A word from Nonnina Italian Bistro
With a name that translates from the Italian as "little grandmother", this dining spot offers the authentic cooking of Italy in an elegant ambience. Owner Paul Aniboli collaborated with managing partner Robert DiPierro and executive chef Richard Soriano on a new journey in traditional Italian cuisine with a trendy fine-dining atmosphere. Diners will be immediately impressed upon entering this chic, upscale yet comfortable establishment. Vintage Italian poster art can be found decorating the walls in all areas of the restaurant. The bistro/bar area is very inviting, lined with intimate tables, beige suede chairs and plush leather couches warmed by a fireplace and exposed brick. Rated 3 stars by Newsday's Peter Gianotti, Nonnina provides exceptional Italian cuisine and professional service.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We love that this little place is just around the corner from where live so that we could go out mid week to celebrate my wife's birthday. That being said we felt like we were in an urban, big city restaurant:-) Anyway, the service was excellent, the wine list exceptional. ( 1/2 price bottles of wine on Wednesdays). The calamari friti was one of the best I've ever had and the buffalo mozzarella with prosciutto parma was excellent. I had the jumbo shrimp (looked like little lobster tails) & my wife had the grillled salmon over faro with kale and pine nuts - very good."

  • "I've been to Nonnina several times as it is in the neighborhood. The staff is always accommodating and the service is solid. There seems to be a lot of turn over in the wait staff but they still manage to field a good crew. I rate the food on average as good but they have both some outstanding dishes ( swordfish special) and some not so good. The upstairs is better then down as the bar scene can be a bit much. Nonninas is a good, solid choice."

  • "Upon arrival the hostess took us to a table (party of 5) in the bar? Two elderlys in our party 80+. I declined that table due to the noise level and after a little bit of a negotiation they reseated us in 1st floor dining room. We had a reservation. The service was amazing. Two of us had the lobster ravioli in a beschamel sauce didn't care for it. One had the veal chop Marsala that was amazing, and two others had pasta dishes that were good. Apps were great. Bring the good checkbook bsce prices are high. Dinner for 5 with 2 glasses of wine with tip $390."

  • "We came in as a family of 6 adults & 2 toddlers. The Wait staff was so sweet to the kids. They thoroughly enjoyed their pizza! The food was FABULOUS! From appetizers & salads to the Pasta Bolgnese, the chicken parmigiana, the beef short rib ravioli. I had the ravioli - the meat melted in your mouth, the sauce was to die for and the fresh pasta was so light! YUMMO! Then dessert! Oh my, such deliciousness!!! Thank you for such a lovely evening!"

  • "Great offer on all bottles of wine Wedneaday nights: 1/2 off all bottles. Some great steals at this rate makes Wednesday a great day to done. Service was a bit overwhelmed and has changed some we last dined here, but as usual, the food is remarkable and we will certainly return son."

  • "My wife and I love Nonnina! From the veal meatballs, to the shrimp (I am pretty sure these are baby lobster tails) you cannot order wrong off the menu. We have been to Nonnina on dozens of occasions, from anniversaries, to birthdays, to just a night out, Nonnina never fails! The staff is professional and friendly from the hostess, to the wait staff. Even the valet staff has yet to put so much as a ding in my car! We bring all of our friends, and family here to share in our little treasure. It brings me great joy to repeat throughout dinner "look at what I have found, this gem of Long Island, and I unselfishly share it with you!""

  • "We had a wonderful meal at Nonnina's and the service was excellent. The shrimp, salmon and lamb dishes were terrific. The clams casino was great. An excellent place to celebrate a special occasion."

  • "Food is very nicely prepared and thought out. Nice ambiance. Simplified menu. Veal Chops in general are a little pricey specially for a $45 Veal Parmigiano."

  • "I had dinner with my boyfriend and his parents, everyone loved their dinner. I would definitely go back again as that was my second time there for dinner."

  • "Like many restaurants, Nonnina's really marks up the wine, at least triple retail. But, on Wednesdays, bottled wine is half priced; so, it's a bargain indeed. The bread is delicious; the food is good. I love the salads (circa $12) and the veal meatballs are outstanding. I also love the chicken & shrimp dishes. I've been disappointed in their fish dishes. Their veal entrees, though good, are really over priced ($46). The hostess is charming."

  • "Spent time at the bar before we sat down for dinner. Attentive bar tenders, good wine list and tasty appetizers (veal meatballs and polenta a must!). Dinner was terrific and service was right on! Will revisit again! You must try for yourself! Bring the Bentley, there is valet parking!"

  • "Everyone in our party of four raved that their meals were the best theyhave ever eaten. Grilled Salmon, Veal(2), Rigatoni all excellent. The Chopped salad was out of this world delicious. The service was spot on, and did not go over with their attention toward the table."

  • "always very good. Chef has grat specials and inovative menu"

  • "The bread is great; the food and service are good. The wine is over-priced, but on Wednesdays, it's half price! They removed my favorite shrimp dish from the menu :(. But, they still have the beet salad and the veal mealballs, two of my favorites. The rib eye special did not fulfill our expectations."

  • "There must have been a change in chefs over the last year. We ate there last year (anniversary dinner) and really loved the food. This year, I must say the appetizers were OK, but the entrees were tasteless. No seasoning on a skirt steak? You don't need to be a chef to know that skirt steak needs to be seasoned or else it is TASTELESS. Very disappointing I had the lobster-celery bisque which tasted like mushroom soup. The Skirt steak was served over crushed potato with a cream-cheese like sauce and topped with fried onion. The plate looked nice, which is fine, but there needs to be quality food on it as well."

  • "This is a delicious comfortable very pretty restaurant. My favorite is to sit by the fire for a pre-dinner cocktail. Great for couples or girls night:)"

  • "We had a good wine at a great price (half priced on Wed.). The appetizers....calamari, prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella, veal meatballs & beet salad were delicious. The bread is outstanding. Alas, the fluke special was terrible, and the waiter did not check back to see if we were satisfied. The duck was adequate, but I would not order it again because it is better most other places. The entrees are usually better."

  • "Although still obviously a popular place, we found that returning after about a 6 month absence that we were disappointed in the menu, the food presentation and overall quality of the food. Was OK but not where they used to be...service was great, however. Probably won't stay on my list of restaurants to frequent"

  • "Food was average, not exceptional or impressive by any means. The atmosphere was very nice. Service was unfortunately poor, one waiter started order, another took order and neither served food? and quite often waiter was no where to be found. The restaurant was not crowded. I would not return to this restaurant and I would not recommend it. Menu items were not inexpensive and I expected a better "Italian" dining experience. Also, dessert menu listed price at $9 for mini cannoli and gelato and I was charged $10 for each?"

  • "We always get a good meal at Nonnina's. The Veal Meatballs & Shrimp Oreganata are our favorite items. The prociutto appetizer is also outstanding. They serve the best bread in Suffolk County. If you hit the "half price" wine night, it's a steal."

  • "We love Nonninas. The food is exceptional. However, the wine is expensive; so go on the week nights when they offer half priced wine. The restaurant was empty on a Sunday night probably because it's too expensive."
