A word from Nonno Tony's World Kitchen
Galveston Restaurant Group presents Nonno Tony's World Kitchen, offering Italian fusion, Creole and traditional American fare. The open-style kitchen features a steam kettle bar and brick ovens. An extensive beer and wine list is also featured in "Paulie's Bar."

"Nonno," Italian for "Grandfather," is attributed to Galveston Restaurant Group's patriarch, Tony Smecca (father of owners Joey and Johnny Smecca). "Paulie's Bar," another family namesake, is named in honor of Danny Hart's father, the third partner of Galveston Restaurant Group.

Nonno Tony's world flavors feature technique honed at other Galveston Restaurant Group properties.

Galveston Restaurant Group has brought the "art of good eating" to patrons since 1997, with restaurants including Saltwater Grill, Mario's Seawall Italian Restaurant, Papa's Pizza, Sky Bar & Sushi and Little Daddy's Gumbo Bar

  • "Don't bother coming to this restaurant! You can tell it's a newer restaurant b/c the staff still doesn't know what they are doing, the food does not taste good whatsoever and the menu does not have much to choose from! Go to Willie G's or Fisherman's Wharf over this restaurant any day! I'm sorry to be so rude and blunt but they they couldn't even make a caesar salad taste good...it was the nastiest caesar salad I've ever had!"

  • "My family and I were looking forward to trying Nonno Tony's.... as its a relitively new restaurant on the Island. I was EXTREMELY dissapointed by everything but the service (our waitor was very friendly). Our drinks were watered down and terrible... I had a cosmo and my dad had a vodka tonic... we weren't sure if there was even any vodka in either... and my mom had a margarita, which just tasted like bad mix. The appatizers were bland and not even warm, and the oysters on the half shell were terrible... they were so small that we couldn't tell which ones we'd already eaten... and the shucker did a terrible job because none of them were disconnected from the shell! Our entres were nothing special either... we will never go back!"

  • "Admittedly the place was empty, poor weather had kept most of the patrons away, but when we got there my wife and I found the staff to be exceptional & very accommodating. the waiter had the menu memorized and provided excellent recommendations, he was attentive but never pushy. The food quality was exceptional both my wife and I were pleased with our experience."

  • "Whenever we visit Galveston and have time for lunch/dinner, Nonno Tony's is always on our schedule. We visited when they first opened in 2012 and have enjoyed lunches and dinners several times since then. The food is always very good and the staff are very attentive. Someone from management always stops by to check on everything before the end of the meal. Would recommend highly."

  • "We were seated and our waitress came to take our drink orders. We had questions about happy hour and she seemed unable to answer them. We ordered cocktails and two appetizers and they were out much quicker than our cocktails. Our appetizers were just okay, not nearly as good as on our first visit. Drinks finally arrived and our entrees quickly followed. My husband's pizza was terrible. It had some liquid sitting in top, my mussels were somewhat flavorful but many were unopened. My daughter ordered a $28 steak medium well and it was overlooked and tough. As we were finishing up we heard a waitress greeting the table next to us sharing the evening specials. We were not made aware of any specials....wish we would have had that option."

  • "Unless you like loud surly waitstaff and the ambience of McDonalds I would stay away."

  • "Waiter came to the table "In a funk, don't know why, but not sure if I will be able to get out of it. During the entire experience, did not see any wait staff smile except when they interacted with the managers. Ordered of a special menu for Restaurant Week, one dish we ordered was still partially frozen, and at 5:30 they out. Had to order something else. The food tasted and had the freshness of something purchased at Sam's Club."

  • "We have been to Nonno Tony's twice now. Both for special occasions, and we have enjoyed both visits very much. The food is very good and the service is outstanding. Both times the manager stopped by and chatted with us to make sure we were happy. Will go again and we recommend eating here to our family and friends."

  • "I have been wanting to go to this new restaurant. No one that I asked had ever been there. Well, it is another place to go in a pinch. It is just ok. We must have had a new server. Other servers kept coming by and asking how things were. The food was fine. However, if I am paying over $30 for red snapper, I am expecting tablecloths.. I will try this place for lunch with the girls one day. It probably be a good choice for that."

  • "Food was good when we finally got it One member of our party didn't receive her entree until everyone had already finished eating."

  • "First time there in a party of six. Menu has a variety, including some vegetarian goodies. Service was outstanding, attentive, but not in your lap. Noise level was high from excited conversations going on at the bar and other areas, which made conversation across our larger table a bit difficult at times. They could moderate this and keep the overall feel of the place by hanging some sound absorbing art on the wall (e.g., tapestries). Prices were reasonable. A definite will return to and recommend to others."

  • "Dined here for restaurant week and the selection on the menu was very impressive. Ordered the pan-seared redfish which was amazing! The service was flawless. An incredible lunch and will dine at Nonno Tony's very soon."

  • "This was our third time visiting Nonno's, only to be impressed again! The food was spectacular, ordered to fit our needs (allergies), the service was exceptional, and overall we had a wonderful night. My husband and I enjoyed the red snapper with vegetables, prepared Mediterranean style. Our guests enjoyed a huge bowl of gumbo (great, dark roux), and meatballs and pasta. I love sitting at a table here, or hanging out at the bar. The staff is unbelievably nice and professional, and it is a fun, vibrant scene (and we were only one out of a handful of tables there). Definitely recommend!"

  • "One of the best places I've never heard of to eat at. I was not familiar with this place nor was anyone I asked. I was trying to find a decent place to take her for our anniversary so I took a shot in he dark and chose nonnos. It was a great choice and payed off"

  • "A few things to note: 1) No kids menu - not a big deal but it something to note 2) The main dish was just ok but the wedge salad was awesome 3) The service was very good but we got an adult size plate of pasta for the kids and the waiter offered to have it split in two small plates- what he didn't tell us is that it was an additional $10 cost hence the poor service rating."

  • "We were looking for a good steak closer than Perry's and the ads and menu for this place looked worth trying. (The advertising presents very 'upscale')) But more of a lunch spot, lots of families, casual atmosphere. Yes, it's Galveston, but there's a disconnect here somewhere; just not as expected. Food was fine, steak okay, service okay, but no where near Perry's level. Very annoying to have persistent bugs buzzing our $30 steaks. Dinner for 3 with some wine was over $200 with tip."

  • "Was disappointed with experience. Does not live up to advertising. Ordered a filet at 6:00 PM on Saturday and was told they were out. The only steak available was a NY strip. It was good but not outstanding. The restaurant has little character or ambiance and was very noisy."

  • "This was our 4th visit and we have yet to be disappointed. Food and service was great. Every time we visit we get the Orange Balls (Arancini Balls) hard to find elsewhere and my wife says they are as good as the ones her family make in Sicily. Go Eat Enjoy"

  • "We will definitely go again. Enjoyed our first visit. The food was very good and the service was outstanding. Loved the location by the harbor and parking was easy to use and it was paid by the restaurant. We went on our anniversary and the restaurant made it special. Ample food portions, we brought some home for the next day. The live entertainment was great, a very talented vocalist."

  • "This was our first time to Nonno's and we were very impressed. Our waiter, Calvin, was extremely helpful and knowledgable. His suggestion for a healthy, but very flavorful dish was right on the money!! His service was outstanding. The fish was very fresh and deliciously flavored. We will definitely be back!"
