Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent service and cuisine from this long-time star of a restaurant. Some of the best fish I have ever had in Chicago; we had both the salmon and the tilefish. Both wonderful!"

  • "We celebrated our anniversary at NoMI and had a very pleasant experience there. Food and drinks are good, service exceptional, and ambiance very nice. I would recommend this place to everyone."

  • "Two friends and I dined on the terrace for brunch. When one of my friends politely alerted our waiter to an issue with her food, his response could not have been more professional. I seriously have never received such incredibly perfect service. Needless to say, the NoMI staff fixed the issue and more than made up for it with their response. Other restaurants can take a page from their book. To top it off, the food and atmosphere were excellent as always. I would not hesitate to continue recommending NoMI -- and I have been telling everyone I know."

  • "Foie gras as appetizer was excellent...wine and service over our expectations"

  • "We shared the red snapper special that included several sides and was prepared table side. Truly one of the best dishes we've had in a long time. Everything about the restaurant was superb -- highly recommend. On a wine note, we drink wine every evening but were not familiar with many on the list. The som was helpful and helped keep us on our price range without making us feel like idiots."

  • "My mom's birthday and high hopes for NOMI. I expected a magical meal, instead it was odd service, variable food and a great view of the Water Tower. The waiter was odd. He started by calling me sir (don't laugh--I look female!), then he didn't remind me to order a side. At the end he embarrassed me by making a mistake. He rang up the bill on a room receipt and didn't tell me. I signed the receipt and then he chased me through the restaurant in a panic (a bit slapstick). The food went from good, the Maki; to bad, the Frois gras on a waffle with jam. it was over cooked (not buttery, stringy), the waffle and jam overly sweet...UGH. Starbucks has a better dessert selection. We had a forgettable almond tart and a cherry thing without flavor."

  • "Wonderful food and drinks. The staff was extremely educated and were available every time someone needed a drink or had a question. Lovely place and I can't wait to go back!"

  • "A great place to meet your girlfriends for lunch. I had the market fish. It was delicious. A really good cup of coffee too."
    Dined on 8/21/2014
  • "We booked a table for the first time outside at NoMi's garden. Of course, to our luck?, the day is overcast and gloomy but we forged ahead and ended up with a wonderful evening. The food was absolutely wonderful (fresh corn chowder, poussin, fresh pasta) and impeccable wait staff. Can't wait to enjoy it under good weather conditions!"

  • "The only reason I am giving this restaurant 3 stars is because NoMi's food menu is lacking. A friend and I had dinner on a Saturday night and found the menu had very little options. However, what we did order was prepared extremely well. Despite this, the rest of our experience was phenomenal! First off, it's on the 7th floor of the Park Hyatt hotel and has amazing views of the Water Tower place. There is also an outdoor dining area that's perfect for summer nights. The restaurant itself is also very posh and the decor is simple but trendy. What the food menu lacks, the drink menu makes up in full force. The cocktail menu is very diverse and there is something for every tastebud. Bonus for the ladies, the servers are incredibly handsome."

  • "Dined here for our 10th wedding anniversary, and it didn't disappoint. We were seated near the windows overlooking the Water Tower which made for a fantastic view as the sun set and the lights lit up. Food and service were timely with very little intervals between courses. The open kitchen also provided a fun distraction as we could watch different dishes be created. I'd definitely return again."

  • "They were off their usual a game when I dined there this past Saturday . Everyone is allowed one pass but with so many choices , consistency must come back . I had not been to the restaurant in about 3 months so perhaps a change in the key players is occurring . For now , it is a perfectly fine restaurant in a hotel . Not spectacular but above average ."

  • "One of the nicest settings enjoyed by any major restaurant in Chicago. Beautiful view of the Water Tower, Michigan Ave and the lake. Excellent service. The restaurant also has a beautiful roof top lounge."

  • "After reading reviews I was so disappointed with the food at NoMi. The oysters were very small and not tasty. The wholesnapper was poorly prepared, served a bit cold and was more crumbly and mushy than flaky and firm. The best thing we ate was the harticot verts."

  • "My wife and I came to Chicago for the first time for a long w/e. We stopped in at several of the local establishments and Nomi did not disappoint us at all. The wait staff, bartenders, and chefs all participated in a well run culinary experience that easily met and surpassed, our expectations. From the unique starters to a Red Snapper for two that wads cooked to perfection. Will try and go back if we're ever in Chicago again"

  • "Our service was outstanding. Can't remember his name..but he was a man from Milwaukee who was very personable and a top notch waiter. The sweet corn chowder was to die for. Highly recommend! !!"

  • "Waiter not knowledgeable and overwhelmed. We made reservations for Garden seating outside through Open Table and when we got there they informed us they don't take reservations for outdoor seating. So we waited for outdoor seating. We were seated inches away from a random loud couple. Ordered seafood platter upon waiter's recommendation bc he told us there were raw clams and there was none when served. We were told they could not accommodate combining a sausage and cheese platter together which we later ordered from room service which is taken from the NoMI restaurant. No mention of our 20th anniversary even though noted on the reservation. We left hungry bc restaurant was recommended for their sashimi which was extremely limited."

  • " Went to NoMi for my birthday. The entire experience was terrific. Our waiter Jay was absolutely wonderful. We ordered wine before dinner and the sommelier, Ken came over to see how we liked it, he gave me some information on my selection that was interesting. When we ordered, we had some additional questions about wine choices so Ken the sommelier came back. He helped us with a selection, which was fabulous. We had a table with a partial view. Just after our appetizer, Jay came over with some staff and said "a table by the windows has opened up, were moving you". We spent the rest of the night with a gorgeous view of the water tower and the pumping station. How thoughtful, they won our hearts! The food was as fab as anything in the city."

