A word from Oak + Almond
Oak and almond wood fuels our wood burning oven and stove. Imparting an earthy quality to many of our menu items, these hardwoods are at the heart of our restaurant's philosophy.

With cuisine inspired by the traditions & techniques of yesteryear, our philosophy is simple: provide delicious handcrafted food, created with well sourced seasonal ingredients with a focus on hearth & flame. We source the best artesian ingredients and prepare them simply with respect. The wine program highlights biodynamic and organic selections, which compliment the simple integrity of our menu.

An 18 foot communal table, crafted from local 100 year old oak floorboards anchors the dining room. Hand-rubbed walnut tables, industrial fixtures, and an open kitchen featuring a wood burning oven and stove provide a modern yet warm dining experience.

Diner Reviews
  • "My experience with the restaurant was different from previous reviewers. I found the food to be acceptable, nothing earth shattering, but tasty and well prepared. My wife enjoyed her hand cut pasta, but found the lobster to be a bit stringy. I would go back, but I don't think I would rush back."

  • "The lobster pasta dish was just ok. Service and atmosphere were fine. The bar had some charm but music very loud. Not overly impressed but I'd give it another try based on the good reviews I've heard. May have been an off night."

  • "was looking for a good brunch place with outdoor seating....after looking at menu, don't think it is really geared towards that. Outdoor dining is nice. Eggs Benedict was a nice twist but was missing some sort of bread, biscuit, etc to soak up the egg and sauce. Have been here before to dinner...seems like there is a lot of potential, but just missing the mark."

  • "Dined here with friends on a Friday night. The patio was great. I was worried about noise because the restaurant is right on rt 7, but it was not an issue at all. Service was very very very slow. The waiter would say he would be back in a second and maybe we would see him in 10 minutes. All the drinks took forever to make there way to the table, but all the food was delivered promptly. I think because it was brought by a food runner. The burrata with figs was amazing. As the warm bread and sweet butter. For such a hip place, we were shocked that the restaurant was closing up shop by 10pm. The bar was empty and we were the last ones on the patio for such a perfect summer night."

  • "Awful service. A shame b/c food was great - the burrata appetizer was delicious and my husband enjoyed his Caesar salad. For our mains, we had the chittara carbonara and the pasta bolognese - both very good. However, our service was terrible. The restaurant was not busy at all, but it took forever to get our food. The waiter was virtually non existent, and at times I felt like he forgot about us all together. He would aimlessly wander around, and at the end of the night, we waited 20 minutes just to get our credit card back. We had to flag down another employee to get some service."

  • "Fun atmosphere and good food. Our group of 6 had a lot of fun, though service was very slow. Our waiter was hard to find....and a lot of time went by between appetizers and main course. We did order the chicken, which we knew would take an extra 25 minutes, but our 3 course dinner took 3 hours."

  • "First time there. Sat outdoors on a early Sunday evening I found the indoors very appealing with a California vibe and would not be disappointed if we had to eat indoors. There is a nice variety of small plates/appetizers, salads, grilled bread/pizza and upscale entrees. My husband ate all of his pasta entree. The pork shoulder which was a nice balance of tender and moist with a slight caramelized crispiness on the outside of the pieces which was topped with a fresh salad. We shared the warm nuts, a delicious salad along with a bowl of cream of cauliflower soup. Gluten free, vegetarian options are noted."

  • "Enjoyed a weeknight dinner with a friend. Food and service were very good. Pepperedelle bolognese was amazing."

  • "I have been here several times but this was a disappointing evening. Server was extremely slow and unorganized. Food came and we had a problem with a dish. The server brought us something different but left the original on the bill - even though there was a large hair in it. At 8:30 pm they put a closed sign on the door and turned people away. Strange night, not sure if it was a one night blip or overall going downhill."

  • "We brought in two prospective clients. The service was attentive and not intrusive. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. The kale salad was delicious and the portion generous. After a great meal, the coffee was a disappointment, as it tasted watery and lacked flavor. That's easy enough to fix. "

  • "This was my third time at the restaurant and the food and service have definitely deteriorated. The dishes we ordered were mediocre and the waiter needed more training. Even the cocktail we ordered was not made properly. All in all it was not a positive experience and we will not be returning. Too bad because the restaurant had so much potential. Also, the restaurant had very few patrons on a Saturday night. Not a good sign."

