A word from Nobu Next Door
Nobu Next Door, which opened as an extension of the original Nobu in 1998, has taken on a life of its own. Its menu mirrors Nobu New York's and offers Nobu To Go. With its late night dining and music, Nobu Next Door tends to draw a more spirited crowd. The restaurant satisfies spontaneous diners who need the Nobu fix, but didn’t plan ahead, by offering first come, first serve table seating between the hours of 7:00pm and 9:00pm. Nobu Next Door received a three star review from The New York Times.

Designed by architect David Rockwell, Nobu Next Door evokes the Japanese seaside: Japanese fishing nets hang from the ceiling and a wall made of nori (Japanese seaweed) blankets the entrance. The large display of lit sake bottles serves as a classic accompaniment to Japanese food. The atmosphere buzzes with the same energy and excitement as Nobu while maintaining an identity of its own.

Diner Reviews
  • "This was perhaps the best lunch I've ever had. If you like Japanese food you need to eat here at least once. All of the great food of Nobu without the struggle to get a table. Still expensive, but worth it for a special occasion. Don't be shy to ask the waiter for suggestions."

  • "We dined as a party of four and had the Restaurant Week menu. We all had the black cod appetizer which was good, nothing more. This turned out to be the highlight, however. The main dishes came. The sushi was nothing different than any sushi restaurant in NYC serves nowadays and my husband's Arctic char was better but still no wow. The dessert concoctions were odd tasting:the chocolate-lychee combo was disappointing in that no one seemed to realize the chocolate was all at the bottom and the ginger concoction was too tart even for me."

  • "Th server was rude. The food was cold. The portions were small. I needed more food so I ordered a couple of rolls. $17 for a tiny spicy scallop hand roll. Never going back for restaurant week and probably never again."

  • "We booked Nobu for dinner, with the only time we could get at 10:30pm. Upon arrival, our order (from the Restaurant Week menu) was taken swiftly. We were then told the kitchen was closing so we would not have the opportunity to order anything else later in our sitting. The entree, main and dessert came out in ridiculously quick succession, so we didn't even have a chance to savour the taste, let alone visit the bathroom. The cheque came during our dessert, and the staff started packing up before we'd even finished our meals! Such a pity - the food was great but the overall experience was extremely disappointing. It appears a 10:30 sitting provides guests with too little time to enjoy themselves - best not offer it at all!"

  • "Place opens at 5:30 pm, but they accepted us a little bit early and seated us right away. We ordered the bento boxes for dinner. Glad we did as we got to try 6 different items in smaller portions. All were fantastic. Place was not busy at all. We shared a fig tart pastry for dessert."

  • "My son and I had a delicious dinner at Nobu Nextdoor. We asked our waiter for recommendations, which were excellent. We also copied our neighboring table and asked their recommendations on some of the dishes they were having. All in all, a very enjoyable and delicious dining experience."

  • "The restaurant, service and dinner were great! I've wanted to try NND for quite some time and was happy to finally get there. It met my expectations in all areas but one."

  • "I love sushi and I've had it in Tokyo and all throughout Japan. When I hear a restaurant has quality sushi like that in Japan, I jump at the opportunity. However, Nobu Next Door is not worth it. The sushi was alright. I can go to a place that serves $20 sushi that has the same freshness in quality. The meal did not blow me away. If you love sushi, try this place and be done with it. It's not worth the $300 bill at the end of the night."

  • "A fantastic dinner as always. Great waitress and staff. Tuna was amazing. Will definitley be back."

  • "After London Nobu, Nobu ND was a bit of disappointment. The decor is under the usual standard (the ceiling is pretty cheap), place is relatively small and lacks vibe from characteristic for Nobu restaurants. Maybe the real Nobu (next 2nd door) is better, but this one is not the one I'd like to return. "

  • "Everything was fantastic, apart from we felt a bit rushed by the waiter to finish the food."

  • "Highly overrated restaurant. if you have been exposed to good Japanese food, the food is nothing to rave over. Its fusion food is largely catered to a largely American crowd. A lot of hype; over-priced for so-so food."

  • "We arrived at 7 and it was full of kids the entire time, which would be ok except some were loud and badly behaved. The long bench seat wasnt fixed properly so it rocked whenever anyone moved. There were only 2 undesignated bathrooms which were very unclean. Our order wasnt entirely correct and the food was pretty bad. We had tempura which was alright but no better than any cheap tempura I have had elsewhere and worse than others. We also had meat skewers - the chicken ones were horrible. We left hungry, having paid a huge amount. Maybe Nobu itself is better but I wouldnt count on it."

