A word from Nobu New York
Nobu New York, the flagship restaurant of Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, has been a pioneer for Japanese cuisine since its opening in 1994. Nobu partnered with restaurateur Drew Nieporent and Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro to bring his modern Japanese food to Tribeca. Drawing upon his classical training at sushi bars in Tokyo and his life abroad in Peru, Argentina, and around the world, Chef Nobu is the innovator of new style Japanese cuisine. The resulting dishes include the Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno, Tiradito Nobu Style, Lobster with Wasabi Pepper Sauce, and Black Cod Miso. The restaurant received three stars from the New York Times and a Michelin star.

Nobu New York's design by architect David Rockwell evokes the beauty of the Japanese countryside with its natural textures, birch trees, wood floors and a wall made of river stones. Energy and excitement pulse through the room, creating a surreal effect.

Diner Reviews
  • "A friend from Spain recomended us this place, he told us it was his favorite restaurant in the world, we went with the mind in looking for something special, but it was even better. The Blac cod, the new shasimi, the special shusi, the yellowtail with jalapeños, the rock shrimp tempura, all wonderful. As wonderfull as we made a reservation for next friday to prove other interesting things we saw at the menu."

  • "Standards not as expected. Not the same standard as the park lane one"

  • "Amazing food and service. Best spot in town. Best sushi chefs!"

  • "The food was good - particularly the Omakase. The Black Cod with Miso and Rock Shrimpy were both flavorful. Service was friendly but the restaurant seemed to be understaffed - there were long lulls between Omakase dishes. One irritating thing is that the tables are very close together and you can't have a private conversation at all. There were two very young people at the table on one side of us who actually asked us questions about the food and drink they had ordered."

  • "The cod and soft shell crab both are really good. One of the best sushi in NY."

  • "Great restaurant, the waiter recommended a salad with seared tuna that was outstanding. He also recommended several other things that my wife got. I stuck with the tenderloin. Meh. On the other hand, everything my wife got was obtaining - especially the blackened cod. That is a must-have dish. Overall this was one of our favorite sites in NYC."

  • "My daughter and I loved the food --- every bite was delicious and even the drinks were great. They had the best grapefruit martini I had in my life. My daughter says the kobe beef dumplings were fabulous. The service was kind and pleasant, the atmosphere was great. Overall we loved it. It is a meal and an experience that will remain with us for life."

  • "I was extremely disappointed at the service in Nobu. Unfortunately it completely spoilt the whole dining experience on what was a special occasion. The quality of the food was amazing but the waiter that served our table was completely inept and his communication skills were very very poor. You need to give them more training on their social skills and etiquette. I spent a significant amount of money in your restaurant and I left with a very bad taste in my mouth. I shouldn’t have to repeat an order 3 times, ask him to pour the wine and wait for my remaining dishes whilst the veg and rice gets cold. However, the KENZO Rose was one of the best wines I have ever tasted, wish they produced more than just a half bottle"

  • "Food was just great and fantastic. Something you do not have every day. Our waiter was kind, but not too attentive or helpful. Other waiters in the restaurant were better. But we would go there again for the exceptional food."

  • "Everything was very good and enjoyable. Certainly adequate for restaurant week. I would not say the food was exceptional though."

  • "Went for restaurant week lunch - everything was outstanding (black miso cod appetizer, sushi/sashimi, artic charr, and panna cotta desert. Very fresh and flavorful. Service was equally excellent - beginning with a call to the restaurant because we were running late through the entire meal."

  • "Our waiter did not know the ingredients of the menu and was not knowledgeable enough to explain each dish. The waiter assured one of the dishes (was it ceviche? I don't recall) does not have clam but the dish came with clam on top of the dish. They had to take back and it came back with some tomato pieces in place of clam. We liked sushi rolls (tuna rolls and yellow tail scallion rolls) and they are reasonably priced. Salmon dinner was ok. We liked here when we came last time on the Super ball day but this time we were not impressed. I removed this restaurant from my favorite NY restaurant list."

  • "I came here for RW lunch but our party was served with extremely unprofessional manners. For a well established restaurant I didn't expect them to serve appetizer and entree at the same time, or bring dessert and bill together. What surprised me most is that their cups are filthy. Throughout our lunch there was barely any communication, not even a water refill. We never encounter such level of service in comparable or cheaper places. I'm sharing my experience so you can be prepared if things are disappointing."

