A word from Nougatine at Jean Georges
Nougatine is the more casual sister of Jean-Georges, with a very lively bar scene at night. The restaurant attracts a mix of celebrities, socialites, and movers and shakers in the business world. Adjacent to the formal Jean-Georges dining room, Nougatine serves the signature and seasonal dishes of Chef Jean-Georges for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, 365 days a year. The menu is more casual than that offered at Jean-Georges but still market driven, utilizing only the freshest and finest ingredients. In addition to providing gorgeous views of Central Park, the newly renovated dining room by Thomas Juul-Hansen features a bustling, immaculate open kitchen. Tones of brown and cream mingle to create an elegant space that is soothing by day and exciting by night. Nougatine offers a prix-fixe lunch menu Monday through Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. Pre- and post-theater prix-fixe menus are available Sunday through Friday from 5:30 to 6 p.m., and from 10 to 11 p.m.Continued
Diner Reviews
  • "NOT a great experience. Very disappointing, overall. Nothing horrible, but not a thing I'd rave about, either. I'd skip this one & head back to Ai Fiori, instead..."

  • "Love coming to the Nougatine Room, but tend to make it just for the bargain restaurant week dinner. The food was really great tasting, and appropriate choices for a hot summer - loved the yoghurt soup -and the flounder... restaurant was very full - staff was everywhere, but that night not too coordinated. Our server was good - friendly and helpful as was the Som, but the bread/water service was a bit of a hit or miss. RUN here for the great food - and ambience if you can get a reservation during Restaurant Week - you snagged a great deal."

  • "Terrific food quality, gracious and attentive service, and pleasing ambiance -- can't beat all that in a $25 Restaurant Week lunch!"

  • "My elderly friend arrived 10 min early for the reservation and was directed to the adjoining hotel lobby to wait. I arrived 5 min early, was given no notice of my friend waiting and was told a table would be ready soon. When I went out to the street to look for him he must have entered the dining room, though the staff did not advise him I checked in. When I went to the reception desk, I see my friend already sitting inside, not pleased I was late The Food-cucumber yogurt soup was VERY salty, making a jarring note with the lovely raspberries. The flounder was salty/acidic. The blueberry angelfood tasted a little like the muffins from the coffee cart. Paid cash, change was $10 short, mistake corrected and apologized. Still, won't be back."

  • "Food was good. We did not at all like the location of our table in proximity to a neighboring table. It was so tight we had to move the table for my wife to get out of her seat. This absolutely killed the conversation for us and somewhat ruined the dining experience. When you pay that much for a special dinner you want it to be perfect!!!!"

  • "Nougatine by Jean Georges is a wonderful choice for Lunch/Brunch on a Sunday. The Prix Fixe menu is wonderful and certainly a great deal for a New York Lunch by a Five Start Chef. The portions are just right and the value is unsurpassed. So bring your date to impress him or her and just don't show them the bill and they will be really pleased with you."

  • "My wife and I truly enjoyed our pre-show dinner. Even with my food allergies the chef prepared the chicken beautifully and my wife thoroughly enjoyed the lobster burger. All of the food was excellent and the service was great. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "Great for pre theatre at Lincoln Center. Lobster burger was chock ful of lobster and delicious. Dessert of chocolate cake was the gooiest best I've had. Service was attentive and caring. Will definitely return."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants. I often meet people here for lunch as the setting is sophisticated but not stuffy and the views are wonderful. I always ask for a table by the window when I make a reservation and this request has always been honored. The food is always delicious, creative, and contains first-rate ingredients. It's a wonderful pre-theature venue for us as well as we are often at Lincoln Center. The prix fixe options are a real bargain and one can also have a very light meal here and not feel uncomfortable (e.g., "just" a hamburger). Jean Georges is often here as well, which adds to the ambience."

  • "Used to love coming here and this was my first time back in quite a few years. Still feels special, still feels exclusive, and all an experience, but the food... Very mediocre. My veal was fried and really had no taste. The tuna tartare was over powered by the sweet and tangy ginger sauce. The fois gras brule was good and so were the cocktails. For $200 you expect more. If it's mediocre food and an experience you're looking for, I'd rather go to asiate. Bit disappointed with most of JG lately. Only place of his worth the price IMHO is Pound Ridge at this point."

  • "I have eaten here many times. I go back because the food is always excellent and the atmosphere is great. Two-thirds of the way through the meal it all went downhill. Two espresso's and one cheesecake ordered resulted in one espresso, a very long wait, a reminder to the staff we were waiting on a cheesecake, followed shortly afterwards by a chocolate pudding, an apology, then a cheesecake, and no sign of the other espresso. This probably won't stop me going back...but clearly slip up this time."

  • "I've dined here a few times for lunch which was excellent. This was my first dinner experience. In general the food was quite good with unusual flavors which I loved, but my pork chop was quite tough, in fact part of it was inedible--I couldn't cut it with a sharp knife! The restaurant got quite busy, but that should not have been a factor in not being able to get our waiter's attention--even to get our menus. Considering that this is a pricey establishment, I have higher expectations than what we experienced."

  • "the shrimp had an iodine taste; the calamari was unremarkable; the dover sole was good but expensive; the tuna was wonderful; the crab cake was stringy; wine excellent; service excellent; other diners reasonably good-looking; physical space above average."

