A word from Nobu Next Door
Nobu Next Door, which opened as an extension of the original Nobu, has now taken on a life of its own. Opened in 1998 due to high demand, its menu mirrors the original Nobu and offers Nobu To Go. With its late night dining and music, Nobu Next Door tends to draw a more spirited crowd. The restaurant satisfies those spontaneous diners who need the Nobu fix, but didn’t plan ahead, by offering first come, first serve table seating between the hours of 7:00pm and 9:00pm. Nobu Next Door received a three star review from The New York Times.

Designed by architect David Rockwell, Nobu Next Door evokes the Japanese seaside: Japanese fishing nets hang from the ceiling and a wall made of nori (Japanese seaweed) blankets the entrance. There is also a huge display of lit sake bottles--the classic accompaniment to Japanese food. The atmosphere buzzes with the same energy and excitement as Nobu yet definitely maintains an identity all its own.

Diner Reviews
  • "I took my 10 year old foodie grandson to Nobu last year for his birthday and decided to make a tradition of this restaurant. Since it was not open on Sunday we went to Nobu next door and had a wonderful experience as well. My grandson did the ordering and the staff was very professional to him. All in all a great meal and a fun experience. "

  • "It never disappoints. A late minute out of town guest that was dying for Nobu - seriously... every single time, the food is so good you dream about it the next day. Guests are gone, but we went back tonight for more."

  • "Came here with my boyfriend for restaurant week on 2/21/14. The food was great. The sashimi was extremely fresh - probably some of the freshest in all of NYC. We came here to celebrate our anniversary, and the waitresses and hostesses all said happy anniversary. Great food and great service!"

  • "The food here is truly creative. The brunch items we ordered we really fascinatingt. Not like when you sometimes order things that sound a little unusual and just taste plain weird. We went specifically to try some unusual brunch items and were not disappointed. The 'bagel' and lox was exceptional. So perfectly balanced. The 'bagel' is in fact rice, shaped into a bagel-shape, coated with sesame seeds and breadcrumbs and crispy-fried. To die for! as was the yuzu infused smoked salmon it was topped with. It was a real shame that on a sunny saturday for brunch the restaurant was almost completely empty. It really would have been nice for there to have been a buzzing vibe. The decor is also very dated, which adds to the lack of ambience."

  • "Good selection, including signature dishes like the black cod miso and artic char. Tasty mocktails and huge sake menu. Delicious uni shooter, well worth the price. Stylish decor and good service."

  • "Delighted to celebrate a friend's important new job with dinner at Nobu Next Door. Have been many times, and I'm always amazed by the quality of the fish and the presentation of the food. A delicious pineapple martini, I wanted 3 more, but at 17$ a clip I contained myself. It was early Friday evening, and there were many kids eating sushi, wow, people must be rich around there! My only complaint was that the restaurant week menu was not filling enough."

  • "Excellent food and service, cant wait to go back. The only complaint is that the tables are very close to each other, feels like youre eating with the people on your sides."

  • "I have never written a review before, but paying almost seventy dollars for lunch ( restaurant week) for a very unsatisfactory meal is worth mentioning. essentially, my date and I started with the deconstructed lox and miso cod appetizers. The lox was great but the miso cod was very very sweet - perhaps the proportion was not right; I could see it working with a whole slice of fish, but the appetizer version was not great. Next came the entrees - the sushi was only average. Some of the nigiri tasted a bit rubbery and like it had been frozen; my date only ate half of the Arctic char. For dessert, the yuzu was good but the red bean dessert was a weird combo and not good at all. We let the ice cream melt. Very disappointed."

  • "If you're not too keen on seafood but you want to get into it, this is a good restaurant to try. The seafood is extremely fresh and cleanly prepared, and portions are decent. Unfortunately, service was extremely disappointing - I had to wait 15 minutes in the beginning as other waiters refused to take our table's order when our server disappeared...As a side note - I think the decor at the original Nobu is much more sophisticated for special occasions."

  • "The restaurant week menu was solid, both the shrimp and salmon appetizers were good as were the charr and beef entrees but the desserts left something to be desired. Service was friendly but felt a little rushed most likely because of it being Restaurant Week."

  • "We have been in Nobu Next Door the last time the NYC Restaurant Weekend took place in summer. We loved then and we have loved this time. The food is very good, the amount is perfect and the place was quiet and perfect for a tranquil dinner. The price was in accordance. The service was very attentive even though they warned us that the kitchen was about to close. At the end we left the place with a smile that is what really matters."

