There were four of us and we all had something different. Of course, we sampled each dinner. They were all fantiastic. Service was great. All in all it was the best meal I had while visiting New Orleans (and we had some very good meals). My dinner was the buttermilk fried chicken. The best I have had in many years. Food was hot and you could tell it just came off of the stove. I had the garlic-crusted drum. There wasn't a ton of garlic flavor on my fish, but it was still very good and I loved it even though I am not a huge fan of fried fish. Their signature NOLA cosmopolitan is very sweet and refreshing! For dessert I had the creme brulee, and it comes in three different flavors inside separate cups: vanilla, coconut, and chocolate. Vanilla was the best and you can see all the vanilla seeds at the bottom of the cup, but all them were so delicious, rich and smooth. One was wine expert. Everything pretty much rocked! The wines were terrific--a Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, the squash blossom appetizer stuffed with cream cheese and crabmeat was delightful, and everyone enjoyed their dinner. I had the shrimp and grits and loved every bite! The cappucino for dessert was well made. No one could figure out how to eat the peanut butter and jelly dessert that we tried to share. It needed to be dunked in the glass of milk. We couldn't figure out whether to pour the milk on it to soften it or...what! Great service and wonderful ambience. Of course, I got a list of 8 or so restaurants. I chose NOLA because I did want to experience one of Emeril's restaurants (also because a couple of the others weren't open for lunch on a Saturday). I think I had higher expectations going into NOLA. Don't get me wrong, what I got was great - a very tasty pork cheek poboy - I was just expecting more New Orleans/Louisiana-specific menu items. I mean, really, I can get a Cobb salad anywhere. It would have been nice to have had the option of other sides as well. Again, fries are pretty standard, even those these were very, very good. Several waiters serviced our table and the service was excellent. I wanted to go to a fried chicken restaurant that everyone said was the best. I never had the chance to go there so I decided to have the fried chicken at Nola. Pricey for fried chicken but definitely worth it. The chicken was crisp and juicy but not greasy. The candied mashed sweet potatoes were delicious. We sat inside on the second floor at a table for two in the middle I would say. The service was outstanding and so was the food. I would highly recommend to anyone! A sufficiently broad menu yet not excessive on choice. Fowl, beef, pork, seafood and vegetarian are all here. Service staff are well trained, ARTICULATE, know the menu well, and appropriately attentive without being annoying gnats. The wine list is robust though noticeably high-priced. I could do without paying $90 for a bottle of 2010 Goldeneye Pinot Noir. C'mon. And, it's LOUD!
My clients were first timers and loved it. "This is the best duck I've ever had." was the comment of one client. The other client had the drum, which she had never eaten before and thoroughly enjoyed it. Shrimp and grits for me - I'm a Southern Boy. It is a very good -- not great -- casual restaurant in the French Quarter. The trio of creme brulee dessert is amazing. The large pork chop is one of the best entrees. Stuffed chicken wings are always fun. The only complaint is that, on a Friday night, the sommelier was not on premises; so, with a huge wine list, we tried unsuccessfully to get information and recommendations from the friendly but completely uninformed and unknowledgeable waitstaff. It was a busy night and with all the conversations at all the table is was noisy. It was hard to carry on a conversation.
