  • "I always always always love my meal here, but the service is hit or miss. It can be outstanding, or I end up with someone rude, or without much menu knowledge. One time, we got our food before both our appetisers and wine. The manager was nice enough to take the appetiser off the check, but it was not the way we wanted our evening to go."

  • "Handy to get to from many directions. Super friendly staff. Really enjoyed our dinner."

  • "The menu offers a nice variety and the dishes are somewhat unique. As the name implies, they are not the average, but offer a different taste to various selections. The drink menu follows suit in being unique as well, not just standard drinks. Nice overall experience. Nice place to take visiting guests."

  • "Since it was wine month, we got to try a great bottle of wine for a good price. Victoria, are server was great!"

  • "I enjoy going to NYAJ's because of the wide menu with frequent updates and specials. Good for groups with different tastes. Today was lunch with a friend. We had a fine time. Kitchen was slammed so things took longer than they should have, but that allowed time for conversation, and the server kept us informed."

  • "Went with a group of seven, all of use were quite happy with our meals. Three of us ordered the rosemary skewered scallops, they are delicious! The portions were good sized."

  • "There were eight of us out on a Sunday night to celebrate my mom's 84th birthday, youngest was 9 and oldest was 84. Everyone was able to find a good meal, from pizza to chicken to fish to steak. The server very sweetly put a candle in my mom's cheesecake when she realized it was her birthday. We eat at this NYAJ location at least once a month and are never disappointed (unless we cant get a reservation and the wait is too long!)"

  • "My two teenagers and I had dined for the first time at a Not Your Average Joe's on the Cape several years ago. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. When I saw one had opened in Acton which is not far from where we live, we just had to go. The bread is outstanding. In fact, it was what my son remembered the most from his last visit. My kids are very picky eaters and I have to say were quite disappointed on the menu selection. I did notice that the food choices were for a more sophisticated palate. However, my daughter did find something on the kids' menu which worked out fine. I thought the food choices were very innovative and different. My only suggestion is more vegetarian choices. I only found a couple. The dessert was to die for!"

  • "The place is always crowded in Acton because we are so desperate for local restaurants, not because there is anything special here. Service was ok, they forgot the chicken on my friends Waldorf chicken salad but half way through brought it over. The sauce on the scallops has changed, it is now too sweet and there were no vegetables on the plate. Need to serve larger portions of vegies with these entrees and serve more fish. Their salmon entrees are sad. Takeout even sadder when you get it home. I think they are not caring as much because they know they are one of the few non only pizza restaurants in town."

  • "$39.99 for a bottle of wine and 2 entrees was a great deal!"

  • "Ashley is an outstanding server. We had 2 peanut allergies in our party and she made sure that everything was safe for us. She also went out of her way to insure that everyone's food and drink was perfect. This is one of our family's favorites. We'll be back."

  • "NYAJ is a reliable restaurant with consistently good food and service. It is my favorite local place for lunch."

  • "I've been here a few times and had good experiences before. Our server was very attentive, especially since it was Winesday ($39.99 for 2 entrees and a bottle of wine), can't fault her. I should have had the salmon, which was good the last time, but had the herb crusted cod. Not sure what herbs they thought were in it, as it was pretty tasteless. The fries were soggy, but the slaw was pretty good. We picked a Riesling, and it was a decent bottle. Took the rest home! Dessert was the Key Lime Pie. Don't think I'll go on Winesday again, or if I do, I'll order off the regular menu. Place is always packed, so it's great to have Open Table available to get a reservation!"

  • "The food was good but the service was slow. The restaurant was packed and our server was taking care of four to five tables at one time so getting our food and drinks took a bit of time. The ambiance was great will surely go back. Would strongly recommend making reservations first before you go."

  • "Eclectic main menu, kids' menu and even a gluten-free menu with plenty of options. I wouldn't call it excellent, but overall it's better than good."

  • "I picked this spot for my husbands birthday dinner with family because of the extensive gluten free menu. A good portion of the family is gluten free and it's not always easy to find great options for everyone (gluten free and not). Everyone was pleased with everything, especially the gluten free bread! That was above and beyond for my sister in law! Overall had a great time and was very accommodating for us. We have 3 kids under 3, my inlaws have 4 kids, we're a big group and we had plenty of room and were well taken care of. We will definitely be back."