  • "Deeply disappointing. We arrived for dinner and had to ask 3 times for the menu. We were shocked. On the Tasting Menu, the Foie Gras Brule was excellent. Baked Salmon (like the Tartare did not taste particularly fresh) and Pork Chop (could not finish) were misses. We also ordered the Tenderloin which was underwhelming. The croutons, parmesan cream & pea soup combo was flavorful. Our server was polite. I indicated in my OpenTable reservation that this was for our anniversary & asked for a window table. No window table was available which is understandable. They sat us by the kitchen. And no mention of our anniversary. For what we ended up paying and for our occasion, we were surprised by how much of a letdown the entrees and service was."

  • "Outstanding food (egg white and swiss cheese omelette was delicious, fruit was sweet and perfect), superb service and lovely views. After many lunches and dinners at Nougatine we finally tried a breakfast and were delighted. Expensive, yes, but what a treat. We are already planning our next breakfast outing."

  • "A perfect place for an early Summer dinner in NYC. Great food from Jean Georges ' kitchen, Central Park views, informal atmosphere, excellent service. Not inexpensive , but worth ir. My wife and I took our 10 year old grandson , who was very pleased with the food and the service."

  • "Nougatine at Jean Georges provided an amazing dining experience, one that was a highlight of a trip to Manhattan I took with my son. The wait staff was friendly and caring; the artichoke appetizer had me at the first leaf, and we both enjoyed the unusually simple but delicious pasta entree with every perfect delectable bite. Whether you decide to sit indoors in the elegant dining room or outdoors under the bright, sophisticated summer lights of the city, you will not be disappointed. A very 'exciting' and beautiful location for anyone visiting or native to Manhattan who wants a special night out with perfect food."

  • "The service was terrible. 5 minute wait after seating before anyone stopped by--and then just to give me water. Another 5 minutes for coffee to appear and had to flag down the server to order food. Coffee sup was dry and no one came by. The jalapeno chicken sausage was very good. The potatoes were very greasy. The over easy eggs were part over hard, part over easy and part over light. had the server stopped by to ask how things were, I could have told him. Again a dry coffee cup. When the server finally stopped by, it was with the bill-no questions such as anything else?, more coffee?, more water? how was it On top of this they automatically add 15%-I can see why-there would be no tip otherwise."

  • "The space is very plain, but the food and service are excellent. The best appetizers we have had in a long time, and a wine list so long we actually asked the sommelier for assistance."

  • "We were quite disappointed...we were given a wall table in an inconvenient corner. I could live with that, if the food lived up to the hype. The food was not bad, but it certainly was not great. Everything we ate was OK, BUT that was not why we came from NJ for lunch to Manhattan. We eat out at least once or twice a week in Montclair, west Orange, Livingston or Millburn and after this experience we decided not to bother coming to Manhattan for dinners/ lunches anymore. We have eaten MUCH better food in NJ. Both of us had fish , and it did not compare to the fish we had at Rezza. My husband also had Tuna Tartar appetizer which was mushy, and definitely not hand chopped. Sorry, but too much about THE name, but not about the food."

  • "We have had numerous lunches and a few memorable dinners over the years at Jean-George and Nougatine dating back to before the undercooked chocolate cake. The service, as always, was impeccable. My entree, the veal, was essentially tasteless and seemed to be mostly breading, probably just a bad choice on my part. Everything else was delicious; the toast "under" the foie graqs brulee was not crisp but that appetizer was, once again, very good. I was disappointed at ordinary ice cream choices of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and only one other, something minty, I think."

  • "We had a wonderful luncheon, excellent food, good service; we stayed long, and the staff didn't show any signs of wishing we'd clear out. That's always a sign of a welcoming attitude."

  • "Carefully prepared food -- innovatively designed. The taste sensations make this a place worth a detour. Attentive service but not entirely knowledgeable."

  • "We make a point of going to Nougatine once or twice a year, to keep it special. Everything, from start to finish, is prepared to perfection. It is always a step above our other favorite restaurants in the area. Specifically, in this visit the green pea soup with parmesan foam was "transformative". The lobster burger and butterscotch pudding fall into the same category. Pricing is very fair, considering that one leaves with a lasting memory as well as a great meal. It is also interesting to observe the other diners, some of whom are regulars choosing their favorites and others who are newcomers trying something outside their usual experience."

  • "Great lunch in this bright lively restaurant. Only downside was they tried to seat us at the worst table with no view so we sat at the bar. We had the prix fixe lunch & it was very good value. Wonderful view of Central Park."

  • "service was on point and appropriate for the meal, was dining with a friend and there was very little interruption between us. Our server with lovely eyes and our back waiter Jacob made us feel very welcome and relaxed. Rigatoni was delicious and cooked perfectly. My favorite part were the desserts. Joe Murphy's creations are exciting and a real inspiration. That black forest "ice cream", just wow! be back again for sure."

  • "Nougatine is fantastic every time. The service has actually gotten better over the years and staff works very hard to make you feel special. The lobster burger was awesome and best tuna tartar in NYC."

  • "My son is an Executive Chef and I know what to look for from the kitchen and the "front of the house". The food was intriguing and original. The service was personal, exceptional, and very thorough. The manager came over and checked on us and engaged in very personable conversation showing interest in our satisfaction with the total experience. Overshadowed any other restaurants I've visited in NYC."
