A word from Nuvolari's
In January of 1982 after establishing Jacmel Inn, a fine dining restaurant, and Brady’s Grill and Bar in Hammond, Hoot Owl owners Paul Murphy and Rick Colucci along with Mandeville native Wallace Simmons took over the lease of the former Prieto Dry Goods store on Girod street in Mandeville. Paul, Rick and Wallace completely remodeled the interior on their own with a vision to bring a classical New York style dining room to the quiet North Shore town. The extensive remodeling was an example of keeping the unique New Orleans style structure outside intact while creating a rich restaurant experience inside.

Upon entering the foyer of Nuvolari's, you can tell that a unique restaurant lies before you. Rich hues of wood and soft lighting create an aura of sophistication that relaxes patrons and prepares them for a wonderful dining experience.

This one of a kind architecture, consistently superb cuisine and wonderful staff make Nuvolari's a true dining experience!

  • "Food and service were outstanding as always. This is easily one of the best restaurants on the Northshore."

  • "One of my favoite restaurants on the North Shore. Food and service are excellent and consistant. Their grilled fish is one of my favorites. Atmosphere is relaxed and inviting without distracting background noise. We dine here several times a month with friends and catch up with each others lives. My wife has Celiac Disease and can't eat gluten. They have always been able to accommodate her with excellent choices and have modified their menu when possible."

  • "Went in for the 20 dollar special but got the pan-roasted fish instead...it was delicious and worth the extra bucks! Drank the house wine and it was quite nice."

  • "Food is consistently delicious, with fresh local seafood available, as well as Italian fare. The grouper was pan-seared, fresh, and delicious, and beautifully plated. Appetizer of fried oysters Brie was very good. Attentive staff, as always with Nuvolari's. Great ambience and good bar. Dining at Nuvolari's has always been a lovely experience for me, and continues to be. A neighborhood restaurant, just a couple of blocks from the lakefront. I feel the value is exceeded only by the quality of food and service, and I have never been disappointed."

  • "Since moving to Covington in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina, my husband and I were looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate our anniversary which is in June. We chose Nuvolari's and have been going there every year since for our anniversary! We love the food, the service, and the ambience. Our favorite dessert is DBC (Death by Chocolate) and our favorite after dinner drink is Café Nuvolari!!"

  • "We selected Nuvolari's for our anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. We started at the bar where the bartenders were friendly and attentive. Once we were seated our server quickly visited our table. The bread was hot every time it was brought. The salads and calamari were excellent. Our steaks were cooked to our liking and the Gouda gratin was very tasty. Very enjoyable evening."

  • "The food was very good with great presentation. The grouper was very fresh and tasted wonderful. I prefer the ceasers salad to the tomato basil soup. We did not try any appetizers this time, but have had them in the past and they were great. We really enjoyed the carrot cake for desert. We are looking forward to our next visit."

  • "I have never had a bad experience here. The food is outstanding, ambience is great and the staff is well trained and courteous. Nuvolari's has become my "go to" restaurants when entertaining out of town guests. "

  • "My husband and I decided to take our daughter and her boyfriend out for dinner on Mother's Day. We arrived at the restaurant with reservations but we were not seated right away. We were told they were busier than they thought they would be. The appetizer was very good. I ordered the duck, which is not usually a dish I order. It was a little tough for my taste. Over all the atmosphere was good, however there was a table of very loud ladies sitting right next to us. I would visit this restaurant again and order something different. "

  • "My wife and I took my mother and father in law out to dinner here. We really enjoyed our meal at Nuvolaris. We particularly enjoyed the Calimari appetizer, the fried oyster appetizer and the Chargrilled Mahi Mahi over wild rice. Also we received Excellent and attentive service. "

  • "My husband and I eat at a lot of fine dining restaurants, but we enjoyed the food. Italian and not your usual, more homemade. Interior made me feel back in time, like I was in an old train or paddle boat. They said it had been there for 30 years. "

