Diner Reviews
  • "Try the Duck Confit has with fried eggs. It was delicious."

  • "This was a memorable experience. It was our third trip but we usually sit in the bar area only. The restaurant overlooks the water , starting off your visit with a calm demeanor. Our waiter, Michael, was very professional and knowledgable about the wine and food offered on the Brunch menu. The food is always great and you will not be disappointed but the desserts are Divine! Try the Eastern oysters Rockafeller!"

  • "The staff's attention to detail is impeccable. Exquisite food, and stellar service. Not only will we be back, we will recommended Number 13 without hesitation, and often!"

  • "Yes, it is pricey, but the food is outstanding. Rudy & Paco's has held the crown for years as the best restaurant in Galveston but I think they have some serious competition with Number 13. I don't know if they will continue to draw crowds with such high prices for steak but in the meantime the mussel appetizer is big enough as an entree if you want a light dinner and they are the best I've had on the island and almost anywhere. The broth is superb. Be sure to ask for a spoon! And the setting is the best in town with the view of the marina. "

  • "Brought wife with friends to eat for our 42 wedding anniversary, because we have tried to eat here ever since it opened. I was very disappointed the 16 oz New York strip I order medium rare was not a good steak(compared to Rudy and Pacos, papas steakhouse, Perry's or even Saltgrass)the sides were also bad the creamed Spanish was pulsed to baby food consistency with no cream or Parmesan cheese, the au gate potatoes s we're very bland and the wedge salad was very small and didn't even have a good presentation, the service was wasn't nothing special had to ask for bread then butter then refills on tea ,the manager had to come over and ask what our drink order was the server got it wrong, the place is very nice ,need to hire a chef and manager"

  • "absolute gem. we needed a place of this quality on the island."

  • "My wife and I had brunch at Number 13 on Sunday. The food, the service, and the view were outstanding. It was a new brunch menu with numerous selections. The meal could not have been better. There also was a Bloody Mary bar with all the condiments to create your own that was a lot of fun. It was not very crowded but I suspect as word gets out that may not last long."

  • "Steak was ok but over priced. Side dish mushroom was so salty that couldn't finish. Bread was great."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Dined with a larger group of 6. Service was excellent and all the dishes were fabulous, particularly the red snapper and the wild foraged mushrooms."

  • "First visit to this restaurant. Lovely setting. Had the special --sea bass which was excellent."

  • "A great combination of food and ambiance with one of the best views of the water while eating in Galveston...A great atmosphere, casual elegance overlooking the marina...food was outstanding...particularly found the charcuterie plate excellent with a blueberry infused venison sausage ....the jonah crab claws had an outstanding mustard sauce ...bone marrow and crab really set each other off well...excellent french fries, really nicely done...service was friendly and efficient...will return many times"

  • "When I made reservations, I mentioned that I would be celebrating my friend's birthday with her. The manager brought a nice sized taste of a great wine before we even ordered our meal. He later brought my friend a glass of wine to pair with her meal. Our waiter was exceptional... very attentive."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "Just like other reviews. The attitude of our server was one of negativity as well as the people that greeted us when we walked in. They try way to hard to make the food unique and different. I have eaten in many fine restaurants and often return. Not this one."

  • "While in no particular hurry, lunch consumed the better part of 2 hrs...and, we were the only diners there. Great for Special occasions but I seriously doubt if many Islanders can afford an $80+ meal...and, this was with only 1 glass of house wine ($19). This was my second time there. The other occasion was dinner at nite. Stil have some growning pains. Excellent place...but NOT worth value charged."

  • "I'm always leery of steak houses to see how one will out do the other but Number 13 did not disappoint. I was in from Chicago for the week (meca of steak houses) and decided to try it out. Chicago can take a lesson from this place. It's all in the details... Butter ramekins, sauce ramekins, knife selection, quality of stemware, perfectly executed and thoughtful dishes, selection of fruit for water, warm popovers for bread service, great wine selection, etc. The nautical theme showed character throughout the dining room with fish hooks creatively adorning the menu and also hooks holding back the curtains. Impressive details...and with many steak houses to choose from, it has to be about the details to set oneself apart. I was impressed."

  • "Even though the food was excellent (steak did have a little too much fat), for the price sides should be included. Great service and awesome view. This would be a good place to dine outdoors if it was a little warmer."

  • "We had to repeatedly ask for bread and the check. Wait staff was group talking in a corner. The glass of Pinot Noir did not even taste like Pinot Noir. Prices per glass were exorbitant! However the complimentary champagne we had was excellent. Menu for side dishes was confusing."

