Diner Reviews
  • "This is my favorite restaurant in Montgomery county. I am a regular"

  • "Made last minute reservations and as usual, everything was wonderful. We LOVE having Joe's right in the neighborhood."

  • "We love NYAJ's. Happy, upbeat staff, great food, innovative menu. This time we tried the wine and dine special and it was great. Sort of a sampling menu, with a flight of wine. As the weather was nice we sat on the patio. Surprisingly wonderful atmosphere even though so close to the driveway. Overhead heaters made this early spring day very comfortable. The only draw back to the patio is that the service is a little slower due to the location and flow of things. That said, you can see the team effort to make sure folks are attended to. If you haven't been to NYAJ's, you are missing a treat, but we appreciate you making it easier for us to get a table!!"

  • "We made reservations, on line. (My first time) We were seated right away! The waiter was familiar to us all. He presented all specials and he took our order immediately. The service was excellent because he came and went without disturbing us. The food was hot and tasty. My filet of flounder with spinach was to buttery and oily. We tried a new wine, on "Winesday", and enjoyed it."

  • "I have been very pleased with joe's, but not this time. Selected an April special menu item. It was mediocre."

  • "Our food was quite good, fixed to our specifications, and served promptly. Our waiter, Spencer, was attentive and helpful. a great experience."

  • "We were a group of 4 and everyone raved about their dinner. Our guests thought it was one of the best meals they've had in quite a well. It's always been a "can't miss" great meal."

  • "This was my first time at the restaurant and I had a great experience. The cocktails and food were delicious- I had the balsamic salmon, and the service was prompt and attentive. I will definitely return."

  • "We dine at NYAJ's frequently. The service is usually very good and food tasty. Unfortunately, this visit, the food bordered on poor. My daughter ordered a Backyard Burger, medium well done, just american cheese and lettuce. What she got was a rare burger lettuce and tomato, no cheese. When pointed out, our server (sorry, I don't remember her name) quickly took the burger back....to slap two pieces of cold cheese on top and return the undercooked burger to the table. Less than satisfactory. I ordered balsamic salmon. This too was undercooked. We didn't return the dishes a second time as we knew we would be taking most of it home and re-heating would solve the undercooked problem. Seems the kitchen was rushing the meals this day."

  • "And it truly is it! It's a pretty good restaurant I definitely would recommend it for others to go."

  • "We have eaten in Joe's many times; it's a great asset too the Gaithersburg/Kentlands area. The food is always fresh, interesting and delicious. The chef came to our table to discuss a garlic allergy with one of our friends, and then he made a special dish for her without garlic. This doesn't happen often - we were very impressed. We are so glad to have a restaurant like Joe's in our neighborhood."

  • "We were seated within five minutes of entering as promised even though the restaurant was crowded (with a reservation). They were giving an appetizer to those who were waiting to be seated. The food and service were both excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone. My dessert was comped when the waitress found out it was my birthday. This wasn't done where we went last year, which is why we went to a different place this year."

  • "At the suggestion of my date since I am from out of town, we met for our first date. Our waitress was over the top great. We wanted to talk first and were never rushed which really helped with the first date jitters. The evening was great, thanks Joe for a great beginning."

  • "Had to wait for a table for 30 minutes even though half of the restaurant was empty."

  • "i go often - sometimes with friend sometimes my husband sometimes big groups - i would always recommend and i always enjoy myself and enjoy the food!"

  • "I've been here multiple times and only once was my entree underseasoned and for that my dessert was free."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "ANOTHER great experience! We're greeted with a smile; seated quickly, drinks come fast (along with the most delicious bread and dip); everyone loved their appetizers, entrees and desserts. Everyone there is focused on providing fast, friendly, professional service. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this restaurant. Can't wait to go back."

  • "2nd time eating here. On both occassions, good food, good service. My wife and I were happy each time. If you haven't been here yet, give it a try."

  • "We went St Patrick's Day, my first time at NYAJ. My wife's suggestion as our first choice was closed for some reason. Food was good. Evening cocktail specials were nice. Prices were good. Nice dinner selections. Service was good and friendly, not intrusive. We both would go back, and would pick NYAJ over some of the other restaurants in our area. It was cold outside so I can't comment on the outside dining. They seemed to be attentive to groups nearby."

  • "Great Food, too. There is always something new to try at NYAJ's. We have found that most menu items are delicious, and you can't beat the bread with parmesaned olive oil at the beginning of the meal. My daughter has a lot of diet restrictions and last time we were there, the server had the chef come to our table and he made up a special dish just for her, and it was Delicious! The servers are wonderful! You won't be disappointed."

  • "Took two people who had never been there before and they enjoyed it a lot. I had the pizza which I found to be a little soggy on the underside."

  • "The food (miso cod and flounder) were excellent. The service was impeccable. We are very impressed!!!"

  • "The feel of the dining room is modern and comfortable. Our server was wonderful and very attentive. Our group selected a large variety of menu selections including vegetarian. Everything was beautiful on the plate and delicious with the exception of the chicken breast which was dry and chewy. This entree was removed from the check. We would return, including three (3) first timers in our group. This is definitely a breath of fresh air for this area."

  • "We were looking for a place to celebrate a birthday that had both good food and was a fun place to go. We found it at Not Your Average Joe's. They have a great selection of beers and other interesting cocktails, a lively bar area with the basketball games all playing. The food was very good! Everything we tried had a good flavor. Will definitely go back. Try the scallops, they were choked perfectly and seasoned just right!"

  • "We dine at Joe's frequently and always have a great experience. If something is not perfect they take care of it happily and easily."

  • "This is my go-to place when meeting friends for lunch. The menu is extensive enough that everyone can find something they like. The service is friendly and efficient. Refills are always coming and the bread and dip are always delicious. I would recommend "Not Your Average Joes" to anyone who enjoys good food and good service."

  • "I had one of their March specials and it was great w/o all the guilt! Other diners had normal meals and all done great! This has been our go to place to take guests or just us!"
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "They have a great selection of unique dishes that are done very well. A little disappointed in the "Thing" dessert, not as good as it looked on the menu, but everything else was really good. The service was great. Attentive but not intrusive."

  • "This was my first dinning in. Inside looks good, waiter was friendly and nice and table was clean, until food arrived. I order Fresh Spring Roll for appetizer. It looked great but as soon as I bit, it was hard. It was not worth paying about $8. Main dish was okay. Nothing special about it. Do I go back there? I think I would. That's because waiter was kind."

  • "The OpenTable ratings for this restaurant were quite high so my expectations were fairly high. Turns out that it's big, it's noisy and the food we had was OK, but not good enough or inexpensive enough to make a return visit a must."

  • "We met another couple for a Saturday night dinner and catch-up. The other couple had never been to Joe's, so it was interesting to see their reaction. They loved the food, the general atmosphere of the restaurant. I was somewhat concerned about the noise level since one of our guests wears hearing aids, but most of the time she had no problem hearing. We all had a different dessert so everyone could have a taste, they were wonderful. Joe's is just a wonderful addition to the area. We have a lot of choices, but many of them are "the same old, same old" they've been doing for years. With Joe's ever changing menu, you never feel that way. Even the cocktails change, last month I had a Mango Mojito, this month it was Raspberry."

  • "After beauty treatments at Elizabeth Arden, three of us went to Joe's for lunch. We had a lovely lunch and did stay a while longer than most to eat and visit. The waitress stayed attentive and didn't seem to mind, we did leave an extra large tip for staying so long. Just so nice to have a neighborhood place you can depend on for good food and atmosphere."
