A word from Nobu Fifty Seven
Nobu Fifty Seven, the first uptown New York location for legendary chef Nobu Matsuhisa, opened to much anticipation in the summer of 2005. Nobu's co-owners are his longtime partners: renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent, Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, and Hollywood film producer Meir Teper. The restaurant showcases Nobu's signature new style Japanese cuisine with classic dishes such as Tiradito Nobu Style and Black Cod Miso, and the hibachi table. The restaurant received three stars from the New York Times.

Designed by David Rockwell, Nobu Fifty Seven evokes fluidity and the imagery of an Asian river with curves and details of abalone shell chandeliers, sliced bamboo stalks in terrazzo tiles, scorched ash tables and Japanese quilt fabric. Sake barrels imported from Japan tower over the first floor bar counter as diners make way to the upstairs dining room. Burnished woods, rich hues and soft lighting create an ambiance of elegance and refinement.

Diner Reviews
  • "Everything was just great, no waiting time for table, great service, very good food. I put only three stars for the ambience, cos it was freezing cold there. We had a table probably right near the conditioner. The Rest was just great:)"

  • "We had lunch last week on my son's 10th birthday. The food was amazing! The service great and really helpful, something that we really appreciated considering the long menu. My son had the chicken skewers he had in Vail's Matsuhisa earlier this year, even though they were not in the lunch menu. The place is beautifully decorated, modern and vibrant, a good atmosphere. The deserts are unbelievable. I can't wait to visited again!"

  • "I have hosted clients several times for lunch at Nobu 57. The food consistently delights all who attend. This is not an in and out quickie place for lunch. The service remains attentitve however when they are very busy, the food can take some time to be prepared. I would definitely suggest Nobu 57 and I hope to have the opportunity to go for dinner!"

  • "The food was amazing. By far the best sushi I have ever had. The waiter was nice but messed up our order. He even repeated it back to us correctly... Not sure what happened there. He was great at recommending things though. The food is pricey so be prepared for the bill. It's expensive, but worth it!"

  • "We planned a special day in the Big Apple, Jersey Boys, and dinner at Nobu 57, the play was all we were told it would and our experience at Nobu was very special, what a great date it was. Thank you"

  • "I am a long-time fan of Nobu Fifty Seven, but our waiter did not warn us that the sushi kitchen would be so backed up that it didn't make sense to order given our time constraints to leave, even as we seated relatively early for lunch at 11:45AM. He should have given us advance warning to place the sushi order early as opposed to telling me we should rather stay with the hot-kitchen side of the menu. We didn't have to leave that early either - around 1:30PM."

  • "Is a good restaurant but the time the food is not good for me."

  • "Maybe I was expecting too much but I didn't find it so worth going as people describe it to be. The overall ambience was pretty good but I find the washroom decorations very boring -- like a regular big chain store washroom and there was no thoughts put into decorating it. Food was great, but not awesome especially considering the price tag."

  • "The food is superb. World class. Amazing fish. The space is beautiful, the vibe is cool. I just wish our waiter, who seemed a little unsure of himself, had been a little more helpful. The menu is extensive, the size of various dishes is unclear, and a little guidance would have been useful in putting together our order."

  • "I heard wonderful things about Nobu and wanted to go. My husband wasn't so sure. Now he can't stop talking about how wonderful it was. We both loved the food and the service. Top-notch!"

  • "If you are looking for traditional sushi this may not be your place. Although, they do have a section of traditional rolls and sashimi, you'd be doing yourself a disservice by ordering them. This is more of a tapas style, you oder plates and they bring them to the table one at a time and you share. The portions are small and pricey but so delicious that it is worth the splurge! The flavors all blend perfectly in each dish. We loved every bite! Also a nice atmosphere and very pleasant service."

  • "Had bday dinner here with my wife on 06/24/14..and it couldn't have better...amazing service, food ambiance...worth it!!!! Our server (I don't want to mispronounce her name but I think she said her name was Pea,and I know I'm off and don't want to insult you at all) was amazing and she was so informative and knowledgeable of the menu and got my wife her now favorite drink, some kind of grapefruit juice based cocktail she can't stop raving about...so thank you for a great evening!!!!!"

  • "Had a great business lunch at Nobu57 recently. The food was wonderful but service was slow. We ordered many items to share and the amount of time between our finishing some items and the next being brought out was way too long. I actually thought we had finished the meal and was getting ready to pay when they brought the final round of sushi rolls to the table."

