A word from Nobu Fifty Seven
Nobu Fifty Seven, the first uptown New York location for legendary chef Nobu Matsuhisa, opened to much anticipation in the summer of 2005. Nobu's co-owners are his longtime partners: renowned restaurateur Drew Nieporent, Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, and Hollywood film producer Meir Teper. The restaurant showcases Nobu's signature new style Japanese cuisine with classic dishes such as Tiradito Nobu Style and Black Cod Miso, and the hibachi table. The restaurant received three stars from the New York Times.

Designed by David Rockwell, Nobu Fifty Seven evokes fluidity and the imagery of an Asian river with curves and details of abalone shell chandeliers, sliced bamboo stalks in terrazzo tiles, scorched ash tables and Japanese quilt fabric. Sake barrels imported from Japan tower over the first floor bar counter as diners make way to the upstairs dining room. Burnished woods, rich hues and soft lighting create an ambiance of elegance and refinement.

Diner Reviews
  • "After researching places to eat in New York, and seeing Nobu's reviews, I was excited to dine there. While the Sushi was okay (not the best I have eaten) the service was really unimpressive for a restaurant of this caliber. When ordering, our server answered the "What do you suggest?" question with "Everything is good" in a very rushed tone. After that, he never came by to ask us how the food was. Maybe they just assume their food is perfection. We actually had to flag him down just to get a refill on our drink. The only other time we saw him was when he gave us our check. Maybe he was having a bad night, but for only being in New York for 3 days, it was a real bummer of an experience."

  • "Highly recommend for any occasion!!! Both the food and service are of the highest quality."

  • "Didn't bother bringing half our order (which actually was ok so we could leave sooner). Jenky booth with every movement felt by the folks behind us. Felt rushed because the kitchen was closing. Leave it for the tourists."

  • "Excellent food full of flavors, professional service, a flawless experience!"

  • "Nobu 57 was definitely top notch food and great service. The only thing that really kept it from being a 5 Star to me was that it felt as if they may have become a little complacent due to their solid reputation. Nothing that really put it over the top."

  • "Good was ok, presentation lovely, service efficient but not warm. Quality is high but otherwise nothing worth the hype. Meh"

  • "Just simply amazing. The tempura uni is to die for."

  • "4 stars for food: the signature Matsuhisha dishes were truly excellent, but the sushi rolls was nothing special. 4 stars for service: the friendly and helpful waiter suggested cocktails based on what's popular in Nobu and not on our personal taste. As a result we did not like the suggested one. Of course they took it back with no charge. 3 stars for ambience: the only reason for the moderate rate is the very intense smell of japanese food throughout the restaurant due to the open air Kitchen. Overall i have to admit that it was a great dining experience."

  • "We were a bit lost with the menu, our waitress suggested a few items, we took her advice and left all but one dish to her recommendation. We enjoyed everything she served us. One of my top 10 meals ever!"

  • "Nobu was excellent. Bento Box at $45 for lunch was pricey. However, there were two Bento Boxes - one for appetizers and another for the main course. A ton of food for the price and excellent.."

  • "great veg options for me and great omivore options for the group...amazing service"

  • "Enjoyed the bento box since it was our first time coming there and we had a nice sampling. The waiter suggested it. I was very disappointed that tea was not included and there was an extra charge. When you are paying 60.00 for lunch tea should be complimentary. I had mentioned it was a bday when I made the reservation and no mention was made by the wait staff."

  • "Best fish I have ever had. The sea bass with black bean sauce was like velvet and melted in your mouth. Loved the sashimi with the delicate slices of jalapeno and citrus tones. Lively lunch crowd made for a festive afternoon. Would go back."
    Dined on 7/29/2014
  • "As a vegan, Nobu has a great selection of options. The crowd is always fun and vibrant."
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "And the Food is also very nice! Full of people, nice service and a little bit expensive last time. But worth it."
    Dined on 7/21/2014
  • "Nobu has made it difficult for us to even think about eating Japanese food anywhere else . . . at least we don't live too far away. Will definitely be back."

  • "Geat food. Excelent service. Nice spot. Surely wood recommend"

  • " We enjoyed every item that we ordered at Nobu. The waiter was very helpful, and our table was ready immediately. They were very busy and our drinks took a little while, but our food came in waves as we ordered. Wonderful and fresh. Loved the hearts of palm salad with the jalapeño dressing and the hot shrimp tempura with the spicy sauce. A great experience overall."

  • "I must say Nobu 57 is definitely one of those places you just keep wanting to go back to, if your wallet permits of course; but pricing aside, this restaurant is a real treat. Great food, great space, romantic even and good service. As many other reviewers have mentioned, you have to try the miso cod, it is divine."

  • "Two of dined at Nobu 57 just recently and each enjoyed the $100 Chef's tasting menu. It was outstandingly fresh, delicious and beautiful. The service was impeccable."

