Diner Reviews
  • "Went here to celebrate a new job and moving to a new state with my boyfriend. The staff was incredibly friendly and the food was fantastic. We had the east and west oysters and foie gras, all of which were phenomenal! The view was so great! We were front and center to the windows. They even gave us complimentary champagne! Price was definitely reasonable for a fine dining restaurant! I would love to go back and would def recommend!"

  • "I knew the view was going to be great but I was very impressed with the food as well! The service was great and I've already recommended this to friends who was a great night out with great food."

  • "Despite the fact that this was a 2.pm lunch reservation, when we arrived at the restaurant we were told that Nomi never takes 2 pm reservations so there was no reservation under my name to be found. Next, they told us that the last lunch reservation they take is 1:45 pm so basically by the time we got there we could not eat lunch. They had stopped serving lunch by then. This was my b.fs first time to Chicago to celebrate his birthday and we had just gotten off a 4 1/2 hour flight from L.A. This was our first birthday celebration together so this definitely looked very uncoordinated and insensitive on my part. I was extremely embarrassed as I had told him I had lunch surprise for him. We never got to eat lunch here."

  • "Veggie crudités dried out and ugly. California Rolls not fresh and flakey. Asked for window seating for our party of four and we were refused even though several window tables remained empty throughout the evening. For the price this is a disappointment. Probably won't be back."

  • "Always so excited to get dinner at NoMi. It has a small, but significant menu. No matter what you get, it will be good. A seat by the window is always nice, but I also quite enjoy the nice ambiance of the evening tables set back in the corner. Perfect for groups or a good time with some close friends. You simply cannot go wrong."

  • "We went (and wrote a review, 3/15) about four months ago to NoMI. As you may read in the review, we had an excellent time. On our most recent visit this past sunday, the service was lousy. It was a shame, because the woman who had served us last time (of Indian decent) was excellent and she was serving the table next to ours. However, our waiter (a larger stout anglo-saxon type) acted like a disgruntled employee. This was a great shame, since we chose NoMI over Bristol for brunch. The waiter made a number of mistakes, the most egregious of which was to pour some of my drink on me. When he made this mistake, he hardly seemed apologetic. He realized later what he had done and tried to make up for it, but the damage had been done."

  • "The view here is fantastic - for a local or a visitor. However, if you're having more than a drink at the bar, be prepared to pay for the view. The food is good, but for the prices, we expected more."

  • "NoMi made our anniversary celebration with wonderful service, food, wine and views of Water Tower and North Michigan Avenue. A superb meal that included the poached chateaubriand for two was made even more special by the care and attention we received from the NoMi team. NoMi still wows with its menu, service and views. Thank you, NoMi!"

  • "Food was creative, well balanced and interesting. The view was wonderful even on a rainy day. This restaurant is a must for anyone who can budget it in."

  • "It was my first time at NoMi and I can say that I will be back again. The service along with the food were very notable and enough to make me want to go back."

  • "Wow! What a beautiful view overlooking Water Tower Plaza! We could also see the lake and people watch from high above the street. Our sever was very professional and kept the table tidy. I was not so impressed with food. I am a foodie and was disappointed when many of our dishes had the same ingredients. For example, their was asparagus in three of our six dishes. The same goat cheese that was on my mustard greens salad came on my beets with the same hens from my salad. There are so many foods out there and so many ways to be caregiver with them; I don't understand the need to repeats ingredients in multiple dishes in a restaurant of this kind. My husband loved his strip steak, but it was tiny for the price. You're paying for the view here!"

  • "The food and service in the main dining room at NoMi is pretty good. The service in the lounge is a different story. Went here for date night and when we arrived there was a wait. We went to the lounge area to grab a couple of drinks. The bartender rudely refused to let me order drinks from the bar and ordered me to find a table. We waited until another couple left their table, and then waited for another 10 or so minutes for a waitress to come by. The waitress had a major attitude and was very dismissive. We put in our order for drinks, and again waited another 10-15 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Finally, the hostess came to grab us for our table. Bottom Line: do not go to the lounge. Just have dinner in the main dining room."

  • "While I really liked our waiter, everything took forever. The table next to us threw a fit because of it, which was quite distracting. I think there was a large party in the back distracting the staff. It's a shame because it was otherwise wonderful."

  • "From the moment you step out of their exclusive elevator you know you are somewhere special. You are greeted warmly...and things only get better! Your only problem will be trying to determine what was better, the food or the service!"