  • "Service - Impeccable Sushi & Sashimi - Amazing Miso soup and dinner salad - Very very good Waygu beef Tataki Style - Good but it's so much better without killing it with sauces Kumumato Oysters with three different sauces - Again, you crushed the natural taste of the oyster with the overpowering sauces Yellowtail with jalapeno- Same thing. Too much overpowering the fish. The yellowtail, oysters, soup and salad came out within 10 minutes, then we waited for about 20-25 minutes for the main and the Waygu. Excellent busing of the table as each course was completed. Beautiful interior, felt like you were inside of a Japanese fishing basket. It's pricey but decent. Not sure I would go back though, just not enough value for the price."

  • "The restaurant was beautiful but once seated we were underwhelmed by the noise and lack of any service. Sat in a loud 'party' corner where several men were permitted to holler and curse obnoxiously. One man literally fell on our table as he tried to re-seat himself after returning from somewhere. We sat for quite a while waiting for our drink order to be taken etc. etc. No need to say more since it got worse as the next half hour continued, still waiting. We left and enjoyed an outstanding Sea Bass and Sushi dinner at Rue 57. Such a dissappointment as this was recommended by a close friend of one of the owners."

  • "My first time at Nobu 57 and was not disappointed. The setting is lovely and the food was excellent. Portions are small but good for sharing."

  • "I've been to the original Nobu & assumed this would be of comparable quality. It was not. The food was soggy, the fish was middling... It wasn't horrible, it just wasn't good. Very disappointing."

  • "Great recommendations from waitstaff and and really liked the non-traditional items on the menu."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "While the service was very good, the fish was pedestrian. The sashimi and sushi I ordered were not even as good as whole foods! the presentation could not have been more plain or unimaginative."

  • "Saturday night we dined at Nobu celebrating my sisters birthday. The food was very good! Service was impeccable, we ordered everything our waiter suggested and enjoyed every last bite! The decor was very nice, we were unhappy being put in the far back by the window, we would have preferred being in the main dining room. But over the experience was good and we hope to see Nobu come to DC!"

  • "Very good everything especially the "bento box" chocolate dessert - outstanding, prob best I ever had!!!"

  • "Only one issue. We arrived about 15 minutes early and were asked to wait at the bar. 30 minutes went by and no one got us. We went back to the hostess and she acted as if we were supposed to go to her after 15 minutes. I have NEVER experienced that before. Otherwise, waitstaff and food and drinks were top notch."

  • "Everything you've heard about how great Nobu is was selling it short: it's phenominal! Stunning decor, very helpful staff and spectacular food a block from Central Park. We had the bento lunch boxes, a great way to sample their greatest hits. It was all delicious but the Miso Black Cod was one of the best things I've ever eaten."

  • "As always - whenever I am visiting New York this is a must eat at."

  • "Everything was perfect except the noise level. The space of the bar is much more attractive than the restaurant, eating your wonderful food must continue being a ceremony , needs a quiet ambience."

  • "Every bite was heaven! My girlfriend and I shared a fabulous meal of Lobster tempura w/ ponzu, rock shrimp tempura, tuna tacos, mushroom soup, black cod w/ miso, eggplant w/ miso. I would return tomorrow. The place is a buzz with activity. Staff was very pleasant and provided recommendations. Quality costs, but you'll remember the experience."

  • "The food is very good overall, ( if you are a good Ceviche Fan, their Cebiche NOBU style not even bother, you will be disappointed) service not too good, the waiter's attitude was careless and look annoyed. They could trained better their stuff to a more welcome environment."
    Dined on 5/29/2014
  • "The food we had here was some of the best we've ever had - the ceviche was great, the seafood was fresh, the sushi fantastic (we had the house rainbow roll), and my white chocolate dessert was amazing. The waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable about the food. Will definitely come back here next time we're in New York."

  • "Expected better quality and nices dishes. Tuna tartar with caviar for 34$ was tiny tiny tiny portion. Sushi is ok but had better. Sashimi was good taste but again very small portion for 22$. Steak teriyaki was very plain, you could have it at any japanese place. Desert was just average. Overall expensive experience for average quality. Prefer other restaurants"

  • "Nobu one of the best dining spots in NYC. Thats saying a lot considering the vast choices of great restaurants. Not just for its sushi but the amazing combinations they offer. I will say its a bit on the pricey side, but the food quality is in line with that. I've never had a bad meal there! One of the best deals is their bento box for lunch. The black cod miso is remarkable! "
