  • "O-Ku is one of our favorite restaurants in Charleston. The food is wonderful!"

  • "Restaurant was busy but not completely full at the time of our reservation. Service was terrible. It took forever to place our order and once the order was placed the first course of soup arrived 15 minutes later and it was cold. Took another 15 to 20 minutes to get a hot bowl of soup. Wait time for the rest of the meal was ridiculous. The sushi was good but not outstanding as it had been on frequent visits. Not sure I'd go back. Noise level so high you had to shout to be heard across the table."

  • "My husband, Bob and I absolutely love O-Ku!!!! It is one of our favorite restaurants here in Charleston!!!!"
    Dined on 4/9/2014
  • "This is a great all-around restaurant. I have eaten at many restaurants in Charleston, and this is one of the few with great food that is affordable. The service was excellent as well as the food. I will definitely return."

  • "Food was good not great. Service was excellent... I hope you get the same great waitress we had - knowledgable and checking on us frequently but not intruding. Atmosphere was nice and overall experience was good for dinner."

  • "My boyfriend and I came in for happy hour Friday night and was pleasantly please to find out that it was 1/2 off sushi rolls, a special they do M, W, and F during happy hour. We had a great time sitting at the sushi bar!! The food was incredible, the cocktails were creative, the service was excellent, and making a reservation directly from the website was very convenient. This downtown experience was a memorable one and we will definitely be back!! Thank you O-Ku."

  • "The whole resturaunt was really noisy, and the table that we were at was one of tr high ones where our knees were really close to the table, and that made it sort of uncomfortable. Also the bar was really close and the groups that were standing up behind us were almost yelling, so it was really loud. The food was great though."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "Paid $28 for two rolls of sushi. The spicy tuna roll was prepared wrong and we waited over 35 mins for just two rolls. There were only 5 other tables in the entire place. The waiter was terrible and hardly checked on us."

  • "The decor was tasteful and interesting. We had a wonderful server who steered us in the right direction by making very good recommendations . It can be somewhat confusing know what to order I when it comes to Sushi, but we had no problem and everything was delicious. The best I have ever had. This place was recommended by a local and I would go back any time I'm in Charleston and will tell all my friends to do the same. Great food and great service."

  • "Wonderful food in a vibrant atmosphere. Large menu with something for everyone. Sushi rolls were exquisite, but the various appetizers we tried were amazing, from the spring rolls and rock creek shrimp to the yellowtail carpaccio and tuna tartare. Extensive sake list. Great evening not to be missed. We'll go back soon! A delight was our chance to talk with the manager Kimball."

  • "This sushi restaurant was very good. Not being total sushi fans it was an experiment. We had Salmon tartar that was excellent, and several assorted cold plates the weakest dish being the yellow tail with serrano chilis, the chili's were very mild so the dish lacked punch. The sushi rolls were excellent, a mild salmon lemon was light and lovely. The crab and crispy oyster excellent."

  • "Joshua was or waiter and probably one of the best we have ever had anywhere! All the staff that waited on us were highly trained. Excellent service, really know the menu. Expensive but worth it."

  • "My first two visits to O-Ku were for drinks and appetizers so this was my first time for dinner with my wife. We both loved it; the ambience, the professional, though not overbearing attentiveness of the staff, the food and the lively and hip nature of the guests. O-Ku is definitely "in the rotation" for us going forward. Living in Charleston can cause you begin taking great food and service for granted. O-Ku, and their non-stop floor manager and gracious hostesses, helped me remember that restaurants like O-Ku are a cut above and not to be taken for granted."

  • "We decided to try O-Ku for the first time with guests and are extremely glad we did. The menu is very creative and every item was delicious. The atmosphere is vibrant and intriguing at the same time. . Highly recommend you try it."

  • "We had two reservations at two different restaurants and had to make a decision for my daughters birthday. We cancelled the right one 24 hours ahead of time and ended up with fantastic, smiling service from all staff. Water stayed refilled. Hot tea was hot... but wish they had the real loose leaf tea, perhaps Blue People from Chinatown! All the sushi, sashimi and salads were delicious! I did not love the tuna tartare-- oddly, I think the sushi chef at Yamato of all places, is a genius with this stuff so I am spoiled. The birthday girl was treated like a queen and everything else as perfect! They brought us a special complimentary appetizer AND DESSERT! The fish was fresh and presentation, beautiful. We will go back, for sure."

  • "We continue to be impressed with the sushi quality and service. We've had sushi in many US cities and believe O-Ku easily comes out on top for quality, presentation and taste. The salmon lemon roll is to die for!"

  • "We love O-Ku!!! Everyone takes good care of you and so friendly!! The duck legs were wonderful and the sushi was the best!!!"

  • "We have brought out daughter to O-Ku 2 times for her birthday. Of course this is a special occasion. Both time I felt we got special treatment. Once with a complimentary tuna roll and the second time with special chop sticks for my husband Nice touches!"

