Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I try to get to NYAJ at least once a month. It's always a treat, and the staff at the Seekonk restaurant are beyond compare. The managers are always visible and are genuinely concerned that each and every customer has a great dining experience. Can't forget the wait staff either - they are prompt, fun, and friendly."

  • "Food was great and there is a wonderful variety of dinner offers. Server was pleasant and efficient. Prices are reasonable. What more can you ask for?"

  • "Our annual dinner at Joe's in Seekonk was a huge success again. In fact, we tried your gluten-free menu this year and it was delicious, just as we expected. Thanks! France, Nance, Denise & Gina"

  • "Nice service, but brought wrong order, forgot to bring drink, so we were all eating out of sync with each other. They were apologetic and overall very nice. Food was decently priced, healthy seeming and tasty enough, nothing special. We felt like we were glad we went but don't want to go back -- food, service, atmosphere was just ok. Definitely a cut above chains like TGIFridays, chili's so if we're on Rte 6 and need a restaurant we will go back, but we wouldn't make it a destination for dinner otherwise. The oil that is presented with the bread -- totally addictive!!"

  • "Service was excellent, food beautifully seasoned, wine selection (and price ranges) wide and varied - easy to complement the entrée. Will definitely return and bring friends."

  • "food used to be fantastic..now is just mediocre.. too bad..I was excited to be at NYAJ's..was celebrating my birthday. Had the steak tips..nothing special and my husband had the Jambalya..he said it was too spicy..couldn't taste the food."

  • "This is the third time going to a NYAJ and the second time for this location specifically. My meal was fantastic. I had the miso cod and the spices were just right and the the rice cake that my fish came on was so delicious! My boyfriend got the burger but I'm not sure which one. It was clearly a hand made patty and he said it was good but he kept talking about how incredible the fries were. Looks like we'll be visiting often. There always something new to try and someday we might even make it to dessert!"

  • "I have been to this restaurant several times. Every time I bring out of town guests and they fall in love too. This restaurant has a great variety in the food and the service is always wonderful. The only issue is there usually is a long wait if you don't make a reservation ahead of time."

  • "Ever since I was introduced to NYAJ's I've always looked forward to and been happy with the experience. It is on the top of my recommendations to people looking for excellent unpretentious food at a reasonable price and a staff that always want to please. Never a lower than good experience!"

  • "I visit Not Your Average Joe's at least once a month and this trip was just as good as the rest. I ALWAYS make a reservation online since they are very busy and once again, I arrived and had a table at my reservation time. From there, our server was super kind and quick! Made great suggestions for my friends who never really went there. Food arrived perfect and on a busy Saturday night we were out in an hour and a half. Great job Joe's! You do good food and great service right! Oh and try the meatloaf!"

  • "I enjoyed my bistro steak so much I ate it all! They gave me enough potatoes for at least two, maybe three people. The watercress was a bit wilted, which may have been from the heat of the meat and potatoes. I would rather have had a vegetable, like grilled asparagus. The gluten free roll was quite good. You certainly couldn't tell that it was GF. The raspberry sorbet was sooo good with all the fresh berries!!!"

  • "I met up with some friends I hadn't seen in a while. We really wanted some good food and a chance to talk. Choosing Not Your Average Joes worked out perfectly for us. We didn't feel rushed: everyone enjoyed their food choice and our waitress was friendly and informative regarding food and beverage. A pleasant evening made better by our environment. I would say it was a little noisy but it was not a big problem for us."

  • "Our dining experience was only fair -- the service was barely adequate. The food was interesting but failed to meet the mark. The meat was tough and the portions were too big. Very noisy as the dining rooms were too large - clearly designed to herd people in and out."

  • "I love going to NYAJ's! They have a really decent GF menu! Make a reservation! Otherwise, you will wait! It is worth the wait! That said, I am not usually willing to wait more than 30 minutes. Their winesday specials on Wednesdays (in March) are a great idea! One to take advantage of! Go, you will not be sorry you did! Enjoy"

  • "My first time there. Found a mainly informal and spacious ambience , moderate noise level so serious conversation was possible. A huge and varied lunch menu probably accounts for the diversity of lunchtime diners there. My friend had one of the monthly specials, panfried miso cod, which she thought was excellent. My entree, rose scallops, was perfectly cooked, and came on the unusual bed of a squash sauce. To follow up we split the monthly desert special, tiramisu, also very good. The waiter was friendly and unusually accomodating. He suggested my entree off the dinner menu in a reduced portion, and on request provided a half of a glass of wine, as I was the designated driver. Recommend restaurant as great for lunch."

