Diner Reviews
  • "We dined at Noisette on 4/4/14. The meal was one of our best of dining experiences in the US, and it was the equal of some of the Michelin starred restaurants where we've dined in France. The courses were imaginative and tasty. The hedgehog mushroom soup was incredibly intense with a nice touch of truffle oil. The Japanese style marinated fish with Meyer lemon custard was unique. The lobster poached in butter over rice with celeriac sauce was exquisite. The morsels of red meat were superbly presented. We opted for the wine pairings, all of which nicely complemented the courses. Particularly notable was a pinot noir ice wine that was served with dessert. The service was appropriately attentive, and the explanations were welcome."

  • "For the second year in a row, we celebrated a special event here. The food is is excellent, and and the wine pairings wonderful. The way way the chef creates their their tasting tasting courses makes for a wonderful wonderful dining experience. Combine with staff who go the extra mile to make sure your every desire and need are met. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "6 of us dined on a Thursday night. Thought it would be more crowded but it wasn't at all. The Service was friendly and attentive even though there were only two people in the front of the house. The Chef came out to serve on several occasions. We had the 9 course chef menu which was very good. Most things worked well, Mushroom soup was wonderful, and rich. Butter poached lobster was well executed, Smoked Steelhead was great. Toratelle was not exciting. Grilled octopus was tender and well done, the Wagyu course was ok, the meat was fine but not unbelievable. Overall, a very well executed meal, a good deal for the price, I thought."

  • "Absolutely fabulous! These folks know how to cook. We had the 6 course tasting menu and thoroughly enjoyed everything from the first bite until the last. We have been to many fine dinging restaurants and I would say Noisette can compete with the best of them. Tucked away in a little house in NW Portland it is very unassuming indeed. The plating was beautiful for each course. If I had to pick a favorite course it was the Hamachi -pure spring on a plate, followed closely by the butter poached lobster risotto. Keep it chef! We'll be back."

  • "We went to Noisette for the second time last night. We both had the chefs tasting menu with the wine pairings. The dishes were prepared perfectly, the presentation was inspired and the wine pairings we loved. Great service with professional touches. This is on par with Gary Denko in San Francisco and maybe the best restaurant on the west coast. We will be back and bring our friends."

  • "Took my sweetheart to Noisette on a quiet night. Sat in the cozy Chef's Counter in front of the bar/kitchen. Menu consists of 2 choices: Six Course or Nine Course Chef's Tasting Menu. Usually everyone in the same party would be asked to order the same menu so that the courses could be served uniformly across the table without delay or mistakes especially in busy nights. But the Chef was able to accommodate our wish and prepared one of each for us. We both enjoyed the Lobster and Roasted Octopus with the accompanied distinct and delightful sauces and mushrooms. I especially enjoyed the Duck Liver and the Wagyu Culotte paired with a Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Each dish was beautifully plated and presented. A wonderful evening has been had."

  • "The presentation and preparation of the food is comparable to the best restaurants in the world. The chef's artistry and craft are exceptional! We have had two dinners spread apart by 7 months and each was a visual and taste treat and the small dining room creates an intimate atmosphere that accentuates the pleasure."

  • "Celebrated my birthday and if could not have been better. It is one of the best meals I have ever had. Everything about it was great. I would highly recommend it for any occasion."

  • "with only 2 price points $75 per person for 6 course - or $105 per person for 10 course - one needs to be ok with the budget before sitting down - that said - totally worth it - experience, service, flavors - probably the best I've experienced in Portland"

  • "Our palates were in for a delight as we noshed on beautiful & tasty morsels of food. The bread that they bake there is SO DELICIOUS!! This a very classy restaurant. Extremely happy that we found it!"

  • "This was my second experience and it was good as the first, if not better. A cozy environment to enjoy some of the best preparations In Portland. If I lived closer I would dine there on a regular basis."

