Diner Reviews
  • "One of the best meals I have ever had. I can't praise this place enough. The service was also top notch!"

  • "Once an outstanding restaurant in Charleston, Oak has lost it's luster. Our waiter highly recommended the Rib Eye- it arrived undercooked and the meat was tough. The side dishes lacked flavor and an over abundance of butter. Simply put-- we were disappointed with our pricey, average meal. With all the restaurants to choose from in Charleston, Oak might considering stepping up it's game."

  • "I loved the entire dining experience at Oak. The food was delicious (I had the red leaf salad, followed by the 5 oz cut filet with frites and my husband had a special - heirloom tomato Caprese salad and pasta Bolognese). We were there on a Sunday night, so the Prosecco we ordered was half off, which encouraged us to share a bottle rather than just have one glass a piece. But I especially appreciated the host coming over while we had our entrees to ask if everything was satisfactory - very nice touch. Our waiter was great, the ambiance very lovely on the third floor. Very enjoyable way to spend our last night in Charleston."

  • "The food was fantastic. We had the NY strip and filet and both were cooked perfect. The lobster mac and cheese was delicious as well! As much as we enjoyed the food, the service was lacking. Once we received our main courses, we did not see our server again until he cleared our plates and offered dessert. I would recommend Oak, but save yourself the trouble and eat at the bar."

  • "Went to Oak with 7 family members and a friend to celebrate my son's (formal) entrance into the teen years ; he's been acting it for a few now! Dinner was superb. Amazing appetizers (it's fresh tomato season), superb steak and lamb, generous tasty sides and a delicious birthday cake! Oak did it all including making the cake! Colin was congenial, knowledgable and very attentive; the consummate professional! Management came and checked on us and made us feel VIP! Thank's to Oak and to Opentable!!!"

  • "I dined recently at Oak Steakhouse with a large group for a birthday celebration. While there were no real disappointments, there were no real outstanding aspects about the food and ambience. I do have to say the service was superb. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and was enthusiastic about his service. However, at the end of the day, this was just another steakhouse. There was really nothing on the menu that incorporated the local area fare. The steaks were delicious and cooked properly but one guest ordered a cheeseburger and it was totally overcooked. The one aspect that would draw me back in the future would be the half price bottles of wine on Sunday but that would only get me there on Sunday."

  • "My wife and I live in Charleston. Oak Steakhouse has been on my to-do list for quite a while. I consider myself a chophouse guru and my specialty would be bone-in ribeye. I was happy with the over all dining experience, especially the food. Oak also has a very nice bar downstairs."

  • "The service was very good the steaks were excellent along with the sides and the dessert I would definitely will go back if we were leaving in Charleston"

  • "First time here, the wine list and steaks were outstanding. Really enjoyed our waiter he did an outstanding job. Told them it was our 25th wedding anniversary and they did something special for us."

  • "Oak Steakhouse is a great place for Dad to enjoy a steak. The beef is excellent! You can bring the whole family. The plentiful staff is friendly and accommodating! And the menu includes some special kid-friendly items. For the adults, they have a very nice wine list and offer discounts on bottles on some days."

  • "Dry aged NY strip is one of best steaks in Charleston!! Love the mezzanine. Great and friendly service with a special touch on our 23rd wedding anniversary. Charleston Local husband and wife."

  • "We've been coming here for 7 years now and unlike some other highly tauted restaurants, Oak NEVER disappoints!"

  • "Not only was the service spot on, the food was delicious! We started out with amazing salads and then ordered a steak and a side. The sides: smoky bacon mac/cheese and a tomato soufflé were large enough for take-outs and wonderfully made! We sat at the Chef's table with a great glass of wine and enjoyed the orchestration of the kitchen! Nice job Oak! We will return!"

  • "With upper King Street the new "in" place in Charleston, it is easy to forget some lower peninsula gems such as Oak Steakhouse. We walk there and usually am able to get a table if we call that day. The food is as good as any of the up town steak houses in Charleston."

  • "We have frequented "the Oak" for many years. Consistently fine dining experiences. Celebrated our Anniversary with dinner this week. Food was excellent, as usual, however waitstaff experience was a bit below par this time. We'll allow a pass though since our waiter also had a "rowdy-bunch" table nearby...and The U.S. speaker of a The House was seated next to us. We'll be back, but next visit I hope they at least offer us bread. :-) "

  • "The restaurant is very nice. The service was very good. The food was very tasty. The portions were very small, and the prices pretty high. The 8 oz steak was about $30, but they charge extra for sides (Mac & Cheese was like $12, that's cheesy!). They did offer ½ price bottles of wine the day I was there (up to $80, then $40 off). "

  • "Other than the "guess what's under my apron" game, zack was a great server. (That was a joke). Good recommendations, knowledge of the menu, friendly. Acknowledged our special evening. Very well done. Food, very good flavor, great options on sides and sauces and adaptability of the kitchen. Ambience, perfect."

