Diner Reviews
  • "Service was a little slow - we sat with our menus for a LONG time before we were approached to order, had to request coffee refills, and our dirty plates sat in front of us for way too long. Having said that, the waitstaff was very nice. Food was very good - the lemon-ricotta pancakes and johnnycake benedict got high marks. The soft scrambled eggs on toast was tasty but the portion size very small. Get here early, at least before noon, or you'll be buried in the strollers that park just inside the bar area."

  • "The menu on the Open Table site featured a lobster main course for N. End Grill. Unfortunately, it had been removed from the menu. I was fine with what I ate, but disappointed nevertheless."

  • "This was my second time going to North End Grill and both times both the food and service has been phenomenal! Everyone from the reservationist to the hostess, servers, bussers, etc are extremely friendly and knowledgeable and the food is of the highest quality. I will definitely become a regular here."

  • "Most recently at Grill for Brunch. Friend raved about Maine crab salad with avocado. Her daughter loved the ricotta pancakes. The two selections illustrate the wide range of the brunch menu. Easy to focus on traditional breakfast, with selections like soft scrambled eggs with Hen of the Woods Mushrooms and grilled bread or Chilaquiles with scrambled eggs and chorizo. And easy to head toward special lunch items like Albacore tuna melt -- using Iranian raisins and white cheddar. Mimosas, and Bloody Murray and 3 other versions of Bloody Marys featured. Extensive wine and scotch menus."

  • "I wish I could get the maple bacon croissant every Sunday! Brunch at North End Grill is out of this world. I went with 9 girlfriends and enjoyed the buzzy atmosphere, great food, fantastic drink and excellent service. Our group were still talking about the fantastic pastries when we landed back in the UK 3 days later!"

  • "The menu has a number of offerings that are infused with Indian & Asian spices, some a bit heavy for me. The lobster was somewhat disappointing because it was too heavily spiced and presented missing claws and feet, both of which are the best part of a lobster. I would return but would order differently."

  • "The food at North End Grill never disappoints. The grill is the main focus of the restaurant and if you are in the mood for a perfectly grilled meat or fish this is the place. I especially like that the food is delicious and flavorful, but not heavy or drowned in sauce. We like to sit at the bar in front of the kitchen and watch the food being prepared. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Though we are no scotch drinkers - we have had fun trying it out in small tastes with the knowledgeable help of Jeff. If you are looking for a relaxed evening were you can hear your table partners and experience good food, wine and service, I highly recommend the North End Grill."

  • "Just the best experience! The food was PERFECTLY cooked, the service was AMAZING! He was VERY knowledgeable of the dishes and made sure we did not have allergies to any of the ingredients. Recommended great pairings for wine according to what I was eating! I had their kale salad, french malbec which was VERY different from the Argentina style of Malbec however with my food it was great. I had a fish dish I can't remember the name, but it was GREAT! My friend had the Lamb entree, it was cooked to perfection, not too gamey tasting at all, but still the great taste of Lamb. We had the most amazing dessert wines, and the THRICE FRIED FRENCH FRIES that are seasoned with all kinds of spices! YUMMMM!!! Can you tell I am a true foodie! :-)"

  • "Went on Saturday at noon for brunch with my mom and will never go back. The service was so bad we were honestly laughing. It took 20 minutes and me asking 3 different servers before they brought me my coffee. I thought they had forgotten but they brought out the milk for the coffee, just not the coffee. Then when my cup was empt, instead of asking if I would like more, they tried to take it away. I politely asked for more, and it took another 15-20 minutes. I finally got up and tried to get it myself, which they seemed shocked by, but even then it took another 5 min. The food ultimately came as we'll but at this point we we had probably been there for close to an hour. Could not eat and get out fast enough. The French toast was very good."

  • "We had an amazing lunch and the waitress was very knowledgeable and sweet. The food was presented well, very flavorful, and healthy. As with most of Danny Meyer's restaurants the ambience was just as professional as the staff."