  • "If you judge restaurants based on quantity of food rather than quality and you're looking for a cheap night out, Noisette is not for you. But if you appreciate delicious food, perfectly prepared, served by courteous, friendly staff in a beautiful, tranquil atmosphere, this is the place. What a treat to enjoy a leisurely meal, to savor each individual course. The ability to converse in normal tones and not having to compete over other diners' conversations is a rare treat in restaurants these days. Noisette is the complete fine dining experience. The best meal I've had in over a year."

  • "It was definitely a night to remember. Each of the 7 courses we had was exquisite and so enjoyable. Portions are just the right size and you look forward to each and every bite. One of our top favorites in town."

  • "service is consistently kind, gracious, but painfully slow, wine pairings arrive ahead of the paired dish and there is such a lag that things become uncoupled. Which is a shame because the food is first tier, brilliantly composed, beautiful . Only other complaint is no music, so when the conversation quiets you hear a lot of kitchen noise and a hollow silence under that. a little soft Mozart or jazz would enhance"

  • "By far the best restaurant experience I have had in Portland."

  • "Best food in Portland. Outstanding wine pairings with tasting menu. While on the higher end of dinner prices for Portland, it is very fairly priced compared with similar fine ding spots in other cities."

  • "Some of the plates were outstanding. Others were extremely salty and/or overpowered by truffle."

  • "In Portlands seemingly endless foodie scene Noisette creates a nice change to the pace. Relatively quiet and tame, the restaurant produces an excellent array of small dishes each with several ingredients to bring balance to the plate. I would highly recommend the wine pairings as they are generous and typically were perfectly suited to each course. A bit pricey but worth the treat."

  • "Service was perfect Food was excellent We added the wine pairing to our meal which was very enjoyable and well complimented...This is a pricey menu but well worth it for the special occasion..I recommend checking their web site out for a view of their current menu...You will not be disappointed!"

  • "We had a fabulous Valentine's Day dinner (on the day after Valentine's day, which happened to coincide with our 30th anniversary celebration). Only such a conjunction of events would have tempted us to spend $125/person on a meal, especially when we could not get a reservation before 9 pm. In the event, they were able to accommodate us 30 minutes early, which was gracious and helpful. The food was truly delicious, with each individual dish exquisite in both flavor and presentation. Hamachi, steelhead, lobster, risotto, duck, wagyu beef--all were individually perfect, and perfectly sauced. Only one small criticism: the flavor of truffle in nearly every dish was, in the end, overwhelming. I would leave out the risotto."

  • "Delightful evening at Noisette. The food, service and ambiance were all exactly what we expected from this outstanding dining spot in Portland. Valentines Day could not have ended on a higher note w.r.t. dining."

  • "It has been over a year since we have been to Noisette and we forgot how much we love this place. We typically don't go out on Valentine's day, this year we decided to take a chance and we had a fabulous time. The food was outstanding as usual, and even though the place was packed, we didn't feel rushed. The service was attentive and personal and the little extras were charming. Overall an exceptional experience. Thank you!"

  • "We enjoyed an incredible Valentines Day Dinner for our first time here. The food was truly memorable and the wine pairings were inspired with many different wines which were matched perfectly for the food. This restaurant is a high end dining experience on par with the finest restaurants on the west coast. Will be going back soon."

  • "Portland is an endless sea of cool kid restaurants. Most are putting out delicious food but the overall experience flirts with vanilla... Current food network culture seems to be homogenizing every restaurant with rockstar chefs that forget to include the guest in the meal. Noisette is white tablecloth fabulousness. So relieved that an experience of this caliber is still available in PDX. Lovely, delicious fine dining. Food is creative without being over the top. Flavors are pure and thoughtfully integrated. Service was a welcome departure from ambivalent hipsters in flannel. If I were to be picky, the pace seemed slightly rushed... Controlled more by the kitchen than our servers. But not distracting. Overall, well done."

  • "As at the chef-owner's former restaurant (Couvron), the price of the 6- or 10-course dinner (with a choice of paired wines if you wish) is well worth it. You will be rewarded with fantastic, beautifully presented small portions of amazing combinations of flavors, textures, and food ingredients. For a truly special, exceptionally fine meal, presented by competent, courteous, efficient servers in a lovely, intimate setting, this is the place to go. You will have no regrets. (based on my three great dinners at Noisette)"

  • "The food was really good. Service was exceptional. However, the meal took 3 hours because of a long delay between courses. As a result our experience overall was very poor. We are seriously considering never returning to this restaurant again."