  • "Took my wife for her birthday. Enjoyed the food and the service. My wife asked why we had been wasting our money at other restaurants in the area. Very very good! Hope to return very soon!"

  • "We arrived early. This is on Broad St: small spaces, and on a busy Thursday evening, no place to sit. Wait staff is very courteous. Menu is a bit rich (cheese on many items) for our tastes, and servings over generous, so plan accordingly. Chopped salad was fresh, roasted mushrooms very good, filet was the best quality item in our order: lean, tender, cooked exactly to order. "

  • "Ordered the truffle fries as am app... Gorged ourselves!!! So yummy! My friend had the filet and a side of smokey bacon Mac and cheese and it was perfect! I had the crab cakes, they were perfectly prepared and loaded with crab meat, not doughy at all. We sat upstairs so noise was not an issue. It increased the ambiance. Overall a most enjoyable meal! "

  • "The service, food and attention to detail was just out of this world. We could not have had a better night! Thanks you for your hospitality and service. Eddy Romero"

  • "Great dinning experience! The dry aged steak was excellent as was the salad, appetizer and wine. The server was on top of his game and the entire staff was friendly and accommodating. Was costly but that's what you get for a high end steak house. Highly recommend it. "

  • "I had the house made pasta with lobster. It had the potential to be great but the red onion so over-powered the rest of the dish that I didn't taste the lobster or English peas at all. I was extremely displeased. I couldn't taste anything but onion. We also ordered the charcuterie plate and other than the country ham, that my husband loved, it was the same salami that we buy from whole foods. We were not impressed at all. My husband had the special which was filet with lobster and he ordered it medium rare. His steak was from all rare to medium. Very poorly cooked. The building was great but that was about it. "

  • "The restaurant's atmosphere was great. Appetizers were very good as was the salad. The tenderloin was good but my ribeye was tough. Our sides got sent to another table so we cancelled them. Coconut cake was delicious."

  • "The food here was probably the best I have ever had. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I recommend that anyone who travels to Charleston to make this restaurant a destination for one their meals. "

  • "My family enjoyed themselves. Waiters were very accommodating to our 1 year old son. The food was excellent. The fried lobster was the best I've ever tasted"

  • "This last time at Oak was very disappointing. excellent staff. Our server was excellent. The food was just fair on the whole. It lacked flavor, presentation was just ok. The quality of the meat was very good, but we had to send some back because it was not cooked to the temperature requested. My temperature was wrong also, but I did not send it back, I just ate it. You are a high end steak house, with a high price tag. If you want return business, please pay attention to your kitchen. Oak was the # 1 steak house in Charleston at one time. Hall's opened and took your spot. There is enough business in Charleston to share that spot, but you cannot get back there when you charge the same prices for less varity ,quality and flavor. "

  • "The food and service were both incredible! Crabcake was to die for! Tenderloin was cooked exactly the way I asked. The homemade sorbet was delicious & unique. I am a local but this was my first time at Oak. I can't wait to go back again! Josh was our server & he made the experience even better. "

  • "Everything was very good, but not quite at the level I would've expected for $100 a person. Definitely only recommend for a really special occasion"

  • "Kyle and I are foodies and love the experience of sitting and enjoying an evening of cocktails, apps, food and wine. This is our 5th or 6th trip to Oak and the last 2 times the service and the food have been an issue. It is taken care of at the Manager level but it should not happen. I steak that has to be sent back is not acceptable. The waiter walked by and without stopping placed Kyle's drink on the table (one that had to be remade). Just not the service and quality for the price."

  • "The entire staff made my daughter's 16th birthday extra special! Not only did they make her a bacon wrapped filet that wasn't on the menu but they ended the meal with birthday cake! Zach, our server, was funny and entertaining! We'll dine at Oak again soon!"

  • "The steaks are to die for and so is everything else. Mentioned that it was our wedding anniversary and they treated us like royalty. This place is really pricey but worth it!"

  • "Men in our party agreed they had the best steaks ever. Women found the fish of the day and the crab cakes to be delicious. The spinach was good, roasted mushrooms were fantastic. The salads and dessert we shared were all very good. The service couldn't be any better. Our server was knowledgable and helpful. Too expensive for everyday, but an awesome special occasion restaurant. "
