Diner Reviews
  • "Too bad that Noisette is closing. The tasting menu was definitely missed and so much better than the few dishes that were a la carte."

  • "Noisette's menu consists of three a la carte lists (Cold, Warm and Sweet). Sweet is for dessert. This is an intriguing change from the Portland(ia) trend of prix fixe menus and communal tables. If you want outstanding taste/texture/visual structure in a dish, you will find that the portions are just right, and every bite will be satisfying and stimulating to the senses. When I go to a restaurant, food comes first. Everything else must enhance the sensory experience, not distract from it - I very much enjoyed the modern and understated setting (as opp. to haughty or bling-bling), the welcoming staff, and the views of the kitchen, where Chef Tony Demes creates magic. Experience Noisette before it closes, and thank Tony and Debbie Demes!"

  • "Portland is lucky to have a chef like Tony Demes. The food is creatively paired, with marriages of flavors that enhances each element of flavor. The presentation is part of the show; While not overly architectural, it is interestingly presented, with even the decorative swirls being a different flavor to play off the main food item. In Europe, it would be Michelin rated. The menu is focused, and they work with the ingredients at their peak. In Portland, it is the best of what it is: a French inspired fine dining experience. By Portland standards, the pricing is toward the top. Drop the restaurant in San Francisco, LA or Seattle, and it would appear a bargain. All of it is enhanced by Tony's wife Debbie who runs the front of the house."

  • "Prices too high for portion size . Some items very good others not . Uncomfortable due to inadequate AC on hot summer eve. Incredibly poor chocolate soufflé & minuscule rhubarb dessert."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "We are not strangers to Noisette. Tony is a master with food and the presentation is always beyond words. This is only complemented by the staff nd their knowledge of what is prepared in the kitchen as they present it to you at table side. Plan on an evening and don't rush it, great compositions take time and you will not be disappointed."

  • "The flavors, the combinations, the presentation, the service - all fantastic!"

  • "I would rate the food outstanding in every way except that the portions are tiny. Nobody claims they're not, but if one is hungry one needs to have three separate dishes (plus one should leave room for dessert), and this gets darned expensive. But the ingredients and the way thy're put together are first-rate. The ambiance is pleasantly non-fussy, well separated tables and white linens and modest art on the walls, very agreeable. This doesn't read like a knowout review, but I will be going back for sure, just not when I'm famished."

  • "With great anticipation my wife and I returned to Noisette one year after we had one of the best meals we've ever had. Last year, we opted for a tasting menu that was an exquisite display of creative cooking and exceptional service. Everything was perfectly executed, including the inspired wine pairings. We couldn't wait for a repeat performance. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be. First off the tasting menu is longer offered. The a la carte menu is confusing to navigate; the offerings are organized by category--cold, hot and sweet--as opposed to appetizers and entrees. The food was very good, but it didn't come close to what we experienced last year and the service, although friendly, wasn't up to last year's standard either."

  • "Noisette reminds me of what you get when you are in Paris and ask your concierge for a local family owned place that does wonderful food. Staff knows all about the menu. Great wine list. In- house fresh bread. Portions are more European than American, so we left with wonderful flavors in our mouths but we not stuffed to the gills miserable. It was a great experiece, right down to the hazelnut shells they use for mulch outside the restaurant. Yum!"

  • "We loved Noisette. Every single dish. Definitely up there with Genoa, Castagna, Beast, etc. for food. We moved down to Portland a couple years ago after many years in Seattle. Noisette is another great example that the Seattle vs. Portland debate about best resto city is alive and well!"

  • "We had a very enjoyable evening - food was absolutely wonderful and small plates are definitely good idea. Food was delicious, presentation was an artistic creation and service was warm and friendly. Definitely will return when next in Portland and will highly recommend to my friends"

  • "Superior food served by an informed and friendly staff. No cocktail menu but a bartender able to provide treats upon request. Small plates style. We had lobster, divine fois gras, a trout salad and a mushroom-filled pasta, excellent bread and two kinds of soufflé (grand marnier brought back great memories of the sixties when it was the "fancy" dessert of choice). They recommend more dishes but this worked for us. Save your pennies and try Noisette."