  • "Excellent French food. For dinner they offered two fixed price menus (6 or 7 items) with options for the main entrées. Worked well since my wife has a seafood allergy, she chose the beef medallions. Nice small servings of each item, which at the end of dinner will leave you pleasantly satisfied but not overstuffed. The presentation and preparation is delightful. The Chef used unique flavor combinations throughout the service. The staff was very knowledgeable and courteous. They quietly and efficiently managed our table and our service allowing my wife and I to chat without interruption. Expect to spend with 20% tip $250 for two people including 2 cocktails and 2 glasses of wine for dinner. Well worth it for that special occasion."

  • "I really liked noisette in the past. We had been a few times and really enjoyed the ambiance, the food and the owners. It's a little more pricey, but you pay for a serene atmosphere. This last time, it was cold in more ways than one. It was cold inside and the staff was not friendly at all. They weren't explaining dishes and we had to flag them down a few times, with only a few tables. And they were just not really into it. The food is tasty but items are repeated too often. I love truffles and foie, but not in every dish. Also, the dessert menu needs to offer more than soufflés. I hope it can make a comeback."

  • "This is a terrific restaurant addition to Portland,OR. It is exactly what we expected and hoped it would be. Fabulous tastes! Excellent chef preparations. We had the chef tasting menu. Small amounts of exquisitely prepared menu items, beautifully plated and wonderful to taste. Loved the wild mushroom soup, the yellow fin tuna tatar, the unbelievably great risotto and the beef dish!! Great sauces for everything. A fun, delicious and elegant evening. Expensive but great!"

  • "We were there Christmas Eve, had a wonderful time. Two quibbles: the server made a little moue with her mouth when we asked to keep two of the menus (one for each couple) as a memento and the wine steward came by WAY TOO FREQUENTLY to put a tiny dollop of wine in our glasses in an apparent effort to get us to buy another bottle. Otherwise, as on the other two occasions we have been at Noisette (when the menus were given to us and we drank wine by the glass), it was without a false note."

  • "Every aspect of the meal was fabulous. Both my wife and I enjoy well prepared, tasty food. Noisette brought out little (but really just right size) samples of deliciousness. A gruyerre pastry (not one of the official courses) started us off, with drinks and fresh bread to occupy us while we chatted in the quiet, candlelit setting. The pacing of the courses was excellent, giving us time to savor the flavors of the soup, the crab, the fish, the lobster (oh my god, that first bite of lobster was so good), the short ribs / octopus (choice), and the souffle dessert. Just listing the food does not do it justice. Each plate had herbs, oils, sides, decorative flourishes, and its own unique delicious flavor. If you want to treat yourself, try it."

  • "Overall, this is one of the best restaurants in Portland. Creativity and flavor are impressive. This was our 2nd visit and things have changed a bit. They no longer have the 8-course tasting but have changed to one 6-course and one 10-course. Last time we visited the sommelier was amazing, walking us through the course pairings. The som has apparently left and so they no longer have this option. We were disappointed but still had a nice meal. The temp in the restaurant was difficult to control going from blazing hot to frigid cold. Granted, it's an old building and the weather is unusually cold right now. Every course was amazing for me with the exception of dessert, which was just ok. Still, I would go back again and again. This is a gem."

  • "I'd been looking forward to eating at Noisette since hearing of the return of Chef Demes return to Portland. I was not disappointed. The tasting menu was an over the top indulgence. Every course was beautiful and delicious. The service was perfect. From wine recommendations to attentive service to clear/set up for following courses. This was one of my top meals of all time."

  • "We have been to Noisette 6 or 7 times and each time it has been an amazing experience: OUTSTANDING food, terrific service, well paced meal and overall just super enjoyable. Family run that is actively involved from the moment you walk in to the minute you leave. Not to be missed."
