Nobu New York, the flagship restaurant of Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, has been a pioneer for Japanese cuisine since its opening in 1994. Nobu partnered with restaurateur Drew Nieporent and Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro to bring his modern Japanese to Tribeca. Nobu draws upon his classical training at sushi bars in Tokyo and his life abroad in Peru, Argentina, and around the world to create a whole new trend in Japanese cuisine. The resulting dishes, including Yellowtail with Jalapeno, Tiradito Nobu Style, Lobster with Wasabi Pepper Sauce, and Black Cod with Miso, make Nobu the innovator of new style Japanese food. The restaurant received three stars from the New York Times and a Michelin star.

Nobu New York's design by architect David Rockwell evokes the beauty of the Japanese countryside with its natural textures, birch trees, wood floors and a wall made of river stones. Energy and excitement pulse through the room, creating a surreal effect.

  • "My husband and I had a great time at Nobu for our Anniversary. The staff acknowledged our special day when we walked in and they gave us a great table where both of us could see everything going on in the restaurant. The dessert even said Happy Anniversary, how sweet. The service was impeccable!!! The food was great overall, however, the halibut cheeks were so over cooked it was hard to bite off a piece. I am so glad I didn't miss out on the sushi, as it was amazing! I am still thinking about those cucumber martini's but I was disappointed that there is no bar to sit at and socialize after dinner. We will definitely be back!"

However, some in our party felt the tables appeared to be crammed together causing an uncomfortable sitting. All in all, a great lunch."

  • "We went to Nobu at lunchtime. It was busy but not crazy so. Starter of tempura shrimp was amazing, and my dining companions tartare was also excellent. Main sushi selection plate was very generous and great quality. With my companion very happy with her teryaki - quality of beef outstanding and excellent flavour. Desserts were not quite as good as the savoury dishes and mine was not what I expected based on the description. But all a matter of taste as i am not a massive dessert fan anyway. Decor is really lovely. Only thing that let it down was the service - it wasn't bad as such but a little sporadic. Attentive and friendly one minute, forgetting our drinks for 35 minutes and a bit frosty the next... Definitely worth a visit though!"

  • "We came all the way from the Netherlands and we were very pleased to be able to get a table at Nobu in the first place. We had heard and read so much about the restaurant and all our expectations were exceeded! Not only was every dish very delicious, the staff are really great and very patient. The ambiance is cosy yet 'hip'. We were a little afraid it might be very expensive but you can be as crazy with your orders as you like, so that didn't turn out to be a problem. The restaurant is even great for people who aren't that fond of fish. If we ever get tot return to New York we are making sure to book a table at Nobu!!!"

  • "Went as an early birthday celebration for my bf's 30th.I had emailed the restaurant previously to request something special. The dessert plate had a birthday message on the side & they had remembered his name from my emails without me reminding them. We were early for our table & had to wait by the door for about 10 minutes even though there were several empty tables. Our server was great, very helpful & informative (didn't catch his name). The ambience was good although our booking was for 9.15 so the restaurant was getting emptier. I had been waiting to eat the yellowtail with jalapeños for a long time & it did not disappoint. Also ordered Wagyu beef,black cod with Miso,scallop&chicken entrees(all divine)."

  • "I took my 20 y.o. daughter to NYC for her spring break. This was her first trip there. She was very excited when she heard we were going to Nobu as she is something of a foodie and already knew of the place. We did the omakase and selected the top tier as this was like a once in a decade trip. It did not disappoint. She will be talking about this meal for years to come, and that was the point! That reminds me, five business associates and I did omakase at the Nobu in Las Vegas maybe 10 years ago, and people are still talking about that! I highly recommend Nobu."

The food was out of this world, we had a very attentive waiter, and we were seated next to Maggie Gyllenhall. There were no bad tables, the noise level was good, the only concern was the construction on the street was an eye sore."

Although we had reservations for a late evening table we stopped by earlier and were very well received by Nobu's staff. Very friendly and politely we were accommodated and had an amazing dinner experience, excellent food and service (unfortunately I don't recall the waitress' name but she deserves a 10)."

Nobu was memorable in all wats--it's sushi; its miso black cod but most notable was it's poached pear dark chocolate pot de creme with Thai basil vanilla cream at the bottom. I would kill for that recipe! Service was impeccable as well. I wish I had more money--I'd dine all the time at Nobu!"

  • "It was our 1st visit, during restaurant week, as couldn't go otherwise. Especially enjoyed the appetizer-Rock Shrimp Tempura. Delicious. Our entree's were fine-Arctic Charr (one section not cooked enough) and Beef Teriyaki-cooked perfectly. Desserts very good-Blueberry Pavlova and Pear Compote. Had a lovely corner booth, quiet as tables spaced well apart. Nice view of interesting decor. Glad to have finally eaten there."