  • "Service was slow and when we did get our food it was burned and over cooked. I could not believe the chef would allow that dish to leave his kitchen. They were under staffed and the two waiters they did have working were doing their best while the manager sat in a corner on his computer. The table next to us had the same complaint. "

  • "Food and service excellent as always! One member our party has several food allergies and our waiter was so helpful. Make sure to try the Oak + Almond cocktail. It's fantastic!"

  • "Had a party of nine for brunch. John gave exceptional service! The flat breads are fantastic, especially the fungi. Everyone loved the mussels and the burgers with a fried egg were a big hit. Don't miss the signature Oak and Almond drink. Even two non-bourbon drinkers lived it!"

  • "We went to O&A with two other couples, and it was a fantastic dinner for all. The slight smell of wood smoke hit us as soon as we entered the restaurant. It was a warm evening and reminded us of a campfire. Everything was wonderful from cocktails to our entrees. Dessert was slightly disappointing, but only relative to the rest our meal. Siracha wings, charred octopus, and arugula salad were divine. The wood fire grilled burger was one of the best ever eaten, and the shrimp and polenta was wonderful. Our friends from lower Westchester all agreed that they'd absolutely come back to visit any time we were willing to go to O&A!"

  • "Fun restaurant especially for a group. Space is modern but rustic. Our group of 7 sat in a pretty room overlooking a patio. We shared a bunch of apps which were all delicious. .especially the octopus and oysters. Dinner was good too something for everyone. Service was ok..it was pretty slow at the beginning and it took a while to get first round of drinks. It did improve as the night went on and other tables cleared out. Overall experience was really good. ..we will be back. "

  • "Everything about Oak + Almond is excellent from the environment to the bar to the wood oven smell to the fabulous food. Nice variety on the wine list and great offerings by the glass. The bread is made in their wood burning oven and the butter encourages a second piece! Most dishes are farm to table, using local farms whenever they can. The young owners are often around and greet customers and are always willing to offer suggestions on the menu."

  • "we were a group of six at lunchtime on a wednesday . service and food were fabulous. most had the panino with nettles...and they loved it. i had mussels, and the sauce was delisious, but the mussels themselves were small...not the fault of the restaurant. next time i will ask "

  • "I've been to Oak + Almond and found it a very nice, casual dinner. Outside seating in summer is very nice as well."

  • "Didn't give the place a second look until it was the only table we could secure last minute for Easter. Wish we had discovered sooner. The food was excellent with some very interesting takes on classic dishes. The runny soft boiled egg elevated the ceasar salad, and the brussel sprout, bacon and potato hash was an exciting alternative to a dry English muffin as a base for the eggs Benedict. I found the French toast to be over the top, but someone with a real sweet tooth would probably adore it. My daughters grilled cheese sandwich was just what you would expect from a children's menu, plain, but we couldn't stop stealing the delicious fries that came with it. Can't wait to go back."

  • "This was our 2nd time at Oak + Almond. The bartender was helpful, letting my husband sample a few tequilas, and chatty in a good way. With 6 for dinner we were able to sample a bunch of appetizers, the grilled octopus was delicious, tender and well seasoned. The 2 flatbreads we had were also excellent. The highlight was the shrimp and polenta - decadent, but perfectly cooked and so yummy!"

  • "Oak and Almond is a welcome edition to this section of Norwalk. There is not much to choose from in terms of great restaurants and so I am anticipating Oak and Almond to be quite successful. The portions are substantial so it's good value for the money. I was there for lunch and I had one of the flatbreads which is on the appetizer menu and my companion had the soup and sandwich combo which she said was quite delicious. There are a few service kinks that still need to be worked out but in due time I'm sure it will all run seamlessly. I would definitely be returning!"