  • "The flavours were spectacular. My wife who doesn't eat raw fish loved every bite. She has been spoiled."

  • "Excellent food service and ambiance are the earmarks of a great way to impress your clients and Nobu met the marks with an A grade."

  • "Second time at a nobu restaurant, very expensive And very large restaurant with out ambience, too much noise"

  • "My preferred way to start an evening at Nobu's is with a Grapefruit Martini--they are unique and delightful. The food is always so eccentric, fresh, zany and surpasses your expectation. I love the chef selection and the responsiveness of the service. thanks for another great night."
    Dined on 7/14/2014
  • "Food was great. Server really helped guide you with what to order. Sake was wonderful. Ordered many plates over time that your party can share. Amazing flavors. Allow time for the whole expereince."

  • "I guess with the reputation that Nobu has it would be sacrilegious to not give it a glowing review. But our saturday afternoon mid July visit was not take your breath away amazing. Empty tables all around and we were offered the most undesirable tables two times before we finally were seated at a nice spot. The food had the amazing delicate yet explosive sensory experience that makes Nobu the best, but in the Japanese tradition of "one eats with their eyes" the overall experience did not have the same taste as his other outposts in New York, Hong Kong and Vail. Maybe the fact that we were not made to feel welcome in the Nobu spirit left a lingering taste throughout the meal."

  • "Everything was just great, no waiting time for table, great service, very good food. I put only three stars for the ambience, cos it was freezing cold there. We had a table probably right near the conditioner. The Rest was just great:)"

  • "We had lunch last week on my son's 10th birthday. The food was amazing! The service great and really helpful, something that we really appreciated considering the long menu. My son had the chicken skewers he had in Vail's Matsuhisa earlier this year, even though they were not in the lunch menu. The place is beautifully decorated, modern and vibrant, a good atmosphere. The deserts are unbelievable. I can't wait to visited again!"

  • "I have hosted clients several times for lunch at Nobu 57. The food consistently delights all who attend. This is not an in and out quickie place for lunch. The service remains attentitve however when they are very busy, the food can take some time to be prepared. I would definitely suggest Nobu 57 and I hope to have the opportunity to go for dinner!"

  • "The food was amazing. By far the best sushi I have ever had. The waiter was nice but messed up our order. He even repeated it back to us correctly... Not sure what happened there. He was great at recommending things though. The food is pricey so be prepared for the bill. It's expensive, but worth it!"

  • "We planned a special day in the Big Apple, Jersey Boys, and dinner at Nobu 57, the play was all we were told it would and our experience at Nobu was very special, what a great date it was. Thank you"

  • "I am a long-time fan of Nobu Fifty Seven, but our waiter did not warn us that the sushi kitchen would be so backed up that it didn't make sense to order given our time constraints to leave, even as we seated relatively early for lunch at 11:45AM. He should have given us advance warning to place the sushi order early as opposed to telling me we should rather stay with the hot-kitchen side of the menu. We didn't have to leave that early either - around 1:30PM."

  • "Is a good restaurant but the time the food is not good for me."

  • "Maybe I was expecting too much but I didn't find it so worth going as people describe it to be. The overall ambience was pretty good but I find the washroom decorations very boring -- like a regular big chain store washroom and there was no thoughts put into decorating it. Food was great, but not awesome especially considering the price tag."

  • "The food is superb. World class. Amazing fish. The space is beautiful, the vibe is cool. I just wish our waiter, who seemed a little unsure of himself, had been a little more helpful. The menu is extensive, the size of various dishes is unclear, and a little guidance would have been useful in putting together our order."

  • "Had bday dinner here with my wife on 06/24/14..and it couldn't have better...amazing service, food ambiance...worth it!!!! Our server (I don't want to mispronounce her name but I think she said her name was Pea,and I know I'm off and don't want to insult you at all) was amazing and she was so informative and knowledgeable of the menu and got my wife her now favorite drink, some kind of grapefruit juice based cocktail she can't stop raving about...so thank you for a great evening!!!!!"

  • "Had a great business lunch at Nobu57 recently. The food was wonderful but service was slow. We ordered many items to share and the amount of time between our finishing some items and the next being brought out was way too long. I actually thought we had finished the meal and was getting ready to pay when they brought the final round of sushi rolls to the table."

  • "I heard wonderful things about Nobu and wanted to go. My husband wasn't so sure. Now he can't stop talking about how wonderful it was. We both loved the food and the service. Top-notch!"

  • "If you are looking for traditional sushi this may not be your place. Although, they do have a section of traditional rolls and sashimi, you'd be doing yourself a disservice by ordering them. This is more of a tapas style, you oder plates and they bring them to the table one at a time and you share. The portions are small and pricey but so delicious that it is worth the splurge! The flavors all blend perfectly in each dish. We loved every bite! Also a nice atmosphere and very pleasant service."
