We were a party of 3. Two arrived early and the restaurant was not very busy. They decided to wait at the bar for the third party to arrive. They were then asked if they would like to be seated at their table and wait there, which they accepted. But the Maitre D then commented that he wouldn't do that on a Saturday night. OK...it is a Tuesday and the place is pretty quiet. The waiter was attentive...but way too attentive, constantly trying to push this dish or that. When we declined one appetizer, he would suggest another, then another, then another....We can read the menu, these weren't specials. And then when the bill arrived with a $30 corkage fee!! Really!! There are some great North Beach restaurants, that offer a much nicer experience with as good if not better food. We won't be back.

The food was alright, but for the price we paid, I would have expected more. I found the restaurant to be clean and nice, but thought it was a bit bright for evening dining. With the number of good Italian restaurants in North Beach, try another.

We picked this restaurant from Open Table recommendations and it did impress in a great way! Neighborhood Italian restaurant with fabulous service by Duke who was attentive but not overly-perfect! The barata was fresh and delicious. My husband had the veal saltimbocca and I had the homemade cannelloni. Both dishes were cooked erfectly and served at a nice temperature. The bread was soft and seasoned just right, Cant say enough about this place. It was a great find!

We were late for our reservation, and on a timeline for the show across the street. The entire staff were happy to see us, and genuinely made our dinner relaxed and fun. It was a special occasion for the four of us, no time for desert…but the House Barolo was superb and decadent!

One of our favorite restaurants for over 30 years. Our son requested we go for his birthday. Service was cold and the food was very lackluster. We have no problem paying a high price for high quality food and service, but neither the food or service warranted the prices. There are so many fantastic restaurants in S.F., we will not be returning which is sad as it's always been a family favorite and a restaurant we have taken friends and clients to.

A typical tourist trap restaurant that is mediocre to average. Prices are a little high for what you get. The antipasto for 2 is way too big, boarding on gross. Our server was pretentious and condescending. I see no reason to go back.

I ate at the North Beach twice last week, having been introduced to the place five years ago through a friend in San Francisco. I took two groups of friends/client there last week, the second time with 15 minutes notice to the restaurant. Suffice to say we were thrilled and pleased and I am well aware as to why the North Beach is my friend's favorite place in San Francisco.

Their satimbocca and house-made meat sauce are some of the best we've had in ~40+ years of dining in the Bay Area. The Servers were notably attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, and never intrusive. Pretty dining room, well-spaced tables, comfortable chairs, and the acoustics were such that it was easy to have a conversation. It wasn't just dinner, but a relaxing, totally enjoyable dining experience.

When visiting the West Coast, we wanted once again to eat abalone, which was abundant when we first went to San Francisco and Monterey in the1960's but now is extremely hard to find. Our hotel concierge f9und this restaurant as one of the very few, if not only, one serving it. It was extremely expensive as expected, but beautifully prepared, and the kitchen split the order (as they did other dishes) so the price was somewhat mitigated. Wines are great, and our waiter seemed truly to care to get us a truly memorable meal. Go there, even if you don't order abalone.

I ate at this restaurant a year ago when I was in San Francisco. It was outstanding then and still is. I highly recommend this establishment as first of all the ambience is wonderful but the wine is fabulous and the food as well, especially the lamb and carpaccio. Raj, the sommelier definitely knows his wine and is a pleasure to talk to. If you ever get a chance to eat here, please do. You won't be disappointed!

My family and I started going to North Beach Restaurant in the 1970s and it is still as great as it was then. The service was attentive, and the food was great. The gnocchi was fluffy (not heavy like it is in some places) and the tomato basil sauce that the restaurant makes there was delicious. The semifredo (sp??) dessert is to die for. I will definitely go back.

This was an old style Italian restaurant and by that I mean by way of decor, service and ambience, elegance and style. We were not rushed and items on the menu were readily and pleasantly explained to us. There was a comprehensive wine list some from their own Petroni vineyards. We started with mussels which were succulent in a tomato based sauce and I had Parma ham and melon, which was very tasty. For mains I had a veal and prawn combi dish and my wife had aubergine parmigiana both excellent. Too full for desert regrettably we finished with two coffees. Altogether a lovely evening.

Have been coming to the North Beach area and this restaurant in particular for several years, and it never ceases to please. Attentive service that started with Raj at the door, and Marco as our server. Marco took time to go over the menu in detail, and later took the extra effort to split our multiple orders on multiple plates so that we could share the food. Once again, taking the extra effort to make the evening go well. My wife is from northern Italy, and the food can be as good as we could get there. The ravioli was some of the best I have had in years, and the prosciutto and melon appetizer is as good as I have ever had. The Brunello di Sonoma was a find and I highly recommend. Great wine, food, location and night.

My last time at North Beach Restaurant, I sat in the upstairs dining room and thought it was very elegant. This visit we sat downstairs and I was at first unsure of how I would like this, ( it looks a little like you are going into a cave), but I really enjoyed my dining experience. Our waiter, I think his name was Nino?? was fabulous and made the evening. He gave us a tour of the prosciutto cave. Really enjoyed the evening and will return.

I understand reservations can run behind, but we had to wait 45 minutes past our reservation time - so I think that's a bit too long. After we finally got seated, the waiter made us feel like we were an inconvenience and that he had to tolerate us, so that's unfortunate. I felt guilty when I had to ask a question about the menu. The food, however, was fantastic! I rarely treat myself to a pasta dinner, and I'm glad I did that night because it was so delicious!

We are very accustomed to the finest Italian food in NYC and I very comfortable saying the meal at Northbeach rivals if not beats some of the best I have ever had. This place is a gem and a must try. The cave aged prosciutto is simply amazing. The veal saltim boca and pasta Della casa were beyond perfect. I cannot say enough wonderful things about our meal and experience.
