NOLA oyster barDelicious food and friendlyDelicious food and friendly service for Mother's Day. Our only issue was that the prix fixe menu for brunch hadn't been posted on the restaurant's website so we were surprised upon arrival. The manager was extremely accommodating however, and we all really enjoyed our meals! We'll definitely return for a different special occasion.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMTry a taste of Louisiana @ Nola'sI really liked Nola's. The dining area has a very metro cozy feel to it. The food was delicious! There were four of us and we tried a variety of the "not so small plates". The "greens" were tasty, tender and well seasoned like you would find collards in the south. The fried oyster was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, cooked well and seasoned perfectly. The lobster and cornmeal waffles were wonderful. The sweetness of the waffle really complemented the lobster, and the fried brussel sprouts with a hint of maple goodness were awesome!! I want that recipe! I have to say that we enjoyed every dish we tried; and also want to say that the service staff was attentive and friendly and knew the menu which was very helpful.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrificMy wife and I were both impressed with the quality of food and interesting menu choices. I was skeptical but the blackened shrimp with pork fried rice my wife ordered was fantastic. The clam poutine was awesome, a must have if you're a poutine fan. Also had the oysters from PEI which were good. For a main dish I had the Poached Lobster & Cornbread Waffles which was extremely rich and flavorful. The food definitely reminded me of The Whelk in Westport where we had eaten a couple weeks earlier. Prices are much lower here though and the atmosphere is much trendier. The train rumbles by every 15 minutes or so but since it's not a quiet restaurant and has a vibrant bar scene it wasn't disturbing. My new favorite restaurant in Norwalk!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic fun!Top notch raw bar featuring exotic delicacies and a surprising menu with exciting tastes and classic New Orleans cuisine.Great signature cocktails and friendly service too!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe restaurant is a greatThe restaurant is a great addition to SONO. The menu provides a unique flair to its selection of Louisiana cuisine with New England influence. The Clam Poutine is delcious. Its a winning combination of clams, bacon, cheese, and other ingredients over fries. The lobster corn waffle is NOLA's take on the Chicken and Waffle from the South, and this offering over delivers. Plenty of lobster, a unique combination, delicious! The brussel sprouts are mixed with maple syrup and bacon. They are delcious, and if I was served this as a kid, I would always have eaten my sprouts. The oysters were fresh and delicious. After all I shared an entree-the scallops which were served with thin sliced ham-outsanding. Food=great.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent restaurant, especiallyExcellent restaurant, especially the staff. It's nice, well decorated space but they need a quiet er place to put baby boomers so they can enjoy the place and maintain what little hearing they have left.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting, flavorful and uniqueOur waiter recommended the mussels small plate for an appetizer. Excellent preparation and generous portion that was enjoyed for our group of four diners. The lobster/waffle dinner was excellent as was the scallop entrée - also recommendations from our waiter. Limited wine list, but some nice options at reasonable prices.
There is a main room and a back dining area that seems isolated and a little dark. We requested a booth in the main room and are glad that we did although the hard surfaces in the brick-walled room make this a noisy place to dine. Even so, the quality of the food more than made up for the noise level. Will definitely put this on our list of favorite spots in SONO.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNOLA is a welcome new diningNOLA is a welcome new dining spot in SoNo (South Norwalk, CT). Inventive menu (lobster waffles) with stand-outs (massive burger!).
My wife and I were joined by another couple - perfect setting. Highly recommend it!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMService was outstanding.Service was outstanding. Food was OK. We would go back for a drink but the wine was $12 per glass and only one choice for Chardonnay. Too pricy.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLike New Orleans in Norwalk.Like New Orleans in Norwalk. Much needed quality restaurant serving interesting food with New Orleans flair. Wait staff is very friendly and very professional. Definitely don't miss.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMVery nicely done! The menuVery nicely done! The menu is eclectic, diverse and has something for everyone. We have not have a bad dish. Great presentation, great flavors. Bring a appetite and order all different kinds of dishes to try. This one is going into our rotation! Yes, it is extremely loud in the bar area, but you can talk later. Enjoy!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing sauces require bread!Food was outstanding. The executive chef also works at The Whelk in Westport, so you are getting all of his inventiveness without the ridiculous price tag, and the portion sizes were way more generous! The Lobster and Waffles is as phenomenal as the reviews say.
My one complaint that management needs to get on top of is BREAD. Our table of 4 ordered mussels and an oyster bake as apps, and the broth and sauce were so good, they needed lots of bread to soak them up. The mussels came with ONE slice, so we requested more, and got ONE more piece. Um, it's BREAD. Charge me if you want, but come on! The waiter was so embarrassed, he quickly brought out four more and joined in on our laughter. Super noisy place, but fun for a night on the town.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat surprise - great foodKnowing this was an SBC place, I went in with moderate expectations (been to too many places where I am a huge fan of the chef but the creative cooking I enjoy has been replaced with whatever the owner thinks I want). BIG surprise. This is not a bar food place, the food is way beyond that. Lobster and waffles, pork belly, fried chicken, steak - all cooked perfectly, nicely seasoned, great sauces, ample portions. Menu lets you order all over the place, big meal, small bites with a drink etc. What scored BIG in my book? The music was so loud we could not hear each other talk (not a problem after 9 but at 7, we are there to chat and eat, not hang at the bar). The very kind server had the music toned down. Wow! Will certainly be back!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely amazing food, willAbsolutely amazing food, will definitely be back again.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Addition To SONO - +++++Found NOLA on opentable. It has been open only 5 weeks. Had 9PM rezees. Got there at 8:45 and was asked if we wanted to have a drink at the bar. We decided we wanted to be seated. Maitre'd noticed the request for a quieter table and we were immediately seated in the back room which is far quieter than the main area. Justine was our waitress and appeared within seconds. The two Blood Orange Margaritas were excellent. This menu is interesting and different. So Justine, upon being asked, went through her favorites. The collard greens, the lobster on cornmeal waffle, the Kentucky Fried Quail. The food was excellent. Attentive service by a friendly and welcoming staff. Their burgers/fries looked amazing! We will be back. Highly recommended!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWelcome Newcomer to SoNoWe enjoyed our dinner at NOLA Saturday night; appetizers included fresh oysters, marinated beets and a clam chowder, lots of ham and potatoes, broth-style, very tasty. Mains were griddled scallops, mahi mahi, a big burger and the highlight, lobster waffles. Several drafts and featured cocktails round out the menu. Would like a little more selection for appetizers and mains but it will do for now; very lively area in the front room near the bar, if you prefer a quieter night, opt for the back room.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome and friendly staffAwesome and friendly staff greets you at the door. Oysters are delicious and fresh. Portions are huge and reasonably priced. Blood Orange Margarita is to die for. I had a wonderful birthday, complete with chocolate lava cake a la mode.
