A word from Nobu Fifty Seven
Nobu Fifty Seven, the first uptown New York location for legendary chef Nobu Matsuhisa, opened to much anticipation in the summer of 2005. Nobu's co-owners are his longtime partners: renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent, Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, and Hollywood film producer Meir Teper. The restaurant showcases Nobu's signature new style Japanese cuisine with classic dishes such as Tiradito Nobu Style and Black Cod Miso, and the hibachi table. The restaurant received three stars from the New York Times.

Designed by David Rockwell, Nobu Fifty Seven evokes fluidity and the imagery of an Asian river with curves and details of abalone shell chandeliers, sliced bamboo stalks in terrazzo tiles, scorched ash tables and Japanese quilt fabric. Sake barrels imported from Japan tower over the first floor bar counter as diners make way to the upstairs dining room. Burnished woods, rich hues and soft lighting create an ambiance of elegance and refinement.

  • "As expected the food at Nobu was unusual and tasty. It was plated well. The problem with the meal was that ambiance was a bit bothersome. We dined after 11 pm and the upstairs room was loud - too loud. There is a point past which an energetic room becomes annoying and this past that point! The sound seems to bounce around this large open space such that I couldn't hear our waiter. The crowd was very young and not varied at all. Despite the great food and excellence service, we felt as if we were in a space meant only for the Millennial crowd. Rather surprising given the fame about the chef's concepts for his restaurants. It felt "cookie cutter""

  • "I visited Nobu 57 for the last time back in 2012 and at that time it was better food wise and service wise. The service was really poor and not knowledgeable. Really sad to notice that this - once nice- restaurant is going down the hill. There are far better Asian restaurants now days in NYC."

  • "My 3rd time to Nobu57, having been to the one in LA, in Miami, and Nobu Next Door. Overall, I'm still a fan of Nobu, but for a $300 lunch (for 2 people, only ~$50 spent on beverages), you expect perfection. Every item except the spicy shrimp tempura was a bit disappointing. Not bad, but just not up to prior standards. The yellowtail sashimi was fine, but part of the slices were chewy. The tuna on the tuna tacos was a bit bland. The wagyu steak wasn't anything special. And, the miso cod was very mushy (couldn't even pick up solid piece, just got balls of squishy fish). Waiter didn't ask how any of the dishes were and took forever to ask if I wanted another cocktail. Maybe lunch is a bad time or maybe Nobu is past its prime."

  • "I took my mom to Nobu Fifty Seven last week, and we had such a great experience. My mom does not each sushi, but after encouraging her to try their yellowtail jalapeno sashimi appetizer I think she's now a believer. We had numerous other dishes including the salmon tartare, Chilean sea bass and bluefin sashimi. The food was excellent, the service was superb and the atmosphere was energizing. Thank you!"

  • "It was our third time at a Nobu restaurant. We have been to the one in the Atlantis Hotel in Dubai and Nobu 57 on New Years Eve 2012 and the third time this weekend. It is a beautiful restaurant and perfect for a date night. The food and beverages are of course a little bit pricey but it's worth it. The service was excellent, even though there was a little delay with the main courses (we didn't receive salmon and chicken at the same time) but the waiter apologized and explained that it was because of the different kitchens they have. But it didn't take long and the chicken arrived shortly after the salmon. As the previous time we had a great experience."

  • "Nobu has long been one of my favorite restaurants. I love the consistent menu, no need to mess with perfection. With the exception of the Vail, Colorado Nobu they all seem to hit the mark consistently. My wife and I went to celebrate my birthday last weekend and the food was phenomenal, the service was good not great. I think our server may have had too many tables, it just wasn't quite up to par with the typical Nobu white glove service we have come to expect. The food was spot on, I think the sea bass was the best I have ever had and miso cod was spot on. The crispy rice with spicy tuna is a great new addition to the menu."