  • "We had a great time there. We always eat at the restaurant when we visit. It was convenient because it is in the hotel (Park Hyatt). Everything was perfect. Great food with exceptional service. We sat in the balcony with a great view of the city. We were there with our kids and it was perfect. Ask for Sergio. He knows what you need."

  • "Our visit to NoMI was pretty nice. The stand outs of the evening were the cheese and charcuterie plate (best I've ever had, ever!) and the east/west oysters. We were disappointed with the drinks -- they seemed too watered down, especially for the price (most drinks are about $15/ea) and the service was a bit shotty -- the lounge wasn't very busy, but our server seemed to be overwhelmed. Overall, it was a nice visit."

  • "Celebrated my tenth wedding anniversary with my wife! We enjoyed the apps, main course and dessert very much. For apps we got tuna and salmon sashimi plus house salads. For entre we ordered suckling pig and fresh market fish. For dessert chocolate mousse - sinful."

  • "The waiter was very slow and we waited quite a while for service after being seated and then a long time for the wine. The appetizers came before the wine. The sushi was very generous with the rice and we did find a few specks of fish in it. The food was tasteless and unappealing and I chose appetizers for main course but wanted to see how what we ordered came out but once again could not get waiter so I had nothing for a while when everyone else's main course arrived as I could not order. The 6 of us were quiet and ready to leave once main courses were complete as we were tired of exercising restraint with the poor service--it should have been a fun evening at what is supposed to be an upscale restaurant with prices to match."

  • "Receptionist was completely cold and disinterested even though the restaurant was relatively quiet. View from the window table was excellent but was really the only good part of the evening's experience. Menu was limited but food was acceptable. Servers were odd? A local restaurant t we had thought about trying for some time but not one to which we would never return. We dine out three to four evenings a week but there are too many very good restaurants in Chicago to choose from rather than NoMi. To have been at a table other than by the window would have been a complete disaster."

  • "Came for lunch with two small kids. Service was great and accommodating for them. The food was well-prepared and the seasoning and flavors were spot-on. The lunch menu is small but offers enough for most tastes. The sushi is sublime. The burger is messy but tasty. The daily soup was spring pea--delicious. The kids had spaghetti which both kids and adults liked. Our server was very patient with the high energy of the kids."

  • "This is an amazing restaurant with a great view! Highly recommend it. I was not too familiar with a lot of the French words but the waiter was very patient with me and explained everything nicely. He had some great recommendations for cocktail drinks for us. OVerall, a wonderful experience... I can't wait to go back!"

  • "This is a nice restaurant with good food and a spectacular view. But our service was terrible. Our waiter was extremely inattentive. He didn't refill our drinks unless we asked. He was always talking to the man at the next table for long periods and ignoring us. For a nice restaurant, we were very unimpressed with the service."

  • "I've been here multiple times and the last two visits were to the Garden. The outdoor area is gorgeous, but the staff seem ill-equipped to handle the demands of the patrons. Attentiveness, responsiveness and accuracy are all in want. Sure, the distance to the kitchen probably detracts from the response time, but the bar is right there and I don't know how they can consistently get the drinks wrong. I'm sure that the sentiment is shared because the folks at the table in front of us and to our right were frustrated as well - gasping and looking for ways to subtly draw the attention of the staff. I didn't even bother to ask for a credit for the foreign matter in my drink cuz that probably would have taken who knows how long."

  • "Had requested window table for our 40th wedding anniversary dinner with. Martha and was reassured we would get it, which we didn't. Our wedding reception had been held here 40 years ago. Very disappointed our request wasn't honored."

  • "The view from the 7th floor is amazing. Top hat off with impeccable service and delicious seafood and the entire package is top of the line. Follow that with a romantic carriage ride from the horse and buggy folks waiting by the Water Tower and you have a uber memorable night. Follow that with a walk down Magnificat Mile and you'll get shy Chicago is such a great gown."

  • "There was some confusion as to which server had our table. We waited 25 minutes just to be asked if we would like drinks. They attempted to make amends but the anticipation of a great experience was ruined. We were extremely patient as we were celebrating our anniversary and didn't want to attempt to find another restaurant."

  • "A great place to eat in one go the best hotels in Chicago! Park Hyatt's NoMI is wonderful, great sushi and great service. Everything was first class! We have been to lots of places to eat in Chicago and found many to be over rated and over priced, not this one!"

  • "We needed a late night spot for dinner. NoMi has a great menu and very cool location. Right in the heart of the Water Tower Place area of the Magnificent Mile, they accomodated our late requirement and the food was great. Excellent wine list and a nice value for the buck. A definite must."
