A word from Nola - Palo Alto
Nola is a bit of New Orleans located in the historic Ramona Street Building in downtown Palo Alto. Our menu consists of Creole, Cajun, and Latin cuisine. New Orleans favorites, such as hurricanes, fresh oysters, gumbo, seafood jambalaya, and étouffée, are just a few of the classics you will find.
The party stretches out over three floors, with seven different funky dining areas. Nola has one of the largest collections of Southern folk art on the West Coast. Come check out what Fortune magazine voted as "the hottest bar in the Silicon Valley." Welcome to the party--grab a Hurricane, a group of friends, wrap yourself in our mardi gras beads and “Laisser les Bon Temps Rouler!!”

We went to Nola as a group of 7. We were easily accommodated. It is a bit loud, so it is difficult to hear at times. The service was excellent and the wait staff pleasant and friendly. My daughter had recommended that we go, as we all love New Orleans cuisine. Got us all thinking about a trip there!

We went here on a Friday night for dinner. The service was great, the gumbo, shrimp and grit's and fish tacos were really good. We also had the Bread pudding with a side of the Carmel cinnamon icecream both of which were very good. Try the ginger julep it is really tasty. Overall a really good experience.

  • Great food, poor reservation

I planned my birthday celebration here by booking a reservation in advance for 8:45pm on a Saturday night. I had a bunch of friends joining for dinner on my special day, and I was very disappointed that we were not seated until after 9:30pm -- over 45 minutes after our reserved time! A manager did come outside to apologize and took $40 off our overall bill of $450 (at least it was something). But what is the point of booking a reservation if you still have to wait for over 45 minutes? We were really disappointed in this poor planning on their side. Despite the late start, the food and cocktails were amazing and the staff was very friendly. Perfect for a flexible date night with my hubby (but not for a large group).

Me and my friend decided to bring his family (who were visiting from India and Australia) here and they absolutely loved it. I love the feel off the place as it's casual and energetic but still classy. The food is good and something different (love the Jambalaya). Our server Jessica was really sweet too!

I took my three teenage boys for dinner. It has the quirky feel of an old New Orleans restaurant. The food portions were more than generous, the flavors superb and all of the menu items interesting. I heard "this is the best..." from each of the boys as they tasted their appetizer and entrée. The waitress was cheerful and helpful -- she accurately described the level of spice in a couple of dishes and, when asked, was willing to share her opinions. You won't want to go here if you're on a diet or trying to lower your cholesterol, but you will have lots of fun. I've lived in the area for 15 years and was surprised to learn that Nola's had been here for nearly 20. Not sure how I missed it for so long, but we'll be going back.

It was game seven of the World Series so the place was PACKED (had no idea when I made the reservation the game would be on)! The room where we were seated was crowded, to many people / tables in a small room; it was stuffy / too warm to be comfortable (we had to ask people to get up from their seats so we could actually get to our table!). Add to the room heat, the spicy food and it was hot, hot, HOT! (almost unbearable.) I ordered the small plate chicken and biscuits - chicken was over cooked / tough, biscuits board hard, the coleslaw was EXCELLENT, but the bacon jam and gravy something else. I have been here before and loved everything I have tried - this night Nola struck out. Only redemption was the shared beignet dessert.

This is our second time eating here. They are very good about meeting our requests for special seating, ie my dad is blind. They made sure we were in the brightest seating area and focused a light on his plate to make it lighter. Very much appreciated. Waiter was friendly and had suggestions for what to order. Fun and festive restaurant to spend time.

we sat upstairs and it seems that the servers spend most of their time downstairs or in the kitchen. I requested water multiple times before one of the servers brought it to my table only after we had received our food. Also it was very hot upstairs which is semi outdoors, it was a cool evening with little wind. It felt as if the heater was blasting, there were fans but even after complaining about the heat upstairs all the wait staff said was they guessed it was a hot night

After passing through an old style entrance corridor from the street, Nola restaurant opens up into a nice central open air court yard with seating around the fountain overlooked by a balcony on all side, also with seating. The service was fast, friendly and accommodating with our 2 and 4 year olds. The food was delicious, the fish tacos being a favorite but the jambalaya or the blackened catfish on grits are also not to be missed.

Decided to check out NOLA based on some last minute YELP research. I was meeting friends after a day at work and stopped at Old Pro for some drinks before dinner. NOLA was a place to be for dinner. There was a lot more seating inside than I had expected. I was use to seeing the bar downstairs packed but did not realize they had an upstairs section inside the restaurant as well. Me and my friend ordered the fish tacos which were surprisingly filling and delicious. We both wanted something on the lighter side which is hard to find at a place that specializes in southern food. My boyfriend had the ribs and fried chicken with a side of fries. The fries were delicious, it had some special seasoning on it which made it even more yummy.

The menu was wonderful, many glueten free dishes to decide from and very tasty. You should be prepared for a loud environment and be place a foot from another table, so privae intimate conversations are IMPOSSIBLE. But, the atmosphere is fun and lively. I would call this a great neighborhood hangout for the 30+ educated start up company type of person. Hope that helps.

Came here for dinner with a friend and shared a bunch of small bites. Had the gumbo, the shrimp and grits, the dirty fries, and the chicken and biscuits. The food came out super fast, but our table was so small that it was hard to fit everything on it. The food was great. Really enjoyed everything, but probably shouldn't have ordered the chicken and biscuits because it was just too much food. My favorites were the gumbo and the dirty fries (basically fries with pulled pork, beans, cheese, etc on it). Service was good. This place has a fun atmosphere, but it is pretty loud.

The food and environment were amazing. The service was good but not great. Some of the party had to wait a while for their food or ask for things on the side since they didn't come on the dish originally even though the menu said they came on the dish. Too many rules in terms of seating only the entire party, splitting the check, and parties over 14 must have a private room with a limited menu and a min of $800 which is way too much. I love this restaurant but never again am I having a group event here. Too many hiccups.

The first time my boyfriend and I ate at the restaurant it was a GREAT experience! The food was great as well as the service and ambiance. We just ate there again and the service and ambiance remained the same but the food was different. My skirt steak was perfect but my boyfriend's meal which included ribs and cornbread did not have that much flavor. I am assuming the chef/cook(s) had an off night with cooking. This will not stop us from eating there again.

When we arrived, the place was packed due to a college game. The host that seated us didn't engage with us at all. She dropped the menus on the table and spoke to another staff member. She never once spoke to us. Our server on the other hand was very attentive throughout our dinner. I had mentioned on our reservation that this was a special occasion. Our family had a pleasant dinner mid-week, with some dishes enjoyable, but some missed the mark. Ribs seemed as though they were boiled then reheated in the oven, with a forgettable red sauce on them, nothing to commend them. Dirty fries sounded great on the menu but the soggy fried potatoes of all kinds did not stand up to the pulled pork and other ingredients. Pulled pork sandwich much better, good gumbo. Basically a good spot for a beer and something simple to eat. Our waiter was efficient and pleasant throughout at this upbeat, energetic place.
