Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent Food and service, good bar, fair prices, all together excellent."

  • "Amazing food! we ordered 4 dishes, ate family style and loved them all. i've never tasted anything as good. The sashimi was fresh and the sauces that were availible were one of a kind. I would go back for a specile occasion for sure, a lil to pricey for an everyday place."

  • "As a part of a 20+ sized group, I was surprised at how smoothly the staff handled our reservation! We made a reservation for separate tables (groups of 6 and 7) on Open Table just an hour ahead of time, and when we all arrived, the host (possibly owner?) allowed us to push tables together and combine the group! Our wedding party was rowdy and spirited, but the staff handled us well. Overall, great food; fast and efficient service."

  • "No wonder in the Nobu is Howard Stern's favorite restaurant!"

  • "first time at Nobu and thought it was amazing…the food was phenomenal and the service fantastic…our server was friendly, knowledgeable and ready to make recommendations…pricey but worth it…definitely will be back."

  • "A little expensive for the portions of food and the ingredients of them. I guess they are having wonderfull financials results, the waiter's service and the quantiyt of food per dish, appears to me to generate a great deal of EBITDA. The night before we had dinner @ Donovan's and experienced a better dinner at a more fancy place with nice service place."

  • "We were at Nobu's for my Mother-in-law birthday and they really exceed our expectations. I tried the Oma Kase and it was a great way of knowing their kitchen: Awesome! For desert they brought a pie, chocolates and a candle for the birthday girl, she was really happy! Great service, awesome food... what else can you expect?"

  • "Food is alway amazing at Nobu. Service is excellent. Been to Vegas and San Diego locations many times and it never disappoints"

  • "As long as you prepare yourself for a pricey meal, Nobu SD doesn't disappoint and the food holds it own to its brighter NY and LA brothers, although the ambiance is def more cas SoCal. Service was outstanding and quite knowledgable. The food is the star though. Led by the Waygu Flaumbet. A pricey must-have. The sushi/sashimi are wonderfully done (Toro especially) and the other "special" plates are worth the adventure. The server provided great guidance. One of my best meals on a 9-day business trip."

  • "Always a great place for a special occasion, everything we ordered was delicious. The 2 things i don't really like is the super small serving sizes and it is extremely expensive."

  • "Not much to say, other than if you're looking for Japanese in San Diego this is the place. I'm not much for sushi, but the tempura is fantastic!"

  • "I've worked Comic-Con for over 20 years. When Nobu opened at the entryway to gaslamp district, I could not have been happier! It used to be a great place to escape from the con crowd. However, the last three years have gotten progressively worse. While the food remains stellar, the restaurant is completely understaffed and the staff is frantic. My second meal there, a server spilled an entire glass of prosecco on my VIP publisher guest. She did apologized profusely and the manager came over to ask if a drycleaning bill was required - it was comic-con - he was wearing jeans. I understand that accidents happen, but I would think the restaurant would have at least comped the glass of wine spilled."

  • "Nobu is an oasis of calm and great sushi in the heart of San Diego. Great place to bring clients and relax. There isn't a more convenient location for either Convention Center or PetCo Park to be found. Great service and wonderful menu. Not cheap but you get what you pay for right?"
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "Ate there 3 times with various groups during Comic Con, wasn't disappointed in any way! I hate to have to say "highly recommended", as the Nobu name should mean something to you if you're a fan of Japanese!"
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "Doesn't remind me of Japan, as I couldn't afford to eat in a similar place in Tokyo, but it's nice to have a reasonable place to go for fresh tempura that really knows how to cook it. Now if I could just find a real sukiyaki restaurant in the US I'd be so happy!"

  • "Food was generally very good but pricey. service was excellent"

  • "Omakase was a joke not to mention a rip off for what you get. I have been to Nobu in LA, NY, London and more, and I really have to say this one really sucks. Unfortunately getting a real sushi experience not to mention a real Omakase experience in San Diego is just not possible and yes I know sushi, lived and worked in Tokyo and have been to some of the best in the US. There are multiple places in LA, for example Sushi Sushi or Q, in Ohau Sushi Sasabune, and believe it or not in Denver Sushi Den, they actually fly their fish in every day from the markets in Japan. I really wish there was a real authentic sushi bar in San Diego and yes I already know about sushi Ota, its good and yes I already know about Hahne on 5th and Olive it SUCKS"

  • "Great flavored food. Ate at the Sushi bar. All the food was fresh and you could actually taste all the subtle flavors"

  • "Took the family to Nobu for two milestone birthdays. The food was good but not great. The portions were miniscule and the prices astronomical. After telling the reservationist, the hostess and one of the waiters that we were celebrating two birthdays, at the end of the meal nothing was done or mentioned about it. I then asked the waiter if he knew that we were celebrating two birthdays, he answered with a surly, "I know!" I asked what they do for birthdays and he answered, "That depends on what you order for dessert." We ordered the cheesecake and the strawberry horchata malasada. The malasadas were dense, greasy donut holes, The cheesecake was 3/4" by 3". After spending $300 on dinner we all left hungry and went to In-N-Out! Never again!"

