Oak at fourteenthGreat recoveryThe first time I went to Oak I had an interesting experience.I had a reservation for 4, and at the last minute a friend in town on business wanted to join our group. I called to change the res to 5. When I arrived with my party of 4 (my friends meeting was running late and unsure when he would show) I was told we can not be seated until our entire party has arrived. I was told without much concern that we can wait at the bar. This was disappointing until after much bombardment and awkward back and forth, another hostess finally sat us at a table for 6 (in a room full of empty tables). I decided not to return, but gave Oak another shot when a colleague wanted to have a business dinner. My experience was much better the second time.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent food. great service.excellent food. great service. Really loud on the night we were there. Couldn't hear the person next to me. Otherwise....excellent!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat?Had a wonderful meal at Oak on 14th. Started with Meatballs -First thing on the menu. perfect with buratta and grits. Also tried the Calamari - refreshing, the Fried pickles (just because) delicious if you like pickles and the sprimp and Gnocci. Tasty, but the Gnocci was a little dense. The steak, chicken and the house made ravioli were perfect. The duck ala peking style did not have that much flavor and was a little chewy. Apply /Kale salad was the best we've ever had. nice job.
no desert for use - looked predictable. The wine list had a good selection.
The cocktails were delicious too. a course in itself. Definitely start with a cocktail!!!!
My only complaint is that it was hard to hear the others at the table. a little noisy.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMShared platters were the bestShared platters were the best value; large platter duck breast was perfectly done but overpriced. Foie gras was not what I expected: thin slices of a "sausage" with a rind! Service was outstanding.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first time atThis was our first time at Oak to celebrate our 36th anniversary for lunch before going to Denver for a concert at the Bellco Theater. Both the food and service were outstanding and it it was a perfect start to our celebration. The staff was warm, welcoming, and sincere from the owner Bryan, to the Chef on the grill (Brian). Thanks also to Fernando who served us with great knowledge of product and grace, and Glenn for creating great cocktails. We will certainly return.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for dinner with friendsGreat for dinner with friends or impressing clients with a fantastic menu of excellent food.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you haven't tried Oak,If you haven't tried Oak, you should. Easily the best place in Boulder. Your senses will be delighted!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat menu with unique dishes.Great menu with unique dishes. Especially love the homeade donuts although they didn't have them available this time. I've come here a few times for business meetings and have never been disappointed. The waitstaff is very attentive which is refreshing.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMstellarfantastic food, fantastic wine, and brilliant company!
perhaps the best dinner i've had in boulder as of recent.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't miss this food!Superb and creative food that was delicious! Divine, innovative drinks mixed with care and skill and a menu with a nod toward those who want higher or lower alcohol content. There were young children in the dining room so we chose to eat in the bar where it was lively and accommodating. Cute, young servers who were enthusiastic if not formally trained but their behavior was charming and they covered each other well.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is absolutely amazingThe food is absolutely amazing here. We had the pork cheeks as the appetizer (the first time I have ever had cheeks) and they literally melted in your mouth. My husband hates grits and LOVED the cheddar grits with the shortrib. I wish I could give this place 5 starts but our service left a lot to be desired. I don't know if our waiter was new or just not very into it but it felt like we were forgotten about a lot and didn't really matter. He also didn't speak English very well.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best food and presentation!Love, love, love oak. I have 2 stapes for business lunches. Oak is one. There is something for everyone.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great but I had toFood was great but I had to wait for my whole party to arrive before they would seat me even though I had a reservation. It would have been nice to sit and have a drink while we waited for the last person to arrive. It was also very noisy! I loved everything we tried and would go again for sure!!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBest in BoulderMeatballs with cheesy grits are luxurious, salmon entree so yummy. Great cocktails! Best restaurant in Boulder!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's a keeper!Great menu..always a good sign when you need to ask about indgredients you haven't experienced before. Service was attentive, albeit a little quirky. Wait person asked us (party of 3) for drink orders, then after I provided mine, s/he walked away. Food came promptly and was enjoyed by everyone. Asked for cracked pepper on my salad and they dropped the grinder on the table - took herculean effort to actually use it and I am a pretty strong guy.
Both salads were very fresh and nicely composed. The burger was tastey and thoroughly enjoyed.
Prices are reasonable for Boulder, The decor could be described as contemporary steakhouse and very new..
I would definitely recommend and go back.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had the calamari and theWe had the calamari and the red pepper soup. I had a duck breast and my wife had the eggplant and the scallop "sharing plates" as her main course. Everything was great. Oak was full and loud. Too loud for our comfort, but friendly service.2/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI sincerely wish I lived inI sincerely wish I lived in Boulder, because I'd quench my thirst for good food and interesting drink here all the time. It's a well-lit but intimate space with immediately attentive service. Drinks are fun and innovative (you MUST try the 14th Street Soda if they have it). Being a seafood lover, the hamachi crudo with passionfruit and the citrus-steamed sea bass were both mind-bending. Desserts were a little more experimental - everything was good, but some of it was a little strange together (ie chocolate ganache with grapefruit-campari sorbet and peanut brittle and lemon-ricotta ... too much going on). Really astoundingly good. Your wallet will complain, but your tastebuds won't.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