  • "We love the diverse menu at NYAJ's... The service is always and if we have a problem the management is always responsive Unfortunately this last time we were surrounded by too many noisy families when there were empty tables elsewhere. Management was very responsive to our concerns. We will continue to keep NYAJ's on our list of favorite restaurants !!!!"

  • "I met a friend for lunch and we both decided to have the "no-fredo" on the specials menu. It featured penne pasta with smoked chicken sausage, a "no-fredo" alfredo sauce, spinach and tomato. The sausage was the only thing with any flavor. The rest of the dish was totally bland. Not even salt or cheese helped. The server offered that perhaps it was just the way it was being prepared that day because many customers raved about it. At any rate, it wasn't enjoyable for US that day. The server and the manager were very concerned and offered another meal or something for takeout. The meals were comped, which was not necessary but appreciated. The tomato basil soup is the only reason the food was rated as fair instead of poor."

  • "We got to the restaurant for a reservation at 8:30 PM.We were shoved in a corner and practically forgotten about. We ordered an appetizer when we sat down which never came. the manager, Arthur, asked about the "unexpected guest", which were still trying to figure out what that meant. The food we did get was good. We were given the option of a free dessert since they forgot our appetizer. We ordered the peanut butter thing, but was disappointed when we received it. The description indicated it was vanilla ice cream with peanut butter and chocolate chunks folded into it. We were expecting scoops of ice cream with ribbons of peanut butter and fudge chunks rolled in Oreo cookie instead we were given a peanut butter ice cream pie piece."

  • "Also, dirty martini and house wine good. Lamb kebab special 18.99 - one the highest dinner prices on the menu but dry, not very tender. Asked for medium. Quantity is small compared to other restaurants in area. Suggest a soup or side salad come with the meal. Tiramisu was excellent."

  • "From the moment you arrive you will be thrilled with the service, knowledge of the foods being offered including a great selection of appetizers, beers, wines and amazing bread which comes with olive oil and cheese spread. Joe's creations are creative and perfectly matched to provide a great food experience. The monthly specials are amazing and if you like a selection of small plates you will be so impressed with the presentation and the flavors. The servers are friendly and attentive. You must stop in and judge this for yourself. You will be impressed, satisfied and will be back often."

  • "We've been visiting several NYAJ establishments for years now and Seekonk has quickly become one of our favorites. We live literally two minutes from a NYAJ yet we travel 30 minutes away to go to Seekonk. As a vegetarian I am pleased to know that as a "from scratch" kitchen I can have any dish transformed for a plant-based diet. The staff is always accommodating and extra friendly. As with most locations it can become very crowded and waiting for a table can be a chore. But it's worth the wait."

  • "We go to Not Your Average Joe for special occasions as it is more expensive than other restaurants in the area. The food is delicious and well presented, the waitresses are courteous and professional, and we like the bread that comes with the meal - ready to dip in an olive oil mixture. It is always a busy place, and we have found that it pays to call ahead with a reservation."

  • "The food is really good and the menu changes often. The staff are friendly and caring. The prices are a bit above average but it is nice to visit on special occasions. Reservations should be made on weekends as the wait is long. Additionally, if you make reservations you still will wait approximately 15 minutes more. There is limited seating area for waiting patrons and the bar area is usually full too."

  • "I have never known a restaurant to offer a free meal and dessert to customers in recognition of their birthday. Joe's does it and with class. My friend and I BOTH had coupons for a birthday meal and were treated the same as any other paying customer. Great food, great service and great staff. Thank you for a fun night at Joe's!"

  • "I have been to NYAJs in many locations MANY times over the years. One of things that I have become accustomed to, is that the servers are always very very good. Sadly, at dinner on Tuesday night, our server was not up to what I consider NYAJs standards. I know that everyone has bad days, and that things are complicated.... but our server made us feel rushed even tho the restaurant was not full. We did not feel that she paid close attention to us, as she was asking us if we wanted dessert while we were still working on our salads.... overall, my dining companion & I were disappointed :("
