A word from Nuvolari's
In January of 1982 after establishing Jacmel Inn, a fine dining restaurant, and Brady’s Grill and Bar in Hammond, Hoot Owl owners Paul Murphy and Rick Colucci along with Mandeville native Wallace Simmons took over the lease of the former Prieto Dry Goods store on Girod street in Mandeville. Paul, Rick and Wallace completely remodeled the interior on their own with a vision to bring a classical New York style dining room to the quiet North Shore town. The extensive remodeling was an example of keeping the unique New Orleans style structure outside intact while creating a rich restaurant experience inside.

Upon entering the foyer of Nuvolari's, you can tell that a unique restaurant lies before you. Rich hues of wood and soft lighting create an aura of sophistication that relaxes patrons and prepares them for a wonderful dining experience.

This one of a kind architecture, consistently superb cuisine and wonderful staff make Nuvolari's a true dining experience!

  • "My wife and I went to celebrate our 7th anniversary and it was wonderful. We were slightly late due to a very heavy rain storm but that didn't matter. Upon being seated the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our severer was very knowledgeable of the specials of the day and the menu items. We order the escargot and crawfish appetizer is was wonderful. I also order the tomato basil soup which was very good. For our entree my wife order the grilled mahi mahi with crabmeat and I order the paneed veal alfrado which also very good."

  • "I've heard mixed reviews on this place and had to go and check it out for myself. Fittingly enough, my experience was also mixed. We had reservations for 7 o'clock but were not seated until after 7:30 -- I've never had that happen in my life. But what accentuated the wait was that the restaurant staff did not act like it was anything out of the ordinary or apologize at all. All it takes is for the staff to make a little fuss over you and then you don't mind the wait so much. My father owned a restaurant so I know how things work a little bit; I finally went to the bar and asked if we could have a glass of wine on the house while we waited -- still that should've been something the hostess offered after the first ten minutes or so past 7:00."

  • "We really enjoyed the dishes here. The wine list was great with a nice variety. The menu offered a little something for everyone. We had the oyster appetizer with Brie and they were perfect. For our entrees we had the grouper special and the Ponchatoula strawberry salad. Both were excellent. I notice their make servers were in non-traditional attire; khakis and button downs with no apron. It just didn't appear professional. Our server also struggled with the wine presentation, which isn't a huge deal to us but may be to others. For dessert we had the creme brûlée and the tiramisu cannolis. The latter left a lot to be desired. Overall the food and service were good and we definitely plan to eat there again."

They have changed over the years from a very nice Italian Restaurant into a very special gourmet restaurant with a very nice bar to have before dinner drinks with nice folks. This place is a real looker and never seemed like just another restaurant in the entire time that I have been a customer. We always have this place in mind [along with sister restaurant Jacmels in Hammond] whenever we want a very special evening. Great, great place to have a fine time dining out."

  • "The food was absolutely delicious and the ambience was outstanding. For the number of people in the restaurant and bar area, it was rather quiet. Our waiter (I believe his name was Wallace) was very helpful, polite and did everything to provide a wonderful dining experience, in spite of the fact that the restaurant managed to run out of three items that our party tried to order. Our reservation was for 7:30 P.M., and when we ordered our appetizer, they had run out of the eggplant dish. Then when we ordered dessert, they were out of the Death by Chocolate dessert as well as the White Chocolate Cheesecake. I am so glad we did not have a later reservation! However, I must add that we will definitely return to our new favorite restaurant."

I was so pleased the owner of my guesthouse had recommended them. I would have to say, without any exageration, that it was one of the three best meals I have ever had. Very memorable. I started with Fried oysters and then had the shrimp/scallop pasta with creamy brandy sauce. Absolutely mouthwatering. Excellent service and ambience. Cannot recommend highly enough. Go and try it for yourself. .."

  • "I let the staff know ahead of time it was our anniversary. They gave us a great table and everyone knew ahead of time about our event and wished us Happy Anniversary. Service was outstanding. Andy was extremely attentive without being intrusive. Good sense of humor and very respectful. Food was awesome as usual. Perhaps portions might have been a tad larger but on my diet they were probably right where they needed to be! Highly recommend this romantic well established and beautiful restaurant."