  • "For a relatively new restaurant, the service was fine-tuned, attentive and friendly. Wine list was interesting, and wine service very good. Food was good, but I expect more at these prices. We ordered the fig salad, but were told figs were out of season and would be replaced with lobster. Unfortunately, the lobster was cold and fishy-tasting (probably cooked the day before?). I ordered the NY strip, but they were out of the wet-aged selection. I ordered the more expensive dry-aged, which was cooked well, but not what I was looking for."

  • "Enjoyed the restaurant, but the food was pretty average, which was disappointing at that price point. Interestingly the sides were much better than the entrées."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "The food was very good, the staff seemed relaxed and professional, very personable. The room and view were both superb, they may want to rethink the placement of the musicians for the outdoor veranda right outside the door. A good 30amp service line more out upon the veranda will make an excellent power feed for most club bands and keep the blast effect through the door a bit more bearable every time someone comes or goes. We will be coming back, good food."

  • "Took my hubby for his birthday! Service was incredible! We shared a HUGE porterhouse steak that was cooked to perfection!"

  • "This was my 3rd time at Number 13 & I have recommended it to many friends. Great romantic place for a couple or quiet for visiting with friends. We will definitely be back."

  • "As a new restaurant with these prices the manager should be on site for brunch. We started with arriving and they didn't even look for our open table reservation. Next, we were only given the very short breakfast menu before we saw that the table next to us had different food and we asked for the full menu. The waiter said yes of course but we had to push for it. Next we ordered drinks that took almost 15 minutes to get to us, because the waiter said they had a computer glitch...WHAT! A computer glitch caused my drink to take so long. Overall no one came to us to check up, including the front door staff, and the restaurant was empty. I'd give this one a few more months to see if they survive before wasting $350 like I did."

  • "The best on the island!!! Superior ratings all across the board in my opinion!!!"

  • "It is sad to see a restaurant with so much potential making so many mistakes. Wait staff is horrendous. Obviously no training program in effect other than having their one competent server, Blake, try to shepherd all the untrained. Cocktail and wine menus are awkward and oversized - perfect for knocking over glasses. The food is good, but gimmicky and trying too hard to please foodies. A $50 steak should pair with a simple green salad, not a chopped salad with meat . Salad choices were poor. We ordered medium rare, but steak was closer to well done. If we order another round of wine as the food is served, shouldn't it arrive promptly rather than after the meal? They just don't get it."

  • "My wife and I came here for our anniversary dinner and number 13 did not let us down. Te service was GREAT! The food was also very good. The staff bent over backwards to try and make the evening special for my wife and I and we very much appreciated it. We have already recommended number 13 to our friends and family and will continue to sing the praises of this great restaurant! On a side note... Music selection was alittle off"

  • "Only 8 people in the restaurant the service was very slow, this was a gem when it opened every time with go back it gets worse so sad was looking forward to having a good steak house in Galveston."

  • "This was my first time at this enticing cove. Our server, Mackenzie, was such a eloquent joy and oh so wonderful. The red snapper was awesome, the creamed spinach-great, their wine selection is on a grand scale and the desserts top off our dinner."

  • "My wife had eaten here previously with friends and really enjoyed the food. After hearing about it for over a month we went together for a late Valentine 's date night. It was excellent and lived up to her accolades. Great service, beautiful view, and wonderful food. Possibly the best in Galveston."

  • "Wanted this to be like the Dallas 5 star restaurants but missed the mark. Waiter was slow and food was good but not exceptional. Moon over the water was excellent for atmosphere. Will eventually be top notch but for now progressing."

  • "My wife and daughter and I loved all the food at Number 13. This is a top quality, fine restaurant, but not everything on the menu is expensive. I was in the mood for a burger; their gourmet burger wowed me and was reasonably priced. We were at Number 13 early, and the service was a tad slow, but still good. At night, we later noticed, the blue lights on the building are visible from far across the bay. We enioyed Number 13 far better than more expensive restaurants in downtown Houston! Check it out."

  • "They made it past the learning curve and this young staff has it together. Not sold on "Dry Aged" still prefer prime steakes. Fabulous atmosphere makes it a destination restaurant. Will return on a Saturday night in the Summer to see Moody Gardens Fireworks Show from Terrace."

  • "Went there for Valentines dinner. They had a special menu that you could order, which we did. Everything was delicious! The porterhouse was excellant, very tender and seasoned well. Will definatley be going back. There is outside seating for the summer which will be beautiful!"

  • "Let me start by saying we had an amazing meal and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The entire experience was a little laid back compared to the prices and the experience we were expecting. Like I said the food was amazing, but when other patrons are wearing sweat pants or shorts and the wait staff has a uniform that calls for jeans..... We had 5:30 reservations and the place was empty when we arrived. As we were being taken to our table we asked if we could get a window table and we were informed that you must 'request that when making a reservation' ?!?!. I'm no prude and we're not royalty but eating at Pappas Steakhouse would be money better spent if you're truly looking for an intimate experience where service is 5 star."
