A word from Nonna of Italy
Nonna is Italian for grandmother, but besides respect for tradition, this spacious Sunset Strip ingenue is molto moderno. The restrained elegance of gleaming wood floors, paneled walls, and minimalist furnishings is offset by the exuberant energy from the large display kitchen.

Dishes are carefully made from superior ingredients and presented simply in generous portions. The menu showcases excellent products in plates of tangy, imported buratta, or prosciutto and melon. A bowl of orecchiette topped with ground sausage and aged pecorino is nothing fancy but made with care. Lighter Californian fare like thin-crust pizza and seared ahi tuna can also be found.

A glassed-in wine cellar has a strong collection of reds from Tuscany and Piedmont.

  • "Went here for a Friday night date...and probably won't go back. The restaurant itself is beautiful. High ceilings, big windows. Nice decor. Quirky chandelier. Quiet, but that may have been because it was pretty empty. The food was just ok. The Orecchiette con Salsiccia was mediocre at best. The orecchiette was over cooked, and the sauce was bland. It tasted more like ground beef than spicy italian sausage. The New York steak was better, but not worth the $40+ price tag. Service was...odd. We had to wait for menus. I got the impression that they want people to sit down and have a glass of wine before they look at the menu. That was new for me and a bit odd. We also had to ask for the check 15 minutes after having our table cleared."

  • "just short hop from Century City, we went to Nonna after a movie nite. It was an easy stop with just OK food. It did seem filled with regulars however so they must be doing something right. We had pasta and salads with glasses of red wine. For that evening it was the right choice. I'm not sure I would become a regular myself. With a city filled with great Italian eateries Nonna is not high on my list and since it's not in my "hood" it may be a while till I go back. did like the throwback booths tho"

  • "Wife and I went there for an early dinner celebration. The staff was very courteous, professional and very sincere. The manager actually came by our table and verified that everything was okay, which I do not see too much of these days. The food was excellent. Wine selection was decent too! The tiramisu is divine and this place does have valet parking ($7). Overall, a very enjoyable experience and definitely worth it."

  • "Ambience was great. For the app had the Calamari, which was ok. It was a bit bland for my taste even with the dipping sauces. Entrée, had the spinach and ricotta pasta in butter sauce. That was good , again a bit bland , pasta was cooked perfectly. Desert, apple tart which was quite disappointing, however, the ice cream that accompanied it was very good."

  • "I really wanted to like this restaurant but in the end this was just a mediocre Italian restaurant. We ordered meat and cheese platter for app, which was probably the highlight of the night. For main course we got the steak and lasagna bolognese. Neither stood out, the lasagna tasted surprisingly like chef boyardee. Dont get me wrong, we didnt dislike the place, we both did finish our plate. It Just wasnt as memorable as we expected it to be."

  • "This is becoming my favorite Italian restaurant. Went with my partner Saturday night and, as always, had a great meal and a relaxed evening. We could actually talk and hear each other- a rarity in restaurants in LA these days. I had the beef carpaccio-very fresh and tasty- and the branzino, cooked to perfection! My partner had the tuna appetizer-delicious- and the pasta with the boar ragu-very good. We shared the chocolate torte-very rich and delicious. Excellent service- everybody very attentive. Yes, I'll keep coming back!"

  • "This restaurant, the last commercial building before you enter the residential part of Sunset Blvd in Beverly Hills, is loved by the celebrities who live nearby for a reason: great food and spectacular service, in a beautiful contemporary space. I sort of hate writing about it because I don't want it to get overrun and impossible to get a table. But it's fantastic. I've been a numbers of times and they remember me, give me the servers I request, send over little special treats, etc. it's a restaurant that's equal parts glam and warmth."

(I won't say who since they seem to pride themselves on discretion, but I sat next to one of my childhood idols one night.) I almost hate writing this because I don't want the place to be overrun, but it is a total find."

My starter salad was very generous and fresh - the grated gorgonzola was a nice touch because it meant that you got the flavour without the saltiness. My daily special main of papardelle with mushrooms was so flavourful. The restaurant has very high ceilings so it's not a particularly cosy venue and would be good for a large group."

  • "The service was uneven. At one time we were being rushed while at other times we could not find the waiter. We tried to pay the bill for 15 minutes. We met who I thought be the manager. I asked if he was the manager he replied, "Not really, I am just the guy". Not really sure what that meant. He never actually said, "Welcome to the restaurant my name is......". Nothing. He came around every once and a while. Nice guy. He just never told us who he was. The appetizers were good. The pasta was very good. The steak although the perfect temperature tasted burned. I think it was cooked in a wood oven. It did not taste very good. Overall it was just a strange place. A perfect candidate for a restaurant makeover show."

  • "I love Nonna! It's one of those rare restaurants where one can eat good food and not have to scream at your dinner partner in order to be heard. Everything on the menu is good. They make a fresh, delicious tuna tartare appetizer that I order almost every time I go to Nonna. They always have a fresh fish special... Last night it was Dover Sole which is served with baby broccoli and yummy mash potatoes. All their pastas are good. Last night I had the olive/oil and chili pepper pasta. My husband had the ravioli, which is always homemade and served in a butter/sage sauce. Very, very good. Nonna's is what I refer to as a restaurant that serves honest food. I go there often and am always satisfied."
