  • "Found this excellent dining experience and made Easy reservation with OpenTable. On arrival, the interior was very appealing and inviting with nice setting on Market Square. Fried green Tomatoes and Alligator apps were very good. The MacDaddy was excellent, so I am told, she wouldn't share. The filet and pork were also excellent. Bar drinks right on. For sure the service by Michael was superb. Not quite like being in NOLA (New Orleans, La) for real but recreates some of the feel and flavor from our trip last year. A bit noisy back by open kitchen."

  • "Selected this restaurant as they recently just reopened after a recent fire. My friends had never been but I had been. We loved our food, the outside seating and our service. There was live Jazz that night which was fabulous, but just a little too loud. We had a hard time ordering and talking amoungst ourselves. While we found the band entertaining, we were happy when they took a long enough break for us to chat. Would definitely go again"

  • "It takes a lot for me to say anything negative about a restaurant, but this place was a joke. Food was overpriced & tastes bad. I went here as a business owner because it was in my green apple barter network. I thought they would have treated me better because of that, but it was as if they treated me worse. I will do what I can to keep anybody I know from going here so that they do not have to deal with the same nonsense I did. This place should be ashamed of themselves"

  • "We have had better shrimp and grits and jambalaya at restaurants that do not specialize in Cajun/creole. The fried green tomatoes were great. Also the waitress was pushy--asked three times if we were ready to order appetizers and brought dessert menu while we were still eating entrees"

  • "We went for the restaurant week special menu, and weren't disappointed. The prix fixe meal included a crab cake starter (it was a good crab cake, standard but good), a beef cheek meal which I will get into more detail about, and a passion fruit creme brule (again, good, but not anything I would write home about). The entree for me put the whole meal over the top. The beef cheek was so tender, and it was served on a chorizo puree, which alone was delicious, but together they were out of this world. The shirmp and potato hash on the side was really good, as well. Definitely something that they should consider including on their regular menu!"

  • "If you haven't been to Nola since it reopened, you should definitely go especially for lunch. I am a vegetarian, so Nola was never my favorite place to go to eat, but now it seems like they have a few more options. Their lunch combos are delicious and satisfying. Just enough food to feel full but not to put you into a coma back at your desk. I love the heirloom tomato and roasted corn salad. can't get enough of it! their mushroom panini was also very good too. I love any place with an open kitchen concept... there's no hiding :) The only downside is that the service can be a bit slow at times, so if you don't have a flexible lunch schedule or can't take as much time as you need, keep that in mind."

  • "Headed over to NOLA for restaurant week to give it a shot. Mistakes made from the NY times 100 things restaurants shouldn't do list: - Took a long time to greet upon entry (was early with a mostly empty restaurant) - Removed my empty plate when my buddy was only half-done his - Had to ask for the prix fixe restaurant week menu while being seated, despite mentioning restaurant week in the reservation note Other Issues: - Friend requested no mushrooms, kitchen ignored, and server offered to bring a side plate so he could remove them himself - Main course appeared reheated (beef was slow cooked beef - but was semi-dried out - plated way too early??) - Crab cake appetizer was dry Positives: - Dessert was great (passion fruit creme brulee)"

  • "We visited NOLA for Pittsburgh Restaurant Week. I got the restaurant week special and my wife got the Zapp's Crusted Catfish and the Gumbo Ya-Ya. Everything was good but I must say that the catfish stole the show and was by far the best thing we had. I'd definitely recommend getting that every time. The service was good and I really enjoyed the decor and ambiance of the restaurant. It's definitely nice to know there's a touch of New Orleans here in the 'Burgh."

  • "We went to Nola for restaurant week, knowing we weren't going to order the tasting menu. On the tasting menu it mentioned a vegetarian entrée. When asked what it was the waitress had to ask the cook, upon her return to the table, it seemed they hadn't really thought of a vegetarian entrée. What the cook made using the base vegetables in the regular entrée and added a carrot base with asparagus. The result was delicious. Another member of our group did have the tasting menu and enjoyed her beef tongue. We also had the catfish entrée from the menu, it was enjoyed. I was not impressed with the pork itself, which was to be cooked medium and looked rare in some places, the sides were delicious. It did take awhile for our food to arrive."

The music was okay did not know the artist but I am not familiar with any local pittsburger jazz band. I will be coming back again with my girlfriends and husband.   • "While the food here was good, our server definitely made the entire evening. He made sure the courses flowed, warned us of an extended wait times for the beignets and was engaging the entire evening. Mark the manager visited with a bad joke to fill a noticeable gap in courses. From the cocktails to the coffee everything had the right amount of creole flavor. The Jambalaya packed a significant but perfect amount of heat and we understand why the MacDaddy is the most popular dish full of creamy deliciousness. The beignets were the perfect end to a wonderful evening."