  • "I would recommend this restaurant for more of the atmosphere than the food. Service was excellent, but not the spot to go for amazing grade sushi. Very modern and had a good atmosphere for work or play for happy hour."
    Dined on 3/12/2014
  • "My husband and I love a good sushi bar and this surpassed our expectations. Amazing food, outstanding service, cool decor, no complaints here. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "Delicious unique sushi. We liked sashimi tacos and harvest rolls. Salmon lemon roll was very fresh and clean tasting. The cocktails were amazing. I had a vodka with fresh strawberries and basil that was so tasty! My husbands bourbon with fig and orange peel was wonderful as well."
    Dined on 2/27/2014
  • "Wish it wasn't so loud, it was hard to hear each other or the wait staff. Other than that, the food and drinks are top of the line delicious and the management is above and beyond!"

  • "We were fortunate to get weekend reservations for 6:30pm one day ahead, and both ordered the Lobster Bisque and Scallop Entrée, which were delicious! The atmosphere was energetic with a dimly lit décor of contemporary Asian beautifully framed oversized mirrors and large lamp shades."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "Loved the atmosphere! Food was great, server very knowledgable about menu. Cold plate items are unique and delicious."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "The food and service are top notch. Although the food takes awhile to prepare and arrive, it was well worth the wait. The only downside to the restaurant is the noise level as it is difficult to have a conversation with others at your table. However, I will go back again."

  • "O-Ku has become one of our favorite restaurants in Charleston. We love everything about this restaurant. It never disappoints."

  • "O-Ku has become a standard for us. They have never failed to pease, whether it is just I and my partner for a romatic dinner or a large group such as our latest visit. The food again made everyone happy, and the service was stellar as always. They somehow have a way of making you feel like you are in your own private dining room even when sitting in the middle of a bustling restaurant. Can't wait for our next visit."

  • "Great food; pretty good sake selection; and good service though food came pretty slow, but were content to hear that pork belly appetizer took extra time to prepare. It was certainly worth it: AMAZING!!@!!"

  • "We travelled in to town to take our son to dinner for his birthday, we reserved the table based on Open Table recommendations. We arrived early and Lindsey was our server. She was very responsive but did not rush us as at all. She and the manager gave numerous recommendations and all of them were excellent. Even though we did not order dessert Lindsey brought out a dessert with a candle to celebrate my son's 22nd birthday. It is now my son's favorite new restaurant!"

  • "Loud music, cannot hear a thing, dark room cannot see, slow service and warm beer. Great food, but I rather go to the local japaenese place near our house. Not worth the price."

  • "This is a fun and comfortable place with an excellent menu! Our food, the service, and the atmosphere made for another outstanding dining experience in Charleston."

  • "The drinks are a great start to describe this experience. They are mixing up some cocktails that can take you to another place. Lobster bisque was out of this world. Awesome...awesome!!"

  • "If you like Sushi, this is a MUST for when you are visiting Charleston, Some favorites are Lemon Salmon, Avocado, Tuna rolls, but they all are superb."

  • "O Ku has exceptional sushi/Japanese food combined with very good service. The restaurant is dark and VERY loud. It is obviously the trendy, in spot for young professionals. It is also a bit pricey, but the quality is worth it. My one major criticism is the saki is served cold. They will heat it for you, but you have to ask and it takes a while for them to get it back to you. If you are intimidated by noise and lots of tipsy 30 somethings, this place is probably not for you. I would also not take a child to O Ku."

  • "Stopped in for dinner during a weekend visit to Charleston. Our party of 3 included a non-adventerous eating 14 year old. We ordered several appetizers, an entree and 3 sushi rolls. All of the food was fantastic...and the Tempura Oysters even solicited a taste from the 14 year old. The service was appropriate given the size of the dinner crowd. As out of town visitors from Wisconsin, we shared some football ribbing with our waiter as he was originally from Minnesota. He surprised us with a complementary appetizer consisting of green peppers and yellow sauce. Not bad for a Vikings fan. All in all our time at O-Ku was a good experience and one of our favourite memories from our weekend in Charleston."

  • "This was our first time dining at O-ku and we went with friends who also had never been there. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and drink. The flavors were fantastic and the wine paired exquisitely with it. The only drawback was that it was during Happy Hour and the "lounge" area was pretty noisy with no separation between it and the first tables. If you were seated at a table in the back of the restaurant, it was probably less noisy but we weren't so it was noisy. We will go back again but we will make sure it isn't during Happy Hour."

  • "Really like this place, great sushi. On the expensive side, but enjoyable scene for a younger crowd, and good for dates. Only complaint was the service was pretty slow, took 2 hours for dinner and drinks for 2, but our server was competent and they were busy. Overall a good experience."