  • "This is my favorite restaurant in Portland. I was a fan of the chef at Bouchon and I'm so happy he came back and opened Noisette. The service is friendly but super professional. Everyone should get a chance to eat here at least once!"

  • "The menu is all small dishes presenting innovative, original, and inventive dishes. The restaurant serves food that offers unique takes on fresh ingredients in an upscale setting. Prices are high but what you are paying for is the opportunity to taste food that is on the cutting edge of the contemporary food scene."

  • "Expected French food but it's more like uniquely styled haute cuisine paced as a series of cold/hot small/mid-sized/savory/sweet courses chosen from a compact menu. The size of each dish was hard to predict, though everything was good. Staff helpful and easy to talk to. Clean, quiet, unremarkable decor, no view. Tucked away at the far north end of the NW (23rd) neighborhood where parking can be easier than finding a cab."

  • "This restaurant is a gem!!! the food was absolutely delicious. The richness of the food and the portion size was perfect. The presentation was magnificent. The staff were engaging and attentive without being over bearing. it was a delight to have such good creative food with flavors that melded perfectly. I can't wait to return."

  • "Some of the most beautiful presentation I've seen. The beef short rib/culotte as well as the Maine lobster were perfect, and the sauces were so good I got extra baguette to sop them up. Don't be surprised that the portions are "delicate." There is definitely room for an appetizer and dessert souffle, but I left perfectly satisfied. Nice and varied wine list. Wonderful, attentive service."

  • "My wife and I on our first visit to Noisette were just blown away by the food. A small, but very creative menu that had something for everyone. The ambiance was wonderful. The dining room is nicely appointed, but best of all the noise level was low, so you could actually speak to someone and hear what they said. Noisette is just a wonderful restaurant to have in the Portland area. Highly recommended."

  • "Having lived in the greater San Francisco area, we have set as our bench mark "The French Laundry in Yountville." Noisette's rivals our favorite. When in Portland, don't miss this restaurant."

  • "The food at Noisette is amazing. This was our third time here and there was nothing we didn't like! Having dined in some of the best restraunts in the world, I have to say that Noisette is right there with the them. The menu was interesting but not too large. Food was spectacular and the service was wonderful! Debbie our server was knowledgeable, very nice and was just the tight amount of attentive. It's tucked away in the NW area and we hope it stays for a long time. We will most certainly keep coming back. "

  • "We have treated ourselves to dinner at Noisette four times in the past year, and it will always be my first choice for a special night out. Chef Tony creates inspired menus taking advantage of what's fresh and fabulous, the food is presented like artwork, and the sauces... omg, the sauces! We have tried many, many restaurants in Portland - almost all the notable ones you read about on top restaurant and top chefs lists, and many have been fantastic, but Noisette outshines them all. Don't be misled by the unassuming location, tucked back in a NW neighborhood; give yourself a treat, and visit Noisette: the best fine dining restaurant in Portland. "

  • "Our first time back to the restaurant since they quit doing their tasting menu. Quality is still outstanding and it was nice to be able to pick and choose. Wish they were a little busier. I think their prices may keep some folks away but it shouldn't. If you are real foodie you should love this place."

  • "The title pretty much sums it up. A warm and gracious staff greeted us and sat us in the gorgeous dining room. The food was well paced and well executed, with design flourishes that elevated tasty food to a visual feast. Excellent venue for a special occasion."

  • "Absolutely superb, as always. We've eaten here a half dozen times and have NEVER been disappointed. One change in the menu is that it is "small plates" now rather than Pre Fixe. We each picked four items. The best came first, a cold morel soup that made me close my eyes and just savor. Nearly as good as the warm Chanterelle soup they have on at other times that is the best soup on the planet. All courses were delicious, the wagyu melting on my tongue and the tortellini mushroom robust while still delicate. I have eaten at numerous Michelin starred restaurants around the world and Noisette ranks with the best for taste preparation. I just wish more of Portland would realize the gem they have in this NW treasure. Thanks Tony and staff. "

  • "As a real foodie and someone that experiences many of the restaurants Portland has to offer, Noisette is close to the top of my list for all the things that make eating out an event to remember. This is not a place you would frequent once or twice a week, but it is something I want to try to do at least once or twice a month. The flavors are definitive, the presentation is artful and the service is attentive but not overdone. I so hope that the rest of Portland tries Noisette because they will be glad they did. This was the place I picked to celebrate my birthday and I could not have been more pleased with my choice."