  • "NoMi hits the mark for excellent food, hospitality and service. Some of the tastiest sushi that I have ever had."
    Dined on 8/2/2014
  • "This has been recommended and we finally got to dine here. The view was spectacular, and our food tantalizing. The sushi was fresh and tasty, and two of us split cheese & charcuterie great for dinner. It was more than enough. Our Walter was initially attentive, and other servers Kelly water filled and dishes cleared, but the waiter forgot us late in three meal. Disappointing end to an otherwise great evening."

  • "From the moment we entered the establishment via the designated elevator, I noted the outdoor "Garden Dining area/bar" was full of guests and we wanted to get a drink there before dinner, but it was a bit windy, so we opted to head for our table instead. We were greeted and seated by our hostess and marveled at the fabulous view from our table near the window. The vista was unobstructed to our beautiful Lake Michigan, with the Water Tower, Museum of Modern Art and views of Michigan Avenue in between. As day turned to night, we were treated with the utmost care by our server, Joe, and every dish & desserts we were served was prepared, seasoned and plated so beautifully & presented by Chef Keith & Rachel with professional expertise."

  • "Best meal I've had in awhile. From the Oyters to the Stuffed Poussin everything was exceptional. Jay our server was fantastic and the ambiance was fantastic as always. Rarely do I make an early reservation but I missed lunch and decided on an early dinner at 6:00. Loved the initial calm but didn't want it to last too long. Sure enough, by 6:30 the place was full of energy and just perfect. Nomi continues to be a gem and we will definitely be back."

  • "This place was a breath of fresh air literally. The outside experience of the rooftop having a mimosa & banana bread was absolutely terrific. My boyfriend points went up for bringing my girlfriend here. We are going to become regular patrons there. The menu to some people may think it's pricey, but you get top quality service & Delicious food. I see this becoming a headline soon in Chicago Hotels & Restaurants for the Park Hyatt."

  • "Sea bass for two was simplu to die for, but the fruit and mousse dessert was among the best we have ever had. Service was great as well, and the view is hard to beat."

  • "We were celebrating an important birthday and I made a special request on open table saying that and asking for a table by the windows. We got the most amazing table right by the windows. Our server came to our table and immediately referred to he birthday and greeted us warmly. Food and wine were excellent and with a very quiet suggestion to me, the server also brought our guest a beautiful dessert to celebrate her birthday. The staff really made it a special night. Nomi is a wonderful experience and it was really more than we had expected. We will be back."

  • "outdoor as well as indoor dining. Indoors - fabulous tables next to windows for view of historic water tower and lake. service is knowledgeable and professional. limited menu with fresh options. prices however are very high --- really $6 and up for a cup of tea after dessert? Lunch for two including one glass wine each was close to $150 including tip. Close to $30 for a green salad with a piece of fish on it? There are other options in the area for more reasonable prices - we are Chicagoans, not tourists"

  • "Went here to celebrate a new job and moving to a new state with my boyfriend. The staff was incredibly friendly and the food was fantastic. We had the east and west oysters and foie gras, all of which were phenomenal! The view was so great! We were front and center to the windows. They even gave us complimentary champagne! Price was definitely reasonable for a fine dining restaurant! I would love to go back and would def recommend!"

  • "Despite the fact that this was a 2.pm lunch reservation, when we arrived at the restaurant we were told that Nomi never takes 2 pm reservations so there was no reservation under my name to be found. Next, they told us that the last lunch reservation they take is 1:45 pm so basically by the time we got there we could not eat lunch. They had stopped serving lunch by then. This was my b.fs first time to Chicago to celebrate his birthday and we had just gotten off a 4 1/2 hour flight from L.A. This was our first birthday celebration together so this definitely looked very uncoordinated and insensitive on my part. I was extremely embarrassed as I had told him I had lunch surprise for him. We never got to eat lunch here."

  • "Veggie crudités dried out and ugly. California Rolls not fresh and flakey. Asked for window seating for our party of four and we were refused even though several window tables remained empty throughout the evening. For the price this is a disappointment. Probably won't be back."

  • "Always so excited to get dinner at NoMi. It has a small, but significant menu. No matter what you get, it will be good. A seat by the window is always nice, but I also quite enjoy the nice ambiance of the evening tables set back in the corner. Perfect for groups or a good time with some close friends. You simply cannot go wrong."

  • "We went (and wrote a review, 3/15) about four months ago to NoMI. As you may read in the review, we had an excellent time. On our most recent visit this past sunday, the service was lousy. It was a shame, because the woman who had served us last time (of Indian decent) was excellent and she was serving the table next to ours. However, our waiter (a larger stout anglo-saxon type) acted like a disgruntled employee. This was a great shame, since we chose NoMI over Bristol for brunch. The waiter made a number of mistakes, the most egregious of which was to pour some of my drink on me. When he made this mistake, he hardly seemed apologetic. He realized later what he had done and tried to make up for it, but the damage had been done."

  • "The view here is fantastic - for a local or a visitor. However, if you're having more than a drink at the bar, be prepared to pay for the view. The food is good, but for the prices, we expected more."

  • "NoMi made our anniversary celebration with wonderful service, food, wine and views of Water Tower and North Michigan Avenue. A superb meal that included the poached chateaubriand for two was made even more special by the care and attention we received from the NoMi team. NoMi still wows with its menu, service and views. Thank you, NoMi!"