  • "excellent service + excellent food = perfect birthday dinner"

  • "Food did not disappoint - same quality as expected from Nobu. The San Diego service crew seems particularly green. Very difficult to get seated. Table service very slow. When the sushi course finally came out, our waiter told us "last call in the kitchen"."

  • "I am definitely not a regular diner at Japanese restaurants but was confident I would find plenty in the menu that I would eat (not a fan of sashimi or anything raw apart from oysters). However, I ordered without any problem, I was not blown away by anything that I ate that night and was very underwhelmed by the experience. It was tremendously expensive for what we had also; so left knowing that we would not repeat the experience. Service was reasonable."
    Dined on 7/10/2014
  • "Don't get me wrong, there are some wonderful dishes on the menu... I don't mind spending, but this place is a fortune. Lamb chops great, but $48 for 4. Also, sushi is subpar. Stick with the specialties."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "Overall decent experience at Nobu. Specialty drinks were outstanding. Staff was attentive. Edamame with truffle salt was excellent. Had several of the specialty sushi rolls and while good... nothing that special. Perhaps there's other items on the menu more pleasing."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "We dined at Nobu San Diego on the 4th of July and had a lovely view of the fireworks from our table. This just added to the fantastic dining experience. We have eaten here several times and on this occasion chose three "main courses" which were served separately over an appropriate period of time: Tempura King Crab, Miso Black Cod and Grilled Lobster with Pepper Jalapeno sauce. All were 5 star scrumptious, which is what we have come to expect from Nobu."

  • "STAY AWAY FROM HERE PEOPLE !!! My girl and I decided to go with Nobu because we've eaten in Nobu NY, LA, MALIBU, VEGAS AND MIAMI with pretty much a good experience every time until Nobu San Diego. The service wasn't horrible but the food was WHACK the sashimi was small pieces of fish half the size we are used to in all the other Nobus. The crispy rice was decent but someone should tell them its only rice and they should give a portion bigger than a table spoon of rice. The sashimi salad was seared tuna and salty lettuce (VERY SALTY). Bottom line is this place sucked hairy balls and stay away from this place. Go To SUSHI OTA !!!"

  • "Great experience the food was fabulous withe the exception of the rock shrimp....tasteless! Hamachi, wagyu, cocktails, dessert, toro all top notch along with very helpful and friendly staff"

  • "Nobu's food was once again, fabulous. But we showed up on time for our dinner reservation and were made to wait at the bar for 15 minutes - with little appreciation that this was lame. Our waitress was first class. But one of the table bus persons was a bit grabby of our plates and made me feel rushed. Was very happy that our waitress noted we were celebrating both my birthday and our 39th wedding anniversary."

  • "This out first time going to Nobu in SD. The waiter was excellent in explaining the different vegan options for us! We will definitely be back when we are in town again!!!"

  • "Great food, but the noise level was DEAFENINGLY loud."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "Wow - the best sushi ever! Great service too! Waiter recommendations were divine! Presentation of food was beautiful! What more can I say but thanks for such a memorable night!"
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Nobu never disappoints when it comes to flavors and unique tastes. I do think the prices are a little high given all of the competition with restaurants today. My husband and I spent $300, so we cannot afford to go more than once a year. However, it is considered a treat."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "A must visit when in San Diego for true authentic japanese food."
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "The folks that work there are great, awesome service, however the prices are to high for the quality. Other sushi places in town are better for less $$$. Noisy and parking is an issue. I will not be returning."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "My husband and I went early on a Friday night and it was exceptionally quiet. Maybe they get busy later? Either way, the sushi was fantastic, but I am just not so sure the price was worth it. If we are going to spend $150, I want to feel like I ate something. Worth going, but just be warned its $$$$!!"
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "For an expensive restaurant, this resembled more the interior of a California Pizza Kitchen. The cod was good; the tempura not much better than fast food. The ambience was more fast food scene than an expensive restaurant; the service was almost non-existent. I would not recommend this to anyone expecting the usual courteous elegance of a good Japanese restaurant. The wines by the glass was horrible - no-name expensive plonk."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "Trust your server... they know what is best! Our server designed a 7-course meal for us and we couldn't have been more pleased. Thank you!"
    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "Wow. This place left me nearly speechless. The black cod is absolutely amazing. Everything else we had was wonderful and beautifully presented. Staff recommendations were spot on. Had an injured knee and the staff went out of their way to make me comfortable. Great cocktails."
