices."

  • "The entire experience from the food to the service was impeccable. Well-done!"

  • "I have dined at Oak several times. The quality of the food has remained very good, even after the notable executive chef departed last year. My most recent dining experience included surprisingly poor service. The server would simply forget to check our table for lengthy periods of time, during which our beverages needed refresh and our table needed to be cleared more than once. For a restaurant that charges what Oak does --- and understandably so given the quality of the food --- the level of service we were provided is simply unacceptable. The poor service detracted substantially from what was otherwise a very good dining experience."

  • "Friends took us there for the first time. We were so impressed with the food and the service we decided to go again. Our waiter was one of the best we have ever had. We all had different dishes, Cobia (fish), duck, scallops, steak, the presentation was beautiful and the food was outstanding. I like that the portions are not oversized. I left satisfied and not overfull and even had appetizer and dessert. From the cheese plate to the Tiramisu, the experience was fantastic. I highly recommend."

  • "Visited Oak a few times over the past few years, always impressed, but geographically out of our locale. Decided to go on my wife's birthday after a year since our last visit. I noticed is was relatively empty for a Tuesday dinner. After we recieved our main course, we figured our why. My guess, it will not make it past this summer's lull if dramatic improvements are not made in the kitchen. May already be too late."

  • "The food was very salty. Portions were even smaller than you would expect for a high end restaurant. Drinks were good, but food was marginal. Prices very high for quantity and quality of food. Would not return."

  • "We tried Oak the other night and were very disappointed!!!! They first came with an amuse bouche of seafood croquet. It was a not even up to a Coctco frozen hors d'oeuvre. I ordered the Jerusalem Artichoke soup for an appetizer, which was fine, not great. My entree was a beef cheek over kale. Aweful!! It tasted like a boiled beef cheek over canned greens, truly, no exaggeration. My husband ordered the risotto which again, was just fine. I could smell the fishy, overcooked scallops, before the waiter even got to the table. Neither of us ate even 1/2 of our meal. Oak is one of the worst restaurants that we have been to in years!! Don't bother!"

  • "Celebrated a friend's birthday at Oak. Everything was top notch, including the service - right there when we needed it, but not obtrusive. Great suggestions and a rapid and efficient fix of one thing that went slightly wrong. We ended the evening with a delicious dessert recommended by Matt, our main server, and complimentary champagne. We will definitely be back."

  • "We have eaten here several times over the years and tried it again this past Saturday. This weekend the food was only average. We had: Appetizers: -Risotto: was decent and would recommend. The almond and celery were interesting together with cauliflower. -Radish & Apple Salad: ok, but nothing special. Not much taste. Mains: -Crusted Cobia: very fishy. Both the people who ordered it, didn't finish it and one sent it back. Tasted old. -Lobster Suquet: they take it out of the shell and put into a bowl with reduction of some sort. It was pretty good, but for $46 i would expect a bit better quality. It was slightly overdone. -Niman Ranch Ribeye: Was ok, but what do you expect ordering steak here? For what it was, it was ok."

  • "My husband and I cannot say enough about this fabulous restaurant. From the moment we walked in the door, thanks to the kind hostess and our wonderful waiter, Gadi, we had a primo evening. Fantastic menu, food -every single bite- was delicious, great bar drinks, dessert...just everything was perfect. That is REALLY hard to come by! To top it all of- they offered Mariages Freres tea. Heaven."

  • "I took a client who was in town for New York and she absolutely loved this restaurant. The food was great but our waiter was not great. He seemed like he really didn't want to be there and wasn't helpful when we asked questions about the menu. That being said the food made up for it. Highly recommend the duck!"

  • "Oak is a beautiful restaurant with wonderful food, but they really need to work on their service if they are going to continue to charge the prices that they do. Our waiter came to take out drink order and stated that as soon as he "got out of here" he was going to have a drink too. We all have a bad day now and then, so we understood his sentiments, but we would have preferred that he did not share them with us. He also pushed to order, so it was not as relaxing as a dinner as we had hoped. The secondary waiters were very rough and interrrupted our conversation throughout dinner. With all of the restaurant choices in Dallas, we will not go back here."

  • "We have dined here several times, but this last experience was terrible. The staff was less than helpful, my steak was tough after it was described as being "like butter". The hostess was not helpful in finding us a table even thought we had a reservation. The wait staff were "bothered" by requests and not proactive in meeting needs. I think this restaurant came up too quickly and is now falling short. It's a shame because it was once a fun new place to take friends. We'll be looking elsewhere for a cool experience"