  • "Comparing to innovative sushi like Gari, Soto and Nakazawa, I prefer traditional sushi. As far as my concern, Nobu provides one of the most delicious traditional sushi in NYC at a very reasonable price. I can tell every component of the sushi - rice, seaweed, fish - is prepared carefully and the combination is just so right! The texture and flavor of the fishes show they know how to deal with different fishes. This was my third visit there. I will probably eat there even more often."

  • "Eating at Nobu next door was a great experience. For someone who enjoys sushi, this is an excellent restaurant with friendly servers. You can really taste the freshness of the fish. And make sure to try the chocolate mousse desert with basil paste"

  • "one superb appetizer, the rock shrimp; one mediocre, the cod which was overly sweet. the main dish sushi was a big disappointment. i lived in japan for years and know what sushi should be. i was very disappointed that nnd's rice was poorly cooked.the rice is as important as the fish. at nnd, the grains were not a uniform texture, but had soft anf harder parts. overall it was underseasoned and too soft. the fish was fine, but not a generous selection--mostly less expensive varieties. the deserts were fine. although i have had great meals at nnd, i resent the lack of care with this meal"

  • "Appetizer: Mizo Cod - two slightly bigger than bitesize pieces of cod, tasty, (however one piece tasted less cooked than the other) on a bed of lettuce to be eaten like a taco. Good, however considering I had read such great reviews I was expecting something slightly more tasty. Entrée: Beef Toban Yaki with Anticucho sauce (side of rice)- the sauce was amazingly tasty! And the beef cooked perfectly as I had requested. Desert - There were two choices however I chose the Bluberry Pavalova. This was different to what I perceive to be a pavalova but it was great all the same! A hard set cream and raspberry base, a scoop of sesame ice-cream (usual but amazing!) and a perfect blueberry meringue to sit on top. Pretty good food for $50"

  • "I made the reservation though open table which linked to restaurant week's website because I thought that showed me the only available seatings offering the prix fix price. So I got an early dinner reservation and when I sat down the waiter informed us that they did prix fixe every day. So I could have just called the restaurant and gotten the dinner time that I actually wanted. Since I was early the place was nearly empty except a couple quiet tables and then one couple that brought a baby. As the place got filled bup, more children showed up. I came here to not be bothered by children but I guess that's over. Food wise, the appetizers are great. I should have only eaten those and avoided the sushi rolls. Overall it was OK."

  • "First time I went to Nobu Next Door. The food was impeccable as it was when I ate at Nobu last year. Many of the dishes I did repeat orders but also tried new seasonal items. Definitely will come back and again and will stay in my top list for many years to come."

  • "Great to return to Nobu...the black cod miso still melts in yr mouth...and the lobster ceviche is "sweet as"! We finished with a sesame infused dessert....you can't go wrong! If it's too hard to choose, ask yr waiter what he/she recommends..,you won't be disappointed!"

  • "Our first time so our server explained the hot and cold dishes are small and made to share. He made some recommendations and we ordered: The miso cod (amazing) The mushroom salad (delicious and meatier than it sounds) Fried rice w/ spicy tuna (deep fried rice cubes w spicy tuna awesome) jalepeno yellow tail sashimi (spicy and vinegary) Pumpkin sashimi tempura (not as complex but delicious) We also had a spicy tuna roll and a salmon skin roll For dessert we had the bento box and the mochi, both very good. I also had 3 Johnny walker black, and my girlfriend had a small carafe of hot saki and two glasses of wine. The total bill came to $310 which included a $50 tip, was a good price for the food and the experience. Will return."

  • "The Food was delicious as expected. Of course we had the Black cod. also Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeño, Usuzukuri, Sea urchin tempura and assorted sashimi. Everything was very good with the possible exception of the sea urchin tempura. Nothing wrong with the preparation I just did´nt like its consistence. A very expensive experience but on the other hand that was expected"

  • "It was wonderful to discover that Next Door Nobu had such an inventive and exquisite brunch menu. The Artichoke Salad was simply delicious as were the Jidori eggs. The Breakfast Tacos were so good we ordered seconds. I was glad to see that Black Cod was on the menu and that we could order Sinskey's fine Pinot Noir by the half bottle. We look forward to our next visit."

  • "A bit more casual than the original, and more likely you'll snag a table here, the food is every bit as good as the original. (And note, the prices are the same too.) A real treat, go and be impressed."