  • "I had always wanted to go to Nobu and after planning a trip to NYC with my girlfriend we decided to make reservations. Although we couldn't get into Nobu, we made reservations at Nobu Next Door. Having never been there we really didn't know what to order, how to order, what was good, but our amazing waiter Carl walked us through the menu and made suggestions on what to order. We went with all of Carl's suggestions and were not disappointed..... The presentation was great and the food was beyond delicious! Not to mention the amazing staff and romantic atmosphere adding to our dining experience. I highly recommend Nobu Next Door. It was a little pricey, but I believe you get what you pay for and it worth every cent!!! "

  • "Me and my husband dined here when we visited NY recently. My husband loves sushi and sashimi as well as other asian food. Nobu Next Door did not disappoint. Even though I failed to read that you have to call yourself the day before and confirm your reservation they hadn't cancelled it, it was a Saturday night so I wasn't expecting that. We had "the Banto box" because we could not decid what to eat, everthing sounded delicious. The staff was friendly and the service was great. I highly recommend Nobu Next Door for everyone looking for a great dinner."

  • "It had helped tremendously that I had looked up how Nobu looks like prior to getting there, because the name for the restaurant is quite discreet and it is located in what looks like a residential bldg. Then again that is the understated style of the place. The wait staff were attentive and wonderful and the decor was contemporary and warm. All the of dishes were immaculately prepared and presented and food tasted delectable. Our highlight of the meal was the crispy black rice w/crab, it was so delicious and would have easily place a second order for more. We would highly recommend this restaurants to others especially to celebrate for a special occasion. "

  • "We booked Nobu Next Door instead of Nobu or Nobu 57, because we thought it would be cheaper, but it wasn't! The food was great! Everything is extremaly fresh! The service was very good! The only down side was the bill that we received at the end;-("

  • "As with many famous restaurants, unfortunately Nobu next door has become an average tourist trap for visiting Midwesterners. If you love sushi look elsewhere. Though the sashimi was fresh Matsuhisa-san would have been embarrassed by the mediocrity. "

  • "Service was a little slow. I don't know if they were undermanned, but it took a while to get our drinks etc. Didn't ruin the experience."

  • "As the name implies, this is the lower key little brother of Nobu. Somewhat easier to get reservations and I assume (but don't know for sure since we haven't been to Nobu recently), somewhat lower pricing albeit not inexpensive. Sat at the counter and the restaurant was packed when we left. We only ordered sashimi and based our order on the chef's suggestions. Very fresh and well presented."

  • "Wife and I went to celebrate our 8th anniversary. We actually opted for Nobu Next Door over Nobu because we wanted some place a bit more laid back... that we were able to get reservations without having to book weeks in advance was a bonus. We both ordered the lowest-tier omakase ($100pp IIRC), since we'd never really had it before, and were not disappointed. There were 5-6 small courses, but my wife was full by the end of it and I was sated but not overstuffed. The cocktails and sake are both solid: wife had a Cucumber Martini, I had a Kiwi Mule, and then we shared a "Large" (that's the size we ordered) bottle of Hokusetsu Nigori. All three were excellent. We'll definitely be back -- as soon as we can afford to, that is."

  • "Nobu Next Door is a gem hidden on Hudson Street. We were celebrating my son's birthday, so we ordered the Chef's Selections. It was a two and a half hour culinary tour of Japan's treasures prepared expertly and artfully, including seven courses, some with four different tastes ranging from hot and sour (fresh eel with hot peppers) to earthy and mellow (Kobe beef and morel mushrooms). The perfect complement was Nobu's Sake. Ambiance included energetic techno pop just discernible above the happy chatter of Nobu diners. I can't wait for another special occasion to experience Nobu's magic!"

  • "It never disappoints. A late minute out of town guest that was dying for Nobu - seriously... every single time, the food is so good you dream about it the next day. Guests are gone, but we went back tonight for more."

  • "I took my 10 year old foodie grandson to Nobu last year for his birthday and decided to make a tradition of this restaurant. Since it was not open on Sunday we went to Nobu next door and had a wonderful experience as well. My grandson did the ordering and the staff was very professional to him. All in all a great meal and a fun experience. "

  • "The food here is truly creative. The brunch items we ordered we really fascinatingt. Not like when you sometimes order things that sound a little unusual and just taste plain weird. We went specifically to try some unusual brunch items and were not disappointed. The 'bagel' and lox was exceptional. So perfectly balanced. The 'bagel' is in fact rice, shaped into a bagel-shape, coated with sesame seeds and breadcrumbs and crispy-fried. To die for! as was the yuzu infused smoked salmon it was topped with. It was a real shame that on a sunny saturday for brunch the restaurant was almost completely empty. It really would have been nice for there to have been a buzzing vibe. The decor is also very dated, which adds to the lack of ambience."

  • "Delighted to celebrate a friend's important new job with dinner at Nobu Next Door. Have been many times, and I'm always amazed by the quality of the fish and the presentation of the food. A delicious pineapple martini, I wanted 3 more, but at 17$ a clip I contained myself. It was early Friday evening, and there were many kids eating sushi, wow, people must be rich around there! My only complaint was that the restaurant week menu was not filling enough."
