We’ve turned a modern lens on traditional Italian cooking. North Italia is our love letter to Italy—a place that’ll make you feel like you’ve stepped off a charming side street to discover a culinary gem. After a decade in business, we’ve learned a thing or two and we’re approaching perfection in the art of handmade pasta and pizza. Every day, we start from scratch to create dishes like Strozzapreti with Bloomsdale spinach or supple ribbons of tagliatelle for our Bolognese. Our pizza is a revelation: an airy, barely chewy center embraced by a perfectly crisp crust. With the spirit of the Italian taverna, North is the place to talk shop over a cocktail or swap gossip sharing delectable chef creations.Every neighborhood would be lucky to have a place like North.

The noise level inside is too loud, so we love to sit outside. The misters however, were turned up so high that the seats were damp and you could not avoid getting wet. We observed several people not being able to sit out there because the seats were wet. One couple even left and went to the restaurant next door. Unfortunately, when we asked the manager to turn them down, she said no because the people on the back porch needed them on. Most of the time, we really enjoy sitting outside. They did get turned off after dark, about 40 minutes later.

Our expectations were high and we were disappointed. The place is very nice to look at and the drinks were good. Things went wrong at dinner. Prices were HIGH and Portions were SMALL! This is the dreaded combo of our two worst mistakes. Not a good value for the money. One of our group had to laugh and ask where the rest of his entree went. Two of us said while dining "We should have gone to Carrabbas!"

  • North Tucson on Labor Day

North was packed at 7 PM on Labor Day. We arrived on time, and were seated after only a short wait (inevitable considering the crowded though capacious dining area and bar). Someone was at the table almost immediately with menus and to take drink orders; bread arrived shortly thereafter. The waitperson who explained daily specials and thereafter took our orders, was great…very friendly, and she came back a number of times during our meal and after asking if all was good. More bread or olive oil and balsamic, no problem and quickly brought. The food was good too. This restaurant has a great view of the city. Is it as good as Marlborghetto in Lecchi? No, but then very few places are. Should you dine here? Absolutely.

So if you visit North on a holiday be prepared for the wait, even with reservations we had to wait 35 minutes. The food is always great, it just took us 2 1/2 hours to eat, since there were so many customers... and our server kept disappearing.

I hope this isn't a trend, but it feels like the 2 of the last 3 times we went to North, for Sunday chill on the front at the fire pits was less than the high standard we have become used to. 1st off, the food was great. 2nd, once we finally got service, it was okay to good. My guess either the hostess didn't tell the server we arrived for our RESERVATION OR the servers saw us and didn't care. It took at least 5-7 minutes (felt longer...) before I finally walked in and asked if any of the staff knew we were out there. During that time another table of ladies stood up & went inside b/c of no service. We are getting disappointed and hope this doesn't become a trend.

I have become addicted to North...I'd say it was the food...which continues to be great. Get the Chef's Board...I'd say it was the service...Alex was awesome and we have only had great service with the staff...I'd say it was the outside seating...a view and an oasis in the middle of a mall...I'd say it was the drinks...this time around, I was adventurous and had the Red Rooster (added bacon...) and a Greyhound... No - it is all of the above combined. Plus my son (2 1/2 yrs old)...is a hit among the staff and he loves the pizza!

Although the food is excellent and the prices reasonable, the general atmosphere is very loud and makes it difficult to carry on a conversation without lots of "what?" and "say that again." I also found the service wanting because our server was overloaded with tables. The manager, Sarah, did come by to help out and was very sweet and helpful. But the bottom line was the server wasn't able to or couldn't do the job.

Very good, fresh food. The pastas are hand made and cooked just right. The executive chef will make anything you want. They cater to individual wants and needs and take pride in this level of service. The wait staff is young, energetic and enthusiastic about their product. All around great place. Noise level can be a little high depending on size of crowd. You can sit closer to the windows or outside if you want a more intimate experience.

We were very pleased with our dinner at North. The staff couldn't have been nicer and was very knowledgeable about the food. Excellent salad course. I would highly recommend the Italian Kitchen salad. Perfectly dressed. The house special Bolognese was wonderful. The date and prosciutto pizza was also excellent. One person at our table, who ordered the gnocchi as his main course said the meal was one of the best he'd had in 2014. It was our first trip since the changeover a couple of years back. It certainly won't be our last. Highly recommended.

We had not been to North for dinner in ages. The service was excellent, the food quite good, but the interior is way too noisy. The outdoor patios face onto the parking lot so they are only ok as an alternative. The noise level is a deterrent to frequent visits. This seems to be true of a lot of Sam Fox' restaurants: good food, outstanding service, and noise level too high for good conversation.

It was a bit on the hot side in Tucson but we were seated on the patio as we love dining outdoors. Turned out with the misters and overhang the temperature was quite pleasant. The background music was moderate allowing for easy conversation. The food was very good and the Sunday "Happy Hour" with half price bottles of any wine was something we surely took advantage of. We went to North-Tucson with friends and had a wonderful time; we were greeted warmly and immediately taken to our table. The service was very good - knowledgeable wait-staff and attentive to our special needs. The food was prepared as stated on the menu and tasty; one person from our party has food allergies and the North chef prepared a menu item specifically tailored to meet her needs - a nice touch. North has an energy about it; while it can get a bit loud at times, the size of the main dining room handles the noise easily - We have had brunch and dinner at North-Tucson and extremely pleased with both experiences. We look forward to returning to North again in the future.

We've been wanting to go here for some time, and finally made it. Now we regret not going sooner! The menu was so fabulous, it was actually hard to narrow down an order. Really nicely put together. Each dish that came to our table was impeccable and better than the next. The pork was so completely delicious, it, regretfully, has now ruined us for pork elsewhere. The waitstaff was professional waitstaff, which was so refreshing. Knew the menu; knew the wines -- extremely helpful. The general manager is Italian, and also extremely knowledgable, caring, engaging and hands on. Atmosphere is modern, contemporary, casual, open. There is nothing not to love about this place! Would highly recommend to foodies and non-foodies alike.