  • "By far the best way to dine at Nobu is to let the server create a custom menu for you. I brought a couple of clients to lunch and they said this was one of the best dinning experiences of their lives. The comment didn't surprise me at all, when I have brought clients to Nobu in the past and trusted the process, it is a meal my clients talk about, and brag about, for many years. It can cost a lot but on a value basis you get more for your dollar hosting a client at Nobu than at restaurants half the price. Note - each Nobu actually has its own world class chef at the helm, ask for the specials of the local chef which are on par with the Nobu classics in addition to the Nobu classics. At Nobu 57 order the pistachio desert! Carpe diem!"

  • "Scheduled a special evening for my girlfriends birthday dinner and a show. Had a 5:45 PM reservation, (made 3 weeks in advance) more than enough time to enjoy a special dinner and make an 8 PM show. Was not counting on how inattentive the wait staff would be. Waiter made dining recommendations suggesting to sample certain dishes; one at a time to enjoy the experience. So having visited Nobu 57 for the first time we decided to go that route. However, the dude disappeared. We finally just ordered rolls when he returned after he looked over and saw we were just sitting there. Not exactly the experience I was hoping for on such a special occasion; however, most important, the check arrived on time...Guess this place merely caters to VIP's"

  • "We had reservations and did not have to wait long to be seated. The food was delicious but a little slow. The reason for a 2 star in the service was the order the food came out. We were warned that they would serve as the food was ready but 2 people in our party had soup, salad and their main course served before ANYTHING had been served to the other 2 people. It was awkward and a bit disappointing because of this."

The food was good but not stellar (the signature miso cod merely ok), the service largely indifferent (it took 10 minutes for a second glass of wine to appear; meals for my guest and me were not synchronized so each of us ate alone), the noise deafening ... and all this for an exorbitant price at an inconvenient time. Skip the hype and go elsewhere."

Food was not in the best asian I had.. sushi came already with the wasabi... service was terrible since our waiter was attending a lot of other people. Food is expensive... ambient is goood besides being dark.."

  • "We were warmly greeted at reception. We got great advise from a friendly server who made sure we have a wonderful first Nobu food experience 3 hours after we fly into NYC!. Had super cocktails, then tried the recommended cold dishes of sashimi and crevice taco followed by hot dishes of rock prawns in a spicy cream sauce, halibut cheeks, then squid and sushi tuna roll. All eaten family style with warm sake - every morsel with its own unique taste although my personal favourites were the yellowfin tuna sashimi with jalapeño and the squid "pasta". Only criticism is that the experience was slightly rushed and it was pity not to have more time to savour the tastes."

At his recommendation, we each ordered Bento Boxes which gave us a nice variety of their offerings. The sushi, in particular, was amazing - melted in our mouths. This place is not to be missed!"

  • "We were seated next to an annoying girl talking really loudly in a fake British accent. I asked if we can be seated somewhere else and we were moved. Thank God! This really saved the experience because I was about to ask her to quiet down. Overall, the food was great as always and our new waiter was excellent.   • "I have always loved the original nobu and since my office moved midtown, nobu 57. However this visit was different. The hostess on the top level as well as our waiter was more interested in letting us know that the kitchen was closing rather than the enjoyment of the entire nobu experience. Quite frankly the prices that nobu charges are astonomical although food is good but do we really need the attitude ?? At these prices i expect at least pleasant employees"

  • "After researching places to eat in New York, and seeing Nobu's reviews, I was excited to dine there. While the Sushi was okay (not the best I have eaten) the service was really unimpressive for a restaurant of this caliber. When ordering, our server answered the "What do you suggest?" question with "Everything is good" in a very rushed tone. After that, he never came by to ask us how the food was. Maybe they just assume their food is perfection. We actually had to flag him down just to get a refill on our drink. The only other time we saw him was when he gave us our check. Maybe he was having a bad night, but for only being in New York for 3 days, it was a real bummer of an experience."
