We've dined at NYAJ's in the past, and we have always, without exception, had a great experience. The menu consistently offers fresh and creative cuisine, and there's something new to try each time we visit. Our waiter was very personable and efficient - our meals didn't sit a moment in the kitchen and were served hot. We love the fresh bread and dipping oil - fabulous! We had the new "founder's flounder" with a delicious cucumber, tomato and coriander salsa; meat loaf; and herb-crusted haddock. All compliments to the chef from our table! We arrived a little early for our 9:30 reservation. Our table and waiter were waiting. Service was outstanding as it always is at NYAJ's. Our food came quickly and was delicious, our waiter made sure that our glasses were never empty. Very accommodating (we wanted a quieter nook so our very distractable baby would eat her food, and didn't feel like we were inconveniencing the to ask. Not the largest dining room so it can get a bit loud as it fills up. Service is friendly and manager always checks in to make sure we are pleased with our experience. Restaurant can be a bit loud at times, but not terribly offensive. Some of the waitstaff is young/inexperienced.

The hostess was totally clueless. We had a reservation at 5pm on a Sunday(and two small children), and they didn't seat us for 10 minutes. During this early time, two other small groups arrived and were told by the hostess that there was a 20 minute wait, even though there were clearly empty tables. Both groups left to eat elsewhere.
My special shrimp, pesto pasta was DELICIOUS, and we always love the focaccia bread. Short rib could have been softer in the pasta dish. Our waiter was great and nicely attentive throughout our stay. I asked if the louder than usual music could be turned down and it was done quikly with a smile.