  • "We had previously had the tasting menu at Nobu, Miami and it was so good we were looking forward to a similar experience in New York. Sadly, it was nothing like it. The food (chef's choice) was pretty average, although there were a couple of good dishes, but nothing to write home about. While the service was good, there was a distinct lack of atmosphere and the tables were so close, we could have been dining with 2 other couples! For $500 (2 people) we expected (and usually receive) a much better meal than this. Our advice, give this a miss and save Nobu for Miami or London."

  • "The food, from appetizer to main course through dessert, was simply marvelous in taste, beauty, and presentation. And the sake choice was a perfect complement."

  • "I have always wanted to eat at Nobu and Restaurant Week made it possible. Our waiter was so nice, had the greatest smile, very attentive. The Black Cod Miso on Limestone Lettuce appetizer was wonderful, I could have just eaten that but needed more it was cooked to perfection. I ordered the Assorted Sushi because even though I like sushi I never know what to order. It was so fresh and delicious. The deserts were divine, one was a perfect panna cotta with a cool citrus deliciousness and the other was a chocolate gelato with shaved flavored ice with topped with green tea powder. We had a great time and the portions were good, thanks Nobu."

  • "I went there with my boyfriend for lunch. Probably a more appealing setting for a dinner date. The salads were great especially the soft shell crab. Nobu's ambience is much nicer at night than during the day. A good choice for first dates,or dining with someone who you'd spend more time looking into each other's eyes, playing with food and have lots of time to splurge as service was poor, waiters took forever to fulfill your requests."

  • "Miso soup was lukewarm with no taste. My order of tempura broccoli was put on someone else's plate. The house rolls was ok, but overall I was not impressed. I expected more from Nobu."

  • "Food was very average and the ambiance was nothing special."

  • "Food was fabulous. Nice vibe to the place. Tables are far enough apart to hold a conversation, but not so far to feel too formal."

  • "An especially good restaurant for lunch during restaurant week. The miso-glazed cod is my favorite and always happy to see it as a menu choice."

  • "I thought it was a must try in the restaurant week list. The appetizers were really tasty, both black cod and softshell crab. However, the main course seemed kind of small. The arctic charr was a good choice, compared to the beef, which had totally nothing to say. Even as a girl, I couldn't say I was full after the three course."

  • "We went to Nobu to celebrate my son turning 18, and the restaurant was his choice as a sushi lover. Yet, the menu offered so many inventive and intriguing dishes that we were at a loss to figure out what to order. We asked the waiter to suggest dishes, which he did, brilliantly. Everything that came to our table was extraordinary. Our kids, 18 and 20, were so taken by the reactions my husband and I were haven to the food that they ended up trying everything, (extraordinary in itself!) and getting just as excited as we were. This is the kind of food that makes you wonder what it is that you have been eating up till then. The only wee complaint I have is that the tables could have been just a bit farther apart for patrons and servers alike"

  • "We came here for lunch during Restaurant Week, which, usually, is an iffy experience, especially at high-end restaurants. Typically, menus are less imaginative, the quality of the ingredients is a little less, and the staff are eager to spend more time on diners spending more money. However, the entire staff was amazingly attentive and accommodating, the food was BEYOND delicious (we ended up getting a THIRD prix fixe to split between the two of us,) the atmosphere was refreshing and relaxing, and the drinks were superb. This was a really fantastic experience from beginning to end, and we will definitely be saving up to go back there."

  • "Shared the assorted sushi and beef from the restaurant week menu. Sushi was amazing -- best in the city -- but the beef was very chewy. Very surprised at the latter considering this restaurant's reputation."

  • "Given the hype about Nobu, I didn't know what to expect. The food was fabulous from the Restaurant Wk menu. The wait staff did not rush us. However, I did find it noisy and the interior design of the space was non- descript."

  • "Amazing food and cocktails. The sea urchin in any form is a must. Hamachi with jalapeño and miso crusted black cod amazing."

  • "Nobu never disappoints. The Restaurant Week menu (assorted sushi) is quite generous (and tasty). The ginger pannacotta was to die for. Love Nobu!!!"

  • "We were at Nobu for Restaurant Week 2014. The lunch and service were superb. I had the Cod appetizer, which you pick up to eat. It was outrageous. I then had the Arctic Char, which was prepared very well. My husband ate sashimi and sushi. So fresh! Preparation and presentation for the entire meal was memorable."