  • "Hadn't been in months but had friends in town and was in the mood for NEG. Server was delightful and dishes ranged from good (tuna melt was perfectly fine, but not quite as well put together as I had hoped) to great (french toast was brilliant and Johnny cakes as well). We ordered the pastry basket as a starter and unfortunately that arrived about a minute before our mains which was pretty pointless, but our server took them back, kept them warm, brought them back as dessert, and then comped them, so no hard feelings there. Per usual, everyone was very happy with their food, great service and nice setting, and quite reasonable pricing. One of my favorite "classy" brunch places for relatives/special occasions (as opposed to weekly brunch)."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants. Although it is pricey, I always leave there feeling it was worth every penny. The staff is always attentive and I am touched that they remember who I am even when there are long absences between visits. The food is wonderful and I love that the menu varies and takes advantage of what is in season. In addition, the sommeliers always make great wine recommendations. I love bringing clients here or coming to celebrate a birthday. Even my 12-year old daughter loves it."

  • "Three of us had dinner at North End Grill on a busy Saturday night. My first time to this restaurant but not a first to a Meyer restaurant, of which Tabla was my favorite, and i use Mr. Cardoz'' cookbook at home all the time. The service was amazing: personal, unhurried yet we never waited. The wines selected for us were great and reasonable in price. The food was delicious, all courses. There were some hints of the flavors I miss from Tabla as well. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening and will return the next time we are in the City."

  • "The food is great, the service is great, the crowd is fun: mostly investment banking groups or couples during the week and families on the weekend--Meryl Streep sat 3 tables away from me the night I was there! Bar is hopping. The wine pairings are outstanding--ask the sommelier to choose wines by the glass for you! You won't regret it. I also love the desserts and wine pairings with those. This is my favorite restaurant."

  • "The restaurant is beautiful in a clean, crisp, minimalist way. The wine selection looks great. And our food was tasty. But I'm still trying to figure out how they took over 45 minutes to prepare and serve two burgers. A manager or hostess (she never identified herself) even came out at one point to assure us that our food was coming soon, apologizing for the wait. We had mentioned at the outset that we only had about an hour ... which is about when our food arrived. Then after eating, and waiting more while our table was meticulously cleared and cleaned, all the while saying "just the check please", it took another 10 minutes to get our check. Okay food, but odd approach to service. Maybe we just caught them on an off day."

  • "Actually we've going since they opened, but we're finding that it's becoming a default choice--and we live just blocks from many of NYC's top restaurants. We love both the brunch and dinner menus. the staff is also terrific, warm and welcoming and remembers preferences."

  • "I was here with a guest who really appreciates fine food. In perusing the lunch menu, he stated, "They always have so many interesting choices!" Not only are they interesting and creative, but they are delicious. I have never been disappointed with my meals at North End Grill, and I know friends and colleagues are excited to come back. The ingredients are always extremely fresh, the combinations are harmonious and innovative, the use of spices and sauces is highly effective in enhancing and showcasing the flavors and textures of the main elements, but never overpowers them, the presentation is attractive, and the service is understated but friendly and efficient. I adore the sourdough bread. I look forward to my next visit."

  • "My boyfriend and I live in BPC, just a short walk from North End Grill. Last winter we had dined here and I was not impressed by the food at all (probably the reason why we didn't return until almost a year later). Our second experience there this past Friday night was much better! The food was amazing (kale salad, buratta & bread, RED SNAPPER!, seasoned fries & the most mouth watering dessert- the butterscotch creme pot !!). We did, however, wait about 25 minutes for our drinks (our apps came out before our drinks!)but our waiter was nice enough to take them off our bill without us even asking. Will return to NEG for sure in the near future!"

  • "Really enjoyed North End Grill. The food menu was uncomplicated and each dish--appetizer and main course--was imaginative and delicious. Our table had five appetizers and each was outstanding. The menu was very pescetarian friendly. The grilled snapper was cooked perfectly and was wonderfully flaky. The black bass ceviche appetizer, with apple, heart of palm and chili was another big hit, offering a creative blend of flavors. Thrice fried french fries were crisp and well-seasoned. If you're a scotch fan, you'll love NEG. The scotch menu is among the more extensive I've encountered. I enjoyed a healthy pour of Lagavulin 16, but there were many other appetizing choices. Look forward to my next trip to NEG next time I visit NYC."