  • "The food and the location was really good for lunch. I put a note that I only had 45 minutes for lunch but ended up leaving after an hour even though we ordered our meal as soon as the server came. The server felt like he didn't really care. He was only there to take the order. He gave us our drinks after 15 mins ( which is only water). He wasn't the one that served the food and only came back to ask if we are okay when he saw that we were finished eating. I appreciated the bus boy more because we saw him more than our server."

  • "The staff was very friendly and efficient. Our server was a gem. She was very helpful with the menu items, and made a few suggestions based on our preferences in the types of food liked. For an appetizer I ordered the NOLA salad, which was very good. My entrée was the pork tenderloin. The combination of the meat with the side sauces was amazing. It was an odd pairing, but the flavor was wonderful. My dining partner had the gumbo ya-ya as an appetizer and jambalaya as an entrée. We will be back soon."

  • "I cannot wait to go back! I am allergic to gluten and the pork tenderloin is one of several items you can enjoy at Nola gluten free. The beans and rice appetizer is also gluten free and delicious. For dessert the sorbet was a perfect finish. I really enjoy and repeatedly visit restaurants like Nola that can completely accommodate my allergy. We will be back!"

There was a minor mishap, which the server rectified apologetically, pleasantly and efficiently. The Manager appeared, unbidden by me, to ensure problem was corrected. Them the comped us dessert. Super service; great and interesting food. I would definitely recommend, and will return again."

  • "The restaurant was very loud due to the bar scene. Later in the evening they had live music which was a nice touch. The soup was really good. The waiter never brought over and bread. When we asked another server for bread we got some stale bread stick type things. The main courses were good. The New Orleans theme means they have different choices than just the meat and fish standards."

  • "NOLA was a great choice for dinner! As a lover of all things New Orleans, especially the local cuisine, I didn't have many expectations going into NOLA (as it is pretty far removed from Louisiana, etc). However, I was extremely pleased with my food, the service, and the ambiance. Everything was really well done and the service was excellent. I especially loved the decor. It felt as though you were dining right in the heart of the French Quarter. I highly recommend this restaurant for lovers of Cajun and Creole foods and ANYONE local looking to be transported to another time and place with your tastebuds. Very happy to tried NOLA. What a great experience."

  • "Overall excellent dinner. Initially service slow at getting food ordered. However once ordered very fast. I am from the south so used to cajun food. Very good alligator appetizer. Frog legs would be better fried than grilled. Jumbalaya excellent. I told them to add more spice and it was extremely hot but very good taste. Gumbo soup very good also. My only complaint is the bartender is very light on neat drinks for single barrel bourbons especially when considering the price. He could learn from Frank Sinatra in what 2 fingers means for a neat drink. Outside dining great with a great scenic view of the square. Inside very nice also. Loud but still easy to carry on a conversation.Staff exceptional and very accommodating."

  • "Our post-theater dinner was twice interrupted by false fire alarms, requiring that we vacate the building. Taking cocktails to Market Square set a wonderful, casual tone. Jayla and the entire staff made the absolute best of the situation. Kudos. Back at our new, outdoor table, we enjoyed ourselves and a wonderful meal of Steak Salad, Jambalaya, Pork Tenderloin and Shrimp and Grits, each one outstanding. Desserts were great. too.   • "Arrived just as they opened on Sunday July 20th, 2014 and was seated promptly. Ordered Red Beans and Rice as an appetizer, the Seafood Jambalaya as the main course. Both were excellent. Service was attentive but not bothersome, my server Wendy always refilling my drinks as needed. I was so full I couldn't even attempt dessert, even though it was free because it was my birthday! By the time I departed the restaurant it was getting busy, so be sure to call ahead or make reservations online. I would definitely return here without hesitation. There is also space upstairs for large groups and I was told it was themed as a Speak Easy. Bathrooms very clean. All in all, a very positive dining experience at NOLA on the Square. Highly recommended."

  • "The food and wine were exceptionally good!! Our waiter (Allen) was tremendously helpful, knowledgeable, kind and patient!! The music was good but incredibly loud! We dined at a booth with a wall in between us and the band so we could talk. I'm in the symphony and get complaints from our audience about the volume level mostly at our Pops concerts. It's also too loud on stage. You're going to have a lot of deaf customers with that kind of decibel level. The quality of the band and singer was fantastic but they don't have to have the speakers up to a level of a 747 jet landing! Thank you, Dave"

  • "Glad to see Nola back after the fire. Seems pretty much the same as before, and the food is somewhat better. The barbecued oysters were fantastic, and the beignets and coffee were a great way to finish the meal. The wine selection was limited, but certainly sufficient. Noisy, but that's to be expected."