  • "We had a great burger (albeit with cold fries) and a joke of a Waldorf salad for dinner. Despite listing an array of ingredients, it arrived without dried cranberries and candied walnuts. What it had was a ridiculously high mound of shredded cheese on top of a tiny amount of wilted iceberg, a few straggly pieces of chicken, and some granny smith apple pieces. What Joe's does well is respond quickly and professionally when there's a problem; they brought a new salad with all the ingredients (although still not romaine, unless there is a romaine the color of ice cubes), and took both the salad and burger, which I had long since finished, off the bill. Excellent, customer-forward response. IMHO, they need to slow down and get the orders right."

  • "Hi , This past Sat. I had a nice dinner here for my bday , loved our waitress Cheryl I believe, took care of us well , fast , very friendly and put effort in understanding my friend speaking to order his beer & main course we really value that in a waiter / waitress The wait even with a reservation a bit much, ( 45 min ), but totally understanding was particularly jammed Saturday at 7. For the most part excellent ! Thanks :) , will be back"

  • "First bad experience at Acton NYAJ. They were very crowded and noisy with a painting class. Long line waiting at door. Told me that I would have a long wait even with my reservation. I said "I have a reservation. If you can't seat me promptly, tell me now." They gave me a table, but it took 10 minutes to get a menu. Out of the short ribs special - no beef substitution. Ordered the flat bread appetizer - was yummy -- brought out by chef. Waiter didn't return for 20 minutes to take my meal order. Said that there was a new menu coming soon. No refill of water. By then I just wanted to get my check and go home. Would have been a real problem with diabetes - low blood sugar if I didn't have the bread. Not my typical experience at Acton NYAJ."

  • "We enjoyed the rosemary scallops and the steak tips. The tips were done just right. Liked the dessert special, cherry bread pudding, but only available for a few more days. Very attentive service."

  • "Met a friend that I have not seen in a long time for lunch. The service was OK and the salads were also just OK. I am just a little tired of the offerings. Although they do have seasonal additions, the rest of the menu (especially the salads) could use an update. My friend, who had never dined here was not impressed. Luckily we had a great time catching up, but the food and service were lackluster. When all was done, I was a bit embarrassed I had suggested we meet here."

  • "This visit was a hit thanks to an excellent server. More often than not they seem peeved to have to deal with customers, but this time we got lucky. The food is always pretty good, even if the bread is cold & the portions can be smallish."

  • "We went to this restaurant based upon a recommendation and were not disappointed. For a group of 14 service was tremendous and very responsive. All parties seemed to enjoy their meal and was fairly priced. We will come again."

  • "Pulled the place off the Internet in a last-minute search for a meal on a Monday night. We were very pleasantly surprised by the ambiance of the restaurant, the service we received and the food. Price was very reasonable."

  • "My husband and I made a reservation and arrived 5 minutes ahead. I checked in and expected to wait the 5 minutes. I was told it would be about 15 minutes or so, and the hostess kind of ignored that I had a reservation time. A couple walked in behind us without a reservation and were also told a 15 minute or so wait. What was the point of reserving a table then? The place is popular, so pretty noisy, which is fine for this sort of restaurant on a Saturday night. But the tables are really close together so with a family on one side (with a young boy I had to ask twice to excuse me so I could get to my seat) and a 4some next to us where we were privy to every bit of their conversation, it just felt cramped and rushed and not at all relaxing."

  • "Service is always good and the food is great. NEVER had a bad experience in Acton, Burlington or when they were in Lexington. We go frequently when we don't feel like cooking and we want a decent meal but in a non-uppity atmosphere.noise level is normal but not like a library"

  • "I'm the guy who always a problem -- and each time a different one -- following my visits to Joe's. Well this time, having nothing but positives to report made this particular experience Far-better-than-average Joe's. We met up with some old friends and shared a table with them, so that was a win right there. A great evening of catch-up conversation was enhanced by four very good entrees (my wife and I had the steak frite and ahi tuna, respectively; I forget what our friends had, but they loved it), and the service was reasonably attentive (sometimes an issue here, being occasionally over- or underserved) by a friendly and spirited young lady. How's is raising the bar."