  • "truly everything was flawless. Atmosphere lively yet very easy to talk with comfort. tables nicely spaced so dinner conversation was easy. Service was attentive yet not overbearing. Food was epic. I didn't like my first (expensive) glass of wine I chose so server offered other options and one I selected from her tasting turned out to be $9.00! (much less expensive). I loved everything about this restaurant."

  • "Goldman Sachs must have asked Danny Meyer to put the North End Grill around the corner from the HQ, so they could have an off-premise "hangout"...very corporate in a good way! Excellent food, a Caeser Salad with butter lettuce instead of Romaine was outstanding and a Pekeytoe crab salad with an Asian inflection was wonderful."

  • "I have come here often for various business lunches and it never fails to delight. The food is unique and delicious and the service is already good. Don't be in a hurry though since they are always very busy and food is freshly prepared so you might wait for a little while but it's well worth the wait. The Burrata is to die for and the mushroom pizza was also delicious."

  • "My friend used to frequent another restaurant located uptown and owned by the same chef. We had heard that he had opened the North End Grill and we went for lunch. It is located on the ground floor of a large building not far from the 9/11 memorial. I can't say enough about the restaurant. Excellent food, service and ambiance. Highly recommend it."

  • "I've been here for lunch with clients about 4 times now in the last 3 months. We don't have many good places nearby but this is definitely a neighborhood gem and my favorite. There portions are not very large but ok for lunch. The prices are a bit high but considering how delicious the food it, I won't complain."

  • "Business dinner with co workers proved to be an all around winner at this excellent restaurant with superb food, professional service and perfect atmosphere. The mushroom pizza and Maine Lobster appetizers were flavorful and fresh. The rib eye and lamb entrees were cooked to perfection. Our server (John) made our table very welcome and answered every question with detailed confidence and warmth. I now consider North End Grille one of my favorites, and can't wait to return."

  • "The food was good, but not great. People in my party thought the cocktails were fantastic. The ambience, food and service were not what I've come to expect of a Danny Meyer restaurant. Unfortunately, the service was lacking. There was a very long wait between courses and our server did nothing to communicate with us about the delay. At times all the servers were standing around and it appeared that nothing was going on in the kitchen. There were also quite a few young children/infants in the restaurant. An infant in a stroller was right behind my seat. Strollers at the table in a high end restaurant are bad enough and I was surprised it was permitted, but a crying infant is completely unacceptable."

  • "North End Grill seems extremely well suited for men at lunchtime. The menu, portion size, ambience. I adore Danny Meyer's restaurants and I enjoy very much the location of this one---way down by Battery Park. It feels like taking a visit to Chicago/ Lakeshore Drive/Lake Michigan. A lot of fun. I wish they hadn't switched out the lobster for pepper shrimp in the cobb salad. The donut holes are superb. Menu very narrow/ focussed. Maybe a little too much so. But very very pleasant."

  • "This restaurant was what I would expect from Danny Meyer. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the atmosphere and setting were also fantastic. When we arrived, we were promptly seated and had drinks in hand within 5 minutes. The hostess came up to us to apologize because we ordered the clam pizza and she said when the chef made it, he wasn't happy with how it turned out so she was letting us know that they were making us a new pizza. We really only waited about 10 minutes for the pizza and it was absolutely delicious. The clams were cooked perfectly and the crust on the pizza was thin and had a lemon zest flavor, which complimented the clams well. The other apps we ate were also quite tasty."

  • "I used to love this restaurant, but yesterday's visit was horrible It took 21/2 hours to get a good but very small crab salad, a mediocre egg Benedict and a burned French toast If you add almost a $100 bill to this experience it is clear why this is my last time at this establishment"