  • "The food was absolutely delicious. My only complaint (and this is a mild one) was that my caprese salad was not served in a traditional manner. It was heirloom cherry tomatoes, mozzarella pearls and red onion placed on a bed of greens, tossed with a blue cheese viniagrette, with a chiffonade of basil on top. It was made more interesting by the addition of balsamic 'pearls' on the salad. However tasty, I would have preferred the traditional, simple presentation where I can taste the individual flavors. The dressing masked the freshness and sweetness of the ingredients. I missed the drizzle of olive oil. "

  • "My wife and I went to celebrate our 7th anniversary and it was wonderful. We were slightly late due to a very heavy rain storm but that didn't matter. Upon being seated the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our severer was very knowledgeable of the specials of the day and the menu items. We order the escargot and crawfish appetizer is was wonderful. I also order the tomato basil soup which was very good. For our entree my wife order the grilled mahi mahi with crabmeat and I order the paneed veal alfrado which also very good."

  • "I've heard mixed reviews on this place and had to go and check it out for myself. Fittingly enough, my experience was also mixed. We had reservations for 7 o'clock but were not seated until after 7:30 -- I've never had that happen in my life. But what accentuated the wait was that the restaurant staff did not act like it was anything out of the ordinary or apologize at all. All it takes is for the staff to make a little fuss over you and then you don't mind the wait so much. My father owned a restaurant so I know how things work a little bit; I finally went to the bar and asked if we could have a glass of wine on the house while we waited -- still that should've been something the hostess offered after the first ten minutes or so past 7:00."

  • "We really enjoyed the dishes here. The wine list was great with a nice variety. The menu offered a little something for everyone. We had the oyster appetizer with Brie and they were perfect. For our entrees we had the grouper special and the Ponchatoula strawberry salad. Both were excellent. I notice their make servers were in non-traditional attire; khakis and button downs with no apron. It just didn't appear professional. Our server also struggled with the wine presentation, which isn't a huge deal to us but may be to others. For dessert we had the creme brûlée and the tiramisu cannolis. The latter left a lot to be desired. Overall the food and service were good and we definitely plan to eat there again."

  • "My friends and I visited this restaurant on a busy Saturday night. Our table was ready 20 minutes before our reservation, which was nice considering many of us were early! The food was great, and our wine glass never seemed to remain empty very long."

  • "Great dinner at Nuvolari's tonight. Service from Andy and Katie was exemplary. Food was excellent; we had the salmon entree and the lasagna. Very nice atmosphere. While we brought our own bottle of wine, we saw Dave, the bar manager, giving top-notch attention and recommendations to nearby tables needing wine advice."

  • "Nuvolari's has never let me down, and I have been a customer since the year that they opened. They have changed over the years from a very nice Italian Restaurant into a very special gourmet restaurant with a very nice bar to have before dinner drinks with nice folks. This place is a real looker and never seemed like just another restaurant in the entire time that I have been a customer. We always have this place in mind [along with sister restaurant Jacmels in Hammond] whenever we want a very special evening. Great, great place to have a fine time dining out."

  • "We had read the reviews and decided to take a chance. I am so glad we did. The food was outstanding. The service, including our waiter, was on point. The atmosphere was wonderful! Would highly recommend!"

  • "Despite a good recommendation from a friend, the dining experience was unsatisfactory. The first table we were given was in between a second dining room and the kitchen and felt like we were in a runway. While the staff placed at us at another table upon our request, it was done grudgingly. It took a long time for our food to arrive and when it arrived, it was cold. I will however give the manager credit for comping one meal."

  • "The food was absolutely delicious and the ambience was outstanding. For the number of people in the restaurant and bar area, it was rather quiet. Our waiter (I believe his name was Wallace) was very helpful, polite and did everything to provide a wonderful dining experience, in spite of the fact that the restaurant managed to run out of three items that our party tried to order. Our reservation was for 7:30 P.M., and when we ordered our appetizer, they had run out of the eggplant dish. Then when we ordered dessert, they were out of the Death by Chocolate dessert as well as the White Chocolate Cheesecake. I am so glad we did not have a later reservation! However, I must add that we will definitely return to our new favorite restaurant."
