  • "I always feel special when I come to this restaurant -- just as soon as you walk in the door, they are ready and anxious to seat you and make you comfortable. Saturday night we were seated downstairs and it was a very relaxing, comfortable room and notably quieter than the upstairs dining area. There were three of us and I ordered the eggplant parmesan (which was excellent), one friend had fettuccini alfredo and the other friend had cannelloni. Each loved their meal and the service was exceptional."

  • "A family favorite for over 30 years, we ALWAYS plan an extra night to visit whenever we travel through SF. Start with prosciutto and melon, the house pasta is simple and delicious, lamb is a favorite, saltimbocca has been outstanding lately. Finish with zabaglione to cap off the meal. The house wines are delicious; the signature brunello pairs well with most pastas and meats. Always listen to the wait staff- they will steer you towards the days best dishes; Daniel is hands down our man! We have noticed that whenever the Bishop entertains he brings his visitors and entourage to North Beach. Can you get a better recommendation!?!?!"

  • "We were hoping to have a leisurely meal, but the service was way too fast. It is true that the waiters are very attentive, there are lots of them. We felt very rushed, the waiter checking in several times as we were looking over the menu. The wine menu is huge, so why give us such a large multipage choice if you don't want us to read it? The food came very quickly, entree immediately as they were clearing the appetizer plates. I'm not sure why they were in such a rush, the restaurant was not full."

  • "The North Beach Restaurant is one of the oldest and one of the best restaurants in SF. People don't talk about the North Beach Restaurant because it's been around so long. But if you want amazing quality Italian food, this is the place to go. We started off with the calamari salad, which cooked calamari in a vinaigrette. We also had the tomato with anchovies salad which was terrific. THe pasta primavera was fantastic, which they split for both of us. And the stuffed petrali sole was amazing with the crab and shrimp and sauce. But the winner was the colossal scallops. Just Great Food! The chocolate cake was exceptional and the tiramisu was good, too. Overall, this is one of my favorite SF restaurants."

So many options and so many ways you could prepare everything. I'm a huge minestrone fan and theirs is to die for! All the meals our group had turned out fantastic.   • "I usually call to make a reservation but since I have been using open table I just decided to use it. We always request a table by the window so I did this again. When we arrived they had our reservation but stated that they do not acknowledge any seating requests from Open Table. I was told that I would have to call and request a reservation in the future if I wanted preferred seating. I was a little disappointed. So next time I guess I will not use open table for this restaurant."

  • "The menu carries a long list of pastas - all hand made. We had the house special - Della something - ground veal, tomato sauce, yummy. Also the pasta with scallops - another tasty dish. Started with a marvelous Caesar salad and ended with cappuccino. Too full for dessert, but have had the zabione before and that was delicious."

  • "We were very disappointed by our visit to your restaurant. We waited over 20 minutes for our reservation, which was frustrating but not the most egregious party of the meal. Our server told us about the appetizers and told us he could do a combination of two appetizers for us, which sounded great, until the bill came and we found that we had been charged for two appetizers. Then my girlfriend asked to substitute spinach for potatoes with one dish and was told they could do that, but then we were charged $10.50 For a side of spinach, which we were not informed of at the time of ordering. The food was quite good, though the furtive up selling was unacceptable."

  • "Our waiter was amazing. Very classy with a great attitude and suggestions. He knew his stuff inside and out. Appetizers were prosciutto with melon and tomato with mozzarella. They were good but very basic, and for what they were overpriced. Literally a piece of prosciutto on a piece of cantaloupe for like $12. Could have added something a little extra. Though it was good and because it was so easy I served it at a party the next day. However the main courses were excellent. Overall we were very satisfied and it was a great valentine's day dinner. Would go back."

Three of us ate different chicken entres, and all three of us felt they were mediocre. The other two members of our party were happy with their choices. I must note that the service was excellent."

  • "This was one of the few restaurants that was available at a selected time slot of 4:00PM on Valentines Day, as we needed to be at The Cheese School by 6:30PM and wanted to enjoy the meal and not just get through it ! Open daily 11:30AM through to 11:45PM. Great service and very personable. The drinks, 2 great Manhattans in beautiful, but tiny glasses (half the amount you'd expect) at $12 each. We started with the Tagliatelle with Pesto $20 (split) which was very good. I then had the Spaghetti Carbonara (just OK) $22. My wife had the Veal Sweetbreads (just OK) $26. The food was good, but NOT lets make another reservation while we're still here good. Note: They seat around 250 (including downstairs) which can become a production line I'm sure"

We were seated in the far side, and watched as they carted tables outside, and disassembled two big tables right next to us, and reset them for evening. Oddly enough, the bread was stale- hard to justify in San Francisco! Entrees were notable for the vegetables. My husband's scallops were better than my broiled halibut. Staff was brusque, and we honestly felt we should eat fast and get out of there!"

  • "Title says It all. Once this was a great place to go. Now going through the motions for the tourists Just look at the carpets on way to the restrooms to see it clearly. Dirty and greasy - no restaurant that cares would let things slide so far. Peep into the kitchen and you will regret it Food is unworthy of Italy. Stale bread, Burrata chewy. Tomatoes unripe. And that was today's special. Main course. Veal chop and lamb okay but no sauces, gravy, jellies in the house. Veg awful. Potatoes undercooked. Desert the only high point. Tell the manager you expect more - hopefully they can fix this"

  • "The distinction here was that the reception was warm and sincere - almost as if we entered the home of the greeters. I was worried about a touristy feel, but that feeling was alleviated as we scanned the room and could tell that most were local and frequent visitors. The food was terrific and service was also very good. It was a great choice."