  • "O and A is a good restaurant because the owner, Jean-Paul, cares about quality. As people who dine out a lot, we know a good place when we see one. Every dish that leaves the beautiful open kitchen is checked by Jean-Paul and the wait staff is actively managed as they deliver it. The food is very good. The menu changes often so you can keep going back for old favorites or new dishes. The dining room is large but the tables are spaced well. The noise level is normal--you can have a conversation easily. You gotta put this place on your list of best places to eat often--the prices are very good too."

  • "My first visit to Oak + Almond was quite nice - it has been updated inside and is airy, open and modern. Comfortable seating - easy to have a business conversation without the table next to you being included. Warm olives were excellent! Salmon was cooked to perfection but a bit pricy for 1 piece of salmon on some small but delicious winter root veggies w/nice mild sauce. $21 though...would be better at $17-ish. Others had the burger - said it was amazing (we shared his fries-awesome!). Other diner had kitchen sink salad w/grilled shrimp was quite good. Wonderful, friendly and attentive staff."

  • "Dinner with old friends was divine at Oak and Almond. Their menu left me wishing I could order 5 of each category. Everything came out with a wonderful open fire taste - maybe also because we looked right into the kitchen with its open hearth ovens. It was our first time and our friends' first, too. We all agreed to come back soon. Our Lebanese friend consumed his Haloumi cheese with a smile and my husband agreed his grilled octopus was just right."

  • "This place is very good and consistent. The food is well prepared and farm to table quality. Its not like all the of the other places nearby. The owner, Jean-Paul is always there and actually working in the kitchen and on the floor. Try it and love it."

  • "Met a friend for lunch recently and you are transformed once you walk thru the door. The smell of the wood oven and the welcoming host makes you forget that you are on rt. 7 next to the DMV. The menu had lots of options and we were not disappointed by our choice of mussels with pommes frites and the daily grilled cheese with a cup of soup. Can't wait to go back and try dinner."

  • "Originally attended in their first 2 weeks. Service was spotty but the food was great and the cocktails were good and overall a good value. Chalked up service to getting the place open and everyone on the same page. Flash forward 10 months. Service still spotty and this time the cocktails were inconsistent. Our waiter was friendly but somehow he lost the flow of the meal. Even the bus staff knew it, tried to help but it wasn't his job. Topping it off, our entrees were forgotten, finally the manager picked it up and told us they were 'just coming out'. 1 hour and 35 minutes after starting our order our food finally arrived. It was luke warm and totally forgettable. The only entree that was close to a good effort was my daughters burger."

  • "A usual spot for us, we've noted changes in management and the menu have brought about an elevation in the overall quality of the offerings. Open Table is great, I requested a special table by the fireplace, and we got it, on the most romantic holiday of the year ;) Overall the restaurant is great. We were served the wrong items for an appetizer and entre, but the waitress handled the error with grace and humor and made things right. In fact, we were glad at having the opportunity to experience another dish. Mistakes happen, wasn't a big deal for us. Service is always very good, they have a great patio also for warmer weather which is great for both lunch and evenings, and they have an indoor and outdoor fireplace. Highly recommended."

  • "We chose Oak & Almond based on our daughter and her boyfriends recommendation. Simply the menu is interesting. Appetizers were good but main courses were bland. The Meatballs were very good. The Roast chicken was ordinary and the Bolognese lacked any distinct flavor. We may go back and try some other choices but won't be running back. The service was very good, we sat close to the oven so the occasional discussion between chefs provided some entertainment."

  • "This is a very large restaurant but the design is made to feel "cozy" based on table arrangement and the two lovely real fireplaces that create a glow throughout. There is an interesting menu with lots of different choices from a gourmet burger to fancier fare. The quality of food is quite good and presentation is impressive such as the salt bed under the oysters. Good wine selection at reasonable mark-ups."

  • "Six of us met for dinner on Monday night after work to try something new! The menu has a great cross section of tastes and the server did an excellent job to explain the dishes and appetizers! Loved the muscles and the grilled octopus starters! Organic chicken with winter root veggies looked yummy and the burger was huge! The wood burning oven added a nice cozy warm ambiance too! Will go back!"