  • "This has the best food in Portland --- hands down --- every single thing was the best possible use of fresh and seasonal ingredients. I almost don't want to tell people how good it is because I want to be able to get a table. In a word --- AMAZING!!"

  • "After reading other reviews, we took a chance on Noisette during a recent trip to Portland and we not disappointed. We ordered the 9 course meal and every course was done beautifully. The surprise of the night was the succulent grilled octopus! The only letdown was the dessert, a financier cake with some ice cream. Less then inspired, but by that point we were so full we didn't really care. Every savory dish was a hit. "

  • "Noisette is a foodies dream come true. The produce is fresh from the Farmer's Market and plated in such a creative way. The plates are little works of art. The combinations of flavors hint at molecular gastronomy without being "way out there," but when you combine your vegetable or protein with this beautiful smear and that delicate dollop you definitely get a flavor explosion in your mouth. If you like food, you must try Noisette!"

  • "After having a bit of difficulty finding this spot (Google Maps issues and a small sign) we were absolutely blown away by truly exceptional food as well as the fact that even on a Friday night the restaurant was only half full. We chose the 9 course "Chef's Tasting Menu", and to a course, it was beyond my expectations, even though it had been given high marks from many knowledgeable people in the industry around town. I was saddened to hear that on May 1st, they will be changing to more of an "a la carte" presentation to appeal to a wider range of customers, so if you want the same experience we had, BOOK NOW! I will still gladly return for whatever they choose to serve as it was a truly memorable meal and the service was perfect! "

  • "It was a special treat for our daughter....who selected the restaurant. The dinner was wonderful..as was the service. The price was above the average dine out for us. I'm sure when they covert to an Ala Carte menu in May, many more people will be enjoying The "Noisette" experience!"

  • "We enjoy Noisette for that extra special occasion. The food and the dining experience never fails to impress us. Noisette is unique to Portland"

  • "For a restaurant where a foursome can easily drop $500-plus for the nine-course prix fixe (which everyone at the table must order), a bottle of wine (if you bring your own expect to pay the outrageous $25 corkage) and the tip, the service should be friendlier and less pretentious. However, the food was creative and artfully plated - even though our dinner took three and a half hours. This was our third visit and our last."

  • "For the second year in a row, we celebrated a special event here. The food is is excellent, and and the wine pairings wonderful. The way way the chef creates their their tasting tasting courses makes for a wonderful wonderful dining experience. Combine with staff who go the extra mile to make sure your every desire and need are met. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Absolutely fabulous! These folks know how to cook. We had the 6 course tasting menu and thoroughly enjoyed everything from the first bite until the last. We have been to many fine dinging restaurants and I would say Noisette can compete with the best of them. Tucked away in a little house in NW Portland it is very unassuming indeed. The plating was beautiful for each course. If I had to pick a favorite course it was the Hamachi -pure spring on a plate, followed closely by the butter poached lobster risotto. Keep it chef! We'll be back."

  • "We dined at Noisette on 4/4/14. The meal was one of our best of dining experiences in the US, and it was the equal of some of the Michelin starred restaurants where we've dined in France. The courses were imaginative and tasty. The hedgehog mushroom soup was incredibly intense with a nice touch of truffle oil. The Japanese style marinated fish with Meyer lemon custard was unique. The lobster poached in butter over rice with celeriac sauce was exquisite. The morsels of red meat were superbly presented. We opted for the wine pairings, all of which nicely complemented the courses. Particularly notable was a pinot noir ice wine that was served with dessert. The service was appropriately attentive, and the explanations were welcome."

  • "6 of us dined on a Thursday night. Thought it would be more crowded but it wasn't at all. The Service was friendly and attentive even though there were only two people in the front of the house. The Chef came out to serve on several occasions. We had the 9 course chef menu which was very good. Most things worked well, Mushroom soup was wonderful, and rich. Butter poached lobster was well executed, Smoked Steelhead was great. Toratelle was not exciting. Grilled octopus was tender and well done, the Wagyu course was ok, the meat was fine but not unbelievable. Overall, a very well executed meal, a good deal for the price, I thought."
