A word from Nougatine at Jean Georges
Nougatine is the more casual sister of Jean-Georges, with a very lively bar scene at night. The restaurant attracts a mix of celebrities, socialites, and movers and shakers in the business world. Adjacent to the formal Jean-Georges dining room, Nougatine serves the signature and seasonal dishes of Chef Jean-Georges for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, 365 days a year. The menu is more casual than that offered at Jean-Georges but still market driven, utilizing only the freshest and finest ingredients. In addition to providing gorgeous views of Central Park, the newly renovated dining room by Thomas Juul-Hansen features a bustling, immaculate open kitchen. Tones of brown and cream mingle to create an elegant space that is soothing by day and exciting by night. Nougatine offers a prix-fixe lunch menu Monday through Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. Pre- and post-theater prix-fixe menus are available Sunday through Friday from 5:30 to 6 p.m., and from 10 to 11 p.m.Continued

  • "Deeply disappointing. We arrived for dinner and had to ask 3 times for the menu. We were shocked. On the Tasting Menu, the Foie Gras Brule was excellent. Baked Salmon (like the Tartare did not taste particularly fresh) and Pork Chop (could not finish) were misses. We also ordered the Tenderloin which was underwhelming. The croutons, parmesan cream & pea soup combo was flavorful. Our server was polite. I indicated in my OpenTable reservation that this was for our anniversary & asked for a window table. No window table was available which is understandable. They sat us by the kitchen. And no mention of our anniversary. For what we ended up paying and for our occasion, we were surprised by how much of a letdown the entrees and service was."

  • "We have had numerous lunches and a few memorable dinners over the years at Jean-George and Nougatine dating back to before the undercooked chocolate cake. The service, as always, was impeccable. My entree, the veal, was essentially tasteless and seemed to be mostly breading, probably just a bad choice on my part. Everything else was delicious; the toast "under" the foie graqs brulee was not crisp but that appetizer was, once again, very good. I was disappointed at ordinary ice cream choices of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and only one other, something minty, I think."

  • "The service was terrible. 5 minute wait after seating before anyone stopped by--and then just to give me water. Another 5 minutes for coffee to appear and had to flag down the server to order food. Coffee sup was dry and no one came by. The jalapeno chicken sausage was very good. The potatoes were very greasy. The over easy eggs were part over hard, part over easy and part over light. had the server stopped by to ask how things were, I could have told him. Again a dry coffee cup. When the server finally stopped by, it was with the bill-no questions such as anything else?, more coffee?, more water? how was it On top of this they automatically add 15%-I can see why-there would be no tip otherwise."

The wait staff was friendly and caring; the artichoke appetizer had me at the first leaf, and we both enjoyed the unusually simple but delicious pasta entree with every perfect delectable bite. Whether you decide to sit indoors in the elegant dining room or outdoors under the bright, sophisticated summer lights of the city, you will not be disappointed. A very 'exciting' and beautiful location for anyone visiting or native to Manhattan who wants a special night out with perfect food."

  • "We were quite disappointed...we were given a wall table in an inconvenient corner. I could live with that, if the food lived up to the hype. The food was not bad, but it certainly was not great. Everything we ate was OK, BUT that was not why we came from NJ for lunch to Manhattan. We eat out at least once or twice a week in Montclair, west Orange, Livingston or Millburn and after this experience we decided not to bother coming to Manhattan for dinners/ lunches anymore. We have eaten MUCH better food in NJ. Both of us had fish , and it did not compare to the fish we had at Rezza. My husband also had Tuna Tartar appetizer which was mushy, and definitely not hand chopped. Sorry, but too much about THE name, but not about the food."

  • "We make a point of going to Nougatine once or twice a year, to keep it special. Everything, from start to finish, is prepared to perfection. It is always a step above our other favorite restaurants in the area. Specifically, in this visit the green pea soup with parmesan foam was "transformative". The lobster burger and butterscotch pudding fall into the same category. Pricing is very fair, considering that one leaves with a lasting memory as well as a great meal. It is also interesting to observe the other diners, some of whom are regulars choosing their favorites and others who are newcomers trying something outside their usual experience."

Our server with lovely eyes and our back waiter Jacob made us feel very welcome and relaxed. Rigatoni was delicious and cooked perfectly. My favorite part were the desserts.   • "Mostly quite special, with a few items less than wonderful . Prix fixe lunch is still a bit expensive. Shrimp salad & calamari were exquisite, as was thyme&vodka "lemonade". Ginger hake & organic chicken were wonderful, but veal milanese a bit disappointing. Our picky daughter had a cheeseburger which was very humdrum, as expected. Chocolate lava cake was the highlight; strawberry shortcake also quite good. Service is a bit over-the-top--they change placemats twice during the meal. Overall very nice for special occasions, if a bit expensive."

  • "It is important to me that restaurants using the freshest ingredients allow their natural flavors to take centre stage in each dish. We went for the pre fixe lunch menu on the day we went to Nougatine. As with all other good restaurants, we were asked for feedback, during which I mentioned that the Black Bass's accompanying potatoes were a tad bit too savoury for my liking. Almost immediately, the manager came up to us to smooth things over. I did insist that it isn't a big issue, just that it wouldn't be necessary to salt the potatoes as much, since there's salt flakes for us to do it to our liking. He took the feedback and I thought that was that. We ended up with 2 desserts for that meal, 1 compliments of the manager. So, great save!"

  • "We reserved a late lunch (2:00) for friends in from Italy. After making me sign my life away (required for parties of more than 4 - we were 5), when we arrived, our table was "having dessert" and we weren't seated for 25 minutes. The hostess suggested we wait in the adjoining hotel lobby (since there was no waiting at the restaurant entrance) in which we found exactly one sofa and two chairs - occupied by hotel guests. Not an auspicious beginning. The food was very nice, but nothing to write home about. Interesting and tasty tuna tartare; "signature" molten chocolate cake. The good taste of the food was unfortunately offset by the bad taste of the long wait."

  • "Had breakfast/brunch on a Saturday. Although the food was good, for the price, it was NOT exceptional. They also seemed to have the "D" team of servers. Not only did we have to constantly ask for more coffee but their attitude seemed indifferent at best. We had the waffles, eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with a fruit parfait. All were good, but my waffles were not hot nor was there warm maple syrup. (the only syrup was on table in a jug). Definitely not worth the price at breakfast !!!"

The foie gras brûlée was amazing - my 12 year old granddaughter wouldn't share a bite of hers - and the soft shell crabs the best I have ever eaten. Every dish was so creative and perfectly realized. But BE SURE to save room for the butterscotch pudding, and spring for some of the Y'qem to go with it..."
